Stand Back, Bitches!

With the paparazzi insanity growing out of hand with every passing day….

Los Angeles Councilman Dennis P. Zine has proposed an ordinance to protect celebrities' personal space.

"This is about common decency," Zine said following an LA City Council meeting. "We don't want to put the media out of business, but there has to be some reason when they do their job."

According to his plan, celebrities will be entitled to "Personal Safety Zones" which the paparazzi cannot invade. In theory, this would require the space between a celeb and a paparazzo to be wide enough to drive a car through.

The ordinance is set to protect not only celebs, but the photogs and innocent bystanders as well.

"It has gotten outrageous," Zine said of the intense media coverage of celebrities. "If we don't do anything, we could see someone seriously injured or killed."

What will Britney think of this when (if) she's finally released????

Who will pump her gas for her, who will buy her coffee, shout her compliments through the window, and accompany her on her 2am shopping trips in Rite Aide?????

Maybe the ordinance won't apply to Britney.

We're pretty sure the Paps are her only friends. They're not Paparrazos to her! They're future boyfriends!!!

They should totally do that. Let the paps spend money on bigger zoom lenses and less on cocaine, hair grease and english lessons. Enough already.

Perez, I have fun reading your blog and your comments sometimes, they're usually quite harmless but I don't think it's cool to "keep hitting someone who's on the ground" like Britney. More respect pls!

Shut up. You're such a jerk. When they bringing you in to the psyche ward and gonna rebuild you as a functional member of society?

I think it's a good thing, people really do need their space. I think it's ridiculous that the paparazzi can sue the celebs when the celebs decide to take a stand and lash back. I feel if you are within two feet of my personal space and lunging at me with a camera… your camera deserves to be thrown to the ground.

These people have lenses that can capture the lint on a fly's ass from a hundred yards away - they have absolutely no reason to get so close - they simply try to provoke a reaction out of people to get a chance at taking pictures of somebody acting out of character. VULTURES AND PARASITES!!

I wonder how many times Tom Cruise has called UCLA to beg Britney not to take any psychotropic drugs…I am sure he thinks Scientology can cure all that ails her. God forbid…

It's about time. Aspen passed out 194 tickets over the holidays for this very problem. It's impossible to avoid these human road blocks sometimes.

Re: Michael – How does this restrict the press, they can still report on the celebrity, take pictures, they just can't be close enough to stick a camera up their dress or get their feet run over or obstruct the view of someone tgrying to exit a parking spot into oncoming traffic.

how are they going to measure the distance,

      it wont work.

once one gets a bit close another one will get closer and there will be elbows and fists.

      i say

      deport the lot of them.
      check their papers
      i bet they are ilegals…..

Well, by PEREZ bringing up BRITNEY in this story only to BASH her at the end PROVES the insanity surrounding the mentality of the Media in general!

CELEBS are people too and DESERVE to be safe when they walk the streets in their own neighbourhoods to do normal mundane chores we all do, - including pumping gas, buying cigarettes, etc … come on Perez!

      113

I think this is a very good idea, especially when the celebs children are involved or they are going thru some sort of personal crisis. There are just times when the paps need to be respectful and understand that they really are just people trying to live their lives as normal as possible. I dont see how just as a human being they cant understand that. I mean, youre taught about personal space at a very young age. Were these people raised by apes?

      119

Enough with the britney comments, save your hate-spouting for someone who deserves it. Joran Vandersloot, Scott Peterson, OJ Simpson and many others who actually did something horrible and deserve your ire! You are so busy trash talking people who are silly but benign, it makes me question where your morals are at. Oh, wait a minute, this is Perez Hilton, I know where your morals are at. I have been disgusted by this blog a couple times too many, and it's not fun enough to make up for how ashamed I am for perpetuating it. So 'bye.

      126

We should have done this right after Princess Diana's death. Do we need for somebody else to have a terrible accident before we take action. Many of the celebrities are just as drunk as Diana's driver was that night - it could happen to them too.

    27. Never Gonna Happen says – reply to this

      127

I don't see what good this would do. A "personal safety zone" around a celebrity only protects the celebrity. I don't see how it would protect innocent bystanders. If anything, it would probably make the problem worse with paps being too busy trying to get their shots and trying to focus their zoom lenses. Keep their asses around the people who actually want that kind of fucked up attention.

By the way, mentally ill or not, Britney's only career now is being followed around by paps. She asks for this attention. Plenty of celebrities, bigger stars than her, manage to keep a low profile and act with class and dignity before the cameras! So I don't feel sorry for her in this respect.

      133

It's about time. What about chasing in cars? LAPD should have a celeb department and follow celebs and ticket every single photog who breaks the law and also they should cite the star for reckless driving if that is the case. I love to see celeb news but I can live without the car chases and so what if I miss a story no one will die.

Finally! Someone does something about the papparazzi cluster fucks. Its been too long that they've been the ones causing a scene when they follow someone famous. I was pissed when I saw the papps being agressive around Jennifer Garner and her little girl. What the fuck is wrong with these people? How would they feel if some freak was in their child's face with a camera? I still think they should be allowed to take pictures but minus the chaos.

PEREZ - lay off of Brit. How can you continue to make fun of someone who is so seriously sick.

      141

i used to think that perez's comments on Britney were just silly jokes and semi-funny at times. now I just wonder what's wrong with him that this poor girl's so mentally disturbed that there has been a conservatorship put on her. That is actually an extremely difficult thing to do typically. It's not funny anymore.

What a surprise! If the ordinary citizen followed celebs like Britney as much as the paps, we would be charged with stalking and most likely incarcerated. Why are the paps immune to the stalking charges?

    49. Mel says – reply to this

      149

It's about time!! They also need to make sure they include something about chasing celebrities in cars. Someone is going to get hurt… whether it's a celebrity or an innocent bystander.
