Edwards To Quit Presidential Race!

So sad.

John Edwards is dropping out of the running for his bid to be the next President of the United States of America.

The two-time presidential hopeful will make the announcement at 1 p.m. EST today at an event in New Orleans.

The Democratic race is now really just between Barack and Hillary. Edwards is not expected to immediately endorse one of the other candidates.

About time and I hope this is the last we hear of him. This guy drove doctors out of the carolinas with his lawsuits (which many were found after the fact to be based on incorrect data) and also drove up the cost of malpractice insurance so Doctors here have more problems trying to help people. He is just a ambulance chasing shyster. He was milking people's need for help in this country as a basis for his presidential campaign.

      61

I really liked Edwards, this is very disappointing. I CAN'T STAND BILLARY, so GO OBAMA!!

    62. Diego says – reply to this

      62

His wife was the reason he continued running for president — it was important to her that he stay in the race in spite (or maybe even because) of her illness. So people saying it was selfish of him to continue to run are just flat out wrong. She believed in his ability to change this country for the better and the urgency of the country needing that type of change NOW.

This is a sad day because it means that the media has succeeded in dictating to us who we should vote for. They gave Edwards a minimal amount of coverage even though it was agreed upon that he won every debate and brought the issues of healthcare and poverty to the forefront of the presidential campaign. I hope he does continue on in some public service capacity because we need true statesmen in politics. He would make a terrific Attorney General — a great leader of the Justice Department. Maybe we'll have some of the constitution restored if he serves in a role like AG.

of course he's not going to endorse one of them right away…..im sure he wants to be the vice president and doesnt want to piss one or the other off…..he's smart and that's why he should be the nominee

i love hillary and barack…..but conservative white america is going to be out in full force to vote against either one of them when election time comes….it's sad, but i dont know if this country will ever except a woman or a minority as the president

You know why this really, really sucks? John Edwards is the ONLY candidate, any party, that gives a flying flip about the poor in America. He wants to bring change to this SUPER RICH country we live in and not do it on the backs of the less fortunate. I don't care if he drops out, I'm writing him in, as I hate the other candidates for ignoring the plight of the poor.

No one will nominate him for VP. Everyone knows how crap he treated Kerry, and he isn't an asset to a campaign either.

The majority of his voters will go to Obama. Hillary is hardly anyone's second choice. Like someone said, Edwards gets the anti-hillary, white voters. And he'll most likely endorse Hillary.

It's not that sad though, if he truly believed in the anti-establishment, anti-corporation stuff he spouted, dropping out and supporting Obama would be the right thing to do, if he had no chance of winning.

I was originally a major Edwards supporter but quickly realized that wouldn't win the race. Our group's ideology and interest are slightly more in line with him over Obama's (thanks Perez for that website). Edwards's was 78% vs. Obama's 76%. We love you Edwards and hope to see you as the VP of Obama!!

Damn I was probably going to vote for him for the GA primaries, but since the media chooses the candidates for us (Clinton and Obama), I guess this isn't much of a surprise. The news media only cares about having history in the making by having a woman or a black man run for president, they don't seem to care who the right candidate is. I hope Edwards considers being a VP, preferably for Obama, he was my second choice, but I guess hes now my first.

So sorry to hear that he is dropping out. I would say probably to spend more time with his wife (who, frankly, hasnt been looking to well) since he wasnt faring well. Why waste monies? My vote goes to Hillary unless Obama is nominated then I hope Ron Paul runs independent.
As far as Obama goes…. his being black isnt the reason that I refuse to vote for him, it is because he was/is Muslim. He could have been/be any other religion, so it isnt a religious issue. We are fighting Muslims, what kind of stupidity would that be to bring one into office? I know this sounds like a conspiracy theory, but WHO is to say that Obama hasnt been being groomed by some radical group to get into the American govt and proceed to the White House? Far fetched…not to! How wonderful it appears on the surface. The first black president ( which would have been fine if not for the Muslim issue), wow a milestone. But everyone needs to stop and think. Just WHAT IF? What if he got into office and then when its too late….wham…. what sitting ducks we would be.
And *Sill*, black people DO get the same breaks as white…even better breaks. They just have to have the impotice to take advantage. Try getting a smart white kid (third in a class of 500+) a scholarship/ grants to a decent large university. If you arent black, Hispanic et al you are out of luck. Especially if you are middle income et al.
      So go Hillary.
God be with Ms Edwards and family.

I'm very sad about this. He seems to be the only one up there without an agenda…Hillary's being that she had this goal in mind for 35 years and she's not about to give it up even if she has to talk out of both sides of her mouth and constantly rely on pollsters to determine her stances; while Obama seems to have been bred to be President, I don't think he has enough experience to do it yet. Edwards, on the other hand, seems to genuinely have good intentions and seems to genuinely want to change the way things are today. I hope, if anything, he is offered the position of Vice President so he has a better chance of winning the Presidency in 8 years.

John, we love you, and know you are well qualified and would make a good presidency but unfortunately the electibility just wasn't there and most people don't want to waste their vote on someone who won't be elected (much like the wasted Nader votes in the last election which essentially gave the election to Bush).
