"her mom [Lynne] was too busy to come to her aid cause she was getting a manicure.

does that sound like a mother that truly cares?

It would stand to reason that if Brit's mother thought that she has signed a power of attorney giving Sam the right to make decisions for her, that it might not be a good idea for Brit to be committed. Especially since any and all decisions Brit has made regarding Sam have been made fairly recently and very arguably, while she was in a serious state of incompetence. Let her parents sort it out. They may rob her blind but ultimately they want her to live and be healthy. That would be the first step for her. This Sam guy is purely an opportunist as is Adnan I’m sure.

Stern did with Anna Nicole Smith, taking advantage of a mentally ill or drug addicted person for financial gain or fame. Perhaps Lynne was using reverse psychology to get her away from this stranger with a past of controlling people and restraining orders, as Brit went awol from her the last time she and kevin pushed her into rehab. If Lufti did manage to get her committed, it would perhaps leave him free disposal of some of her assets, and what if he had managed to put THAT paperwork into place? The manicure thing is probably a plant by Lufti or anyone wanting a piece of Brit's pie or a bit of revenge for being pushed out of the picture. Her birthparents love her the most. Perez, it might help your coverage of this issue if you understood a bit more about bipolar disorder. Here's a couple of main points:
- It's really normal for individuals with Bipolar to take their Lithium/Epilim etc. for a period of time, feel significantly better and then stop taking it because they simply can't believe that this disorder doesn't go away. Then they will either slip into a depressive episode, or a manic one - usually not sleeping for several days is what contributes to the psychosis in the end.
- Sometimes people don't like the side effects of their prescribed medication, saying it makes them feel like a zombie so they stop taking it.
- Self-medication is common as individuals with Bipolar struggle to find new ways to manage their illness.
I'm a psychologist and I've seen this sort of thing hundreds of times. It is quite clear that Britney has Bipolar disorder, and this latest incident is what I would describe as being a classic manic episode. The only difference is that most people with this disorder don't have to play this out in front of the press.
Please people, educate yourself about mental illness before you pass judgment on this situation. Regular manic episodes and hospitalization are a normal part of life for many individuals with Bipolar Disorder.

I think it may be true. By all accounts, Sam and Britney's lawyers were the ones to set up the intervention and subsequent committal, not her parents. Sam is the person to see her deteriorate every day. Not Britney's parents. And Sam sending text messages to Adnan saying that he's a manic trigger just says to me that Sam gets it and they don't. Look, Sam may be all the things they say he is, but if he's the one who ultimately gets her help, then I'm on his side. If anyone can look at Britney's parents and think they deserve an award, you are wrong. I blame them entirely for not raising her to be a responsible adult, sickness or no. That girl has been out of control for years and her parents didn't seem to care then.

That probably n't true. However you need to understand that when you are dealing with this sort of mental illness there is only so much you can do as a parent when the person is an adult. Unless a judge decides that she is mentally not able to make decisions for herself she will continue to repeat the same behavior until she regularly takes her meds.

Your post wasn't very encouraging…especially the part about "regular manic episodes and hospitalizations." My sister-in-law is bipolar and everyone in the family has been dealing it for years. Her brother (my husband) has gotten to the point where he won't pick up the phone when she calls because it's ALWAYS some kind of major catastrophe. She was pretty abusive with him (she's older) when they were growing up; way beyond normal sibling rivalry.
She's 44 years old and in the middle of a third nasty divorce. She spends money like Donald Trump, and her aging parents are constantly having to bail her out of bad situations. Matters are complicated because she is a born-again Christian, and refuses to see non-Christian therapists; her Christian therapists tend to validate her behavior against non-religious family members, including her parents.
What worries me is what will happen when her parents are gone. Because her behavior is so damaging and hurtful to those around her, people tend to write her off. Any advice?
