We still can't believe Amy Winehouse lost Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards to Herbie Fucking Hancock.
What a joke!
Our Wino was robbed, damnit. But, she was the night's big winner.
Amy was the talk of Los Angeles at all the Grammy after-parties.
We had a lot of fun at the Warner Bros partee downtown and a good time as well at the Entertainment Weekly / Island Def Jam soiree in West Hollywood.
Along the way, we ran into some of our favorite ladies.

Everyone keeps saying Herbie won because he is a legend. While he is a legend, this is not the ONLY reason he won. Amy Winehouse is great, and yes, there has been a lot of talk about her album. But this is not the Billboard Awards, it is not based on number of albums sold. It is based on the quality of the album. Again, Amy's is a great, quality album, better than much of hat was released this year. But please do not dismiss Herbie Hancock just because he didn't generate the pop culture madness that Amy did. I daresay Perez and most of those who have posted "Fuck Herbie" like comments have not even HEARD his album. Please don't be so ignorant.

I love Wino and her performace was SO fierce, maybe my favorite. BUT it was nice to see Herbie get the Grammy. He's a truly gifted artist, and he was so shocked and flustered by his win, it was kind of comical. His record is a valentine to another musical genius, Joni Mitchell.

Forgot to say something in my previous post: Amy Winehouse's performance was good. The best I've seen from her… cause she wasn't messed up. But unlike some of the others on her, I don't think her winning a Grammy or not should be based on her personal behavior. What I DO want to say is, as good as hers was, Herbie Hancock playing Rhapsody in Blue gave me goose bumps. It was absolutely amazing. You can't have watched that and then said "Herbie Fucking Hancock" and still really think you are a genuine MUSIC fan.

I felt the same way about the Hancock's performance of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue." What a true American classic, beautifully performed. The juxtaposition in styles between the classical and jazz pianists made it even more enjoyable. A delightful and unexpected treat!
