We Need To Know

academy_award_poster__opt11__opt.jpg

The Oscars are putting pressure on the Writers Guild to give them an answer.

Are they going to boycott the show or not?

"We're running out of time," says the president of the Academy.

The talks between the writers and the big media moguls appear to be reaching a resolution, but the Oscars are right around the corner!

"I'm reaching out in a measured way," says the Academy Prez. "We're feeling great that (WGA-AMPTP) negotiations seem to have reached the stage where they're concluding. I'm a filmmaker and I want everybody back working."

So far, no words from the WGA.

It'd be a shame if the Oscars were cancelled.

Once Obama becomes president, I think you'll see Perez Hilton's site fall into the dust. The evil that feeds off others' misery, his love of terror in the smallness of real people's lives is something this country will do without once someone with clarity takes all of our human-ness to a higher level. RIGHT NOW…. I am proposing all Barack Obama fans to remove the Perez Hilton bookmark from their browsers and clear their cache. Time to move on now, not later. DO IT NOW… I am MAKE A STAND!

perez shut up .you want everything cancelled .what about the grammys.are they going to cancell that to.because of the writers strike

  46. retired says – reply to this

    46

It is important that the Writers Guild continue to stand strong and hold out for the issues they have been striking for. In the grand scheme of life, the Oscar show is not that important. Oscars can be awarded and televised in a new program format. Frankly, in recent years, the Oscars have seem over-produced to me and the MC's not good.

I am pro-union but this strike is bordering on the absurd. If this strike wasn't tied to entertainment industry would it have lasted as long as it has ? I don't think so.

It feels as if the Writer's Guild is being spiteful at this point.

The WGA clearly has contempt for the Academy but they shouldn't forget that the Oscar show is seen around the world by over one billion people. I cannot think of another platform that is able to promote the product of their members the way the Oscar telecast does.

Sign the fucking contract and get back to work.

    BUNCH OF BASTARDS

  62. HA HA HA says – reply to this

    62

IT'S FUNNY THAT EVERYONE THINK THAT IT NEEDS TO BE SORT OUT IN TIME FOR THE OSCARS
BECAUSE THE OSCARS ARE SOOOO IMPORTANT
I MEAN….. STARS TURN UP WEARING EXPENSIVE DRESSES!!!
    RICH PEOPLE GET ATTENTION!!
    - - IT'S NOT AS IF EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING ELSE AFFECTED BY THIS STRIKE IS IMPORTANT RIGHT?
    PEOPLE LOOSING THEIR JOBS,
    PEOPLE GOING WITHOUT
    BECAUSE OF THE WRITERS GREED
BUT *GOD FORBID* SOMETHING AS IMPORTANT AS THE *OSCARS*
    GET CANCELLED.
IT'S ALL A SELF INDULGENT BUNCH OF CRAP
    IT'S ONLY A CEREMONY
THEY WILL STILL GET THEIR AWARDS, THEY JUST WON'T GET AS MUCH ATTENTION
WELL AWARDS FOR FILM AND ACTING ETC ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT…
YEAH YOU GUESSED IT, THE TALENT AND HARD WORK
NOT THE DRESSES. NOT SHOWING OFF.
    - - AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE OSCARS CAN STILL GO ON. THE *WILL* GO ON.
THE ONLY THING THAT WON'T GO ON IS A *TV SHOW* AND THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE THE WHOLE POINT OF THE STRIKE
WHY SHOULD THE OSCARS BE ANY DIFFERENT ??!!!

    63

Oscars are meaningless and have nothing to do with film profits or the film industry. The AA are a way of controlling people into thinking they are important when they are not. They are completely irrelevant.

those who speak so negatively on the subject here but watch ESPN all the time.. let them cancel the superbowl and see how they react…… fuck that football shit…. bring on the gown and the awards….. and the men in tuxedos with tight asses in tight pants…

  66. patricia says – reply to this

    66

Show me the money. If the Oscars don't go on, the industry will lose huge dollars which the writers are hoping to get their hands on. My guess is there will be a settlement to save the sinking ship for both sides. This year's Oscar night will be a ratings loser anyway — no one went to a majority of the films nominated. Its all about unions baby — you noticed the SAG awards went on without a hitch.

i wouldn't miss the oscars if they weren't aired. i once worked for someone who was an academy member and i could see how easy it was for industry people to vote for their friends. in other words, this awards show is pretty phony since it's a bit like a popularity contest. i like the glamor of the show, but it has lost its prestige in my eyes.

if anything, though, the oscars would be helpful for the los angeles economy.
