Juliane Moore Starving Herself!

eve-march08-cover.jpg

Poor thing!

Julianne Moore has confessed to existing on a diet of granola bars.

In a frank interview with Eve magazine, the actress talks about the pressures to sustain an ‘acceptable’ figure in the film industry, plus her whacky diet.

She revealed: “I still battle with my deeply boring diet of, essentially, yogurt and breakfast cereal and granola bars. I hate dieting. I hate having to do it to be the 'right' size. I’m hungry all the time.”

Girl, that ain't no way to live!

“I think I’m a slender person, but the industry apparently doesn’t," she adds. "All actresses are hungry all the time, I think.

How sad.

Maybe that's why so many of them are so crazy!

well I don't feel sorry for her, she done it to herself, she doesn't have to listen to them, there is a healthy way to shape up, and its not the way shes trying, shes not even trying to help herself, and she needs time to get a better body if she wants to, and if her company that she works for cant give her the time she needs then maybe it would be best for her to quit and go somewhere else.

I have seen her jogging at the Central Park reservoir. She is a very beautiful woman. I guess the very strict diet and exercise, along with sometime unwanted papararazzi attention, is just part of the job description for a multi-million dollar a year job of an actor. They have choices after all.

I sympathize since she is almost required to be thin. But surely she has the means to join Jenny Craig or get expert dietary help. Average people can't really afford stuff like that. It's hard to stay a normal weight. I exercise an hour a day and would still have to eat like a sparrow to be under a Size 12. I watch more or less what I eat and I'm still overweight. Not fun.

  31. McDonald's says – reply to this
    31

It's the same way in the music industry for women. Once they start creeping up to 40 no one wants them anymore that's why it is so important for women to keep their options open and to go into different venues with their careers.

I'm glad to see one of them telling it like it is and admitting to this thing called the Hollywood Disease. You go girl, now get a burger! Geeze, I hate them skinny bitches showing up flat as a board after popping out a kid just a week earlier, all like "Oh I work out, we can ALL do it: it's just a combination of eating the right food and going to the gym" - Ehm, riiiiight. The right food being granola bars and lettuce I assume?

There is a BBC documentary about this on this Sunday. Three women tried popular diets the stars try and they documented how they went mentally crazy. Very, very sad. Also, it explains the need for coke and heroin for a lot of them. Just look at Amy Winehouse… before drug addiction she was even less attractive. Media has gotten the rest of us to the point where stars with drug addictions or eating disorders look better to most of us than those who don't! Sick. Oh, and Perez, you are included in that. You are overweight, but making fun of famous people's size and appearance ALL the time.

  37. Devore says – reply to this
    37

not eating is not normal/healthy or sane but the alternative is not working and actors want to work.

julienne moore is keeping it real, being thin doesnt come naturally for everyone.

i read jane fond's memoir a few years ago, she has issues with her weight for years, fonda suffered from bulemia and depression for years.

  38. THANK YOU JULIANNE says – reply to this
    38

I COMMENT her for honesty! It is about time someone said it like it is…I think of the line in Notting Hill, when Julia Roberts character says she's been on a diet since she began acting, so she's been hungry for ten years…I love honesty…about time.

  39. diana says – reply to this
    39

Well I think it's amazing of her to admit it because it's extremely obvious but yet most celeb's continue to say things like "oh i just ate a burger and fries" and "I eat so much all the time and dont work out"

BUT this is a semi eating disorder, it's called ednos (eating disorder not otherwise specified).. at least thats how i feel.

I've suffered from an eating disorder for almost 10 years and I feel so much for her. She probably doesnt give a shit about her weight but her job depends on it. This is a sad reality but not only for celebrities.

I'm glad she's speaking out about this. more celebs should. The "industry" has set an impossible standar that even THEY can't keep up with. It's so absurd. Won't don't they just say "enough is enough" and just be a normal weight? They're the ones setting the standard that not only they have to live by but we (the rest of the public) are encouraged to live up to. All those women in acting and modeling sould just tell the industry where to stuff it and not kill themselves or live miserably trying to stay like 15 or 20 pounds underweight. What is the industry going to do about it? Fire everyone? Yeah I'd like to see that.

Let's just throw her an f'n pity party!
If you're a talented actress, you'll always get movie roles. Just ask Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster, Kathy Bates or Queen Latifah.
Might not get the sexy love interest roles. It's all about priorities.
Stop living off your looks, cause very soon you'll be battling age discrimination. That is gonna be a bigger battle than weight discrimination…
but then there's always botox and surgery.

Good for her for being honest instead of all the other bullshit stories of proper diet and exercise - no one is 5'10" and 105 lbs with proper diet and nutrition. Let's call a spade a spade - Hollywood actresses are starving themselves thin and not fooling anyone!!!!

Sad what Hollywood standards are. Aren't they learning from all these models that are dying of heart failure because they need to be a size 0? Most people would not turn off a show or not see a movie if these women were slightly larger-Most doctors would say you were unhealthy if you were below the weight/height chart, it's sad that Hollywood doesn't consider you qualified for the job unless you are a size 0.

  53. writergirl says – reply to this

Yeah, if it's so sad maybe you'll stop calling anyone above a size 0 "fat," Perez. You are in a position to help change things, yet all you do is perpetuate the screwed up belief that you have to be skinny to be beautiful.

It is terrible that these stars make the money to go to all these wonderful places and restaurants and feel that they can't. That's not living in the slightest. I may not have the ideal body type (by far), but I enjoy eating and staying healthy (…with the occasional slip up).

Um I didn't think granola was actually that good of a food to eat when you are dieting?! But the thing is, if they just ate healthy food and exercised, they would look fine. I don't get it? Food is good, you just have to use moderation and be healthy. I would feel bad for these people if they weren't millionares. Isn't it ironic that people with the most money eat the least? What is wrong with our society?

Re: sara g – I've seen Thin (and read the book) and been to treatment (in LA) 3 times, and let me tell you, the girl who said she got by on 200 calories a day wasn't consistently eating 200 calories a day.

She was bulimic who abused laxatives - which doesn't rid yourself of most calories. Or she'd starve for a few days, and then binge, then starve etc.

You're totally right about the people looking "Hollywood normal" or normal. A lot of the girls there would have been on the cover of US or People "How I got my body back" etc. stupid diet stories.

Hollywood doesn't get their bodies from following the diets they're pimping in mags; they either exercise constantly, starve themselves, puke, do drugs, or a some neurotic combination of the above.

But…that's what they're getting paid to do.

  77. mpq says – reply to this

You're so right Perez, I bet at least half the reason they're so crazy is because they're starving yourself. All I've got is my own experience but, from what I know, poor diet = poor health, coupled with competitive environment/pressure leads to complete mental meltdown. But then it's a vicious cycle because when you're that low it's difficult to get healthy again. Hmm..

FINALLY SOME HONESTY!!! Nobody has a great figure like hers by "eating what ever they want" and "having a fast metabolism" like most actresses/singers say. When I used to look like that all I did was think about food! I applaud Julianne Moore for being HONEST! Figures like that are not natural & come at a cost, but the choice is for each one of us to make. Yes, I'm not a toothpick anymore; however, I'm not hungry 24/7 anymore either!

Julianne Moore is so much more beautiful with her curves than 95% of Hollyrexia.
Her diet could use a bit of tweaking, though - a good nutritionist, and voila - no hunger, more protein, more fibre, more nutrients, and more righteously slender and healthy as a offshoot bonus. Many people spend a lot more time doing the wrong things than it would take to put in a little time and a studied scientific approach into fueling their own bodies for maximum nutrition and energy. I admire Ms. Moore's work on screen.
