Boycotting Avril

There's some ill will against Avril Lavigne these days, and it's not coming from our direction.
Dancers in the Hollywood community are circulating an email amongst themselves, urging each other to boycott auditions for the singer and "songwriter"'s upcoming tour.
Why?
Because Avril is paying below industry standards!
Shady. Shady. Shady.
This is the email making the rounds:
"There will be an Avril Lavigne audition happening on Tuesday, February 5th that we are very concerned about. The tour's weekly rate is $1,250.00 inclusive of agency fee…after agency commission that would be $1,125.00 to you before taxes. Management has offered no additional perdiem and no plus agency fee, which is standard in our industry. We have expressed our concerns to Avril's management but they have decided to move forward regardless.
Our recommendation is that our clients and all dancers in the city spread the word to friends, fellow dancers, dance schools, etc. emphasizing how inappropriate these rates are. Hopefully your actions can send a message to management that the rates are unacceptable for an artist of this calibre and that they cannot hire professional dancers for these fees."
Update:
Lavinge's publicist tells us, "We have been told that the rates for the dancers are within the industry standard.
Avril prides herself in treating everyone on the tour with the utmost respect & consideration and pays them well within the industry standard."
Update #2:
A dance industry insider is denying Avril's claims.
They tell us, "There is an affiliation called Dancer's Alliance which is an organization of dancer's who promote the standardization of rates and working conditions for dancers. These standards are then promoted and fought for by the respective dance talent agencies. Although there are not Dancer's Alliance minimums for tours, here is a breakdown of the MINIMUMS for dancer's dancing with an artist for any given show. Tour weekly rates are negotiated based on several factors but this clearly outlines how low their rates are.
Rehearsals:
$175 + agency fees / 4 hours
$250 + agency fees / 8 hours
Shows:
$500 + agency fees / show
Travel:
$150 + agency fees / travel day
Per Diem:
$35 / day domestic
Keep in mind these are minimum rates that pretty much all major artists support. Avril's tour will average approximately 4 shows a week. At the current proposed rate that would be about $281/show after the 10% agency fees. The fact that her publicist is stating they are within industry standards is highly uninformed."

It makes me sick how "important" this "industry" is. Their "minimum" is more than most nurses make, although I'm sure that they too save lives on a daily basis & have to fork out the extra dough to carry liability & malpractice insurance. I think the boycott should be with how much singers & "stars" make. BOYCOTT THAT.

Why are you guys such haters? I have a lot of dancer friends and though I have never danced professionally, training as a dancer takes a lot of work and is very expensive. The physical demands and the mentality that is necessary to survive in such a cut throat industry is more than I can say for those of you that are probably at work surfing the net, not to mention it is physically and emotionally draining. Dancers deserve to be paid a fair wage, which means getting a salary that is competitive with industry standards. Besides that, most dancers make non-singing ass singers like Avril and other pop stars look good, therefore they can thank their back up dancers for their careers. Why don't you all just shut the fuck up because you wouldn't want someone trying to pay you below what you're worth! Sounds like some of you are bitter because you have a job you hate!
To the argument that its "not like they are working 52 weeks a year so its really not that much." Guess what…then get a freaken real FULLTIME job!! IF you only work parttime you have no right to complain about being broke cuz youre just lazy. Get a second job to supplement your dancer income and shut the heck up. The commoner has to work 40+ hours a week ALL YEAR b/c they need to eat and put a roof over their head. When these dancers do work, they make more in a week than most people make in a month. Seriously now. And if you look, Avril pays them the industry standard anyways. People who are NO BODIES in the entertainment business always have to cry about something.
I'm a college educated computer engineer and don't make that much in a week. Get a real job and see how much you make!!

You DO realise that often dancers and such may get paid like $200 for 1 day but they might go months without a job???
They have to go and be waitresses and everything inbetween the random jobs, but they put up with it because that's what they love to do and that's how it is.
There's so much competition and when they get the job it's very demanding.
If you are a nurse and don't like it , quit complaining, quit being a nurse, go and take dancing lessons for 5 years, go to NY/LA and stay in a tiny crowded apartment where you go to dozens upon dozens of auditions and barely ever get a break then we'll see if you accept/can live on $5 an hour as a dancer and less as a waitress the rest of the time.

as a professional dancer, you should know that this rate is actually very bad. In order to book a major tour for a major artist you have to be one on the top dancers in the biz, like anyone else at the top of their game they deserve to make the most money, top doctors, top lawyers make hundreds of thousands of dollars doing their jobs, artists make the same. For instance someone like CHER who fucking knows what amazing dancers are worth, is paying her dancers 2200/week. thanks.
