Where Did Everyone Go?

awennherbiegrammy__opt.jpg

According to preliminary reports, last night's Grammy Awards telecast was the third least-watched ever in its history.

Last year 20 million people tuned in.

This year, only 17.5 million made the effort.

And the Recording Academy spent so much money to promote the cause since this year was its 50th Anniversary!

But, on the bright side, the Grammys did win the night…it beat out American Gladiators and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

They'll have to bring back Justin Timberlake next year!

Watching an award show where they give out statues for crappy music? No thanks. It doesn't help that the RIAA keeps suing people for copyright violations. Screw the music industry.
What did we miss? Another Britney Spears performance? Another child singer made out to look like a 25 year old hooker? A fat, ugly Perez?

penning in the words "where did everyone go?" above herbie hancock's pic is a not so subtle swipe at this man, this legend, who you think didn't deserve to win album of the year over crackhead wino! i'm guessing you don't read your reader's emails…cause you got your ass reamed over dissing him in another posting. you are such an ignorant prick. you know those "gang bangers" that are supposedly getting involved with the packs of wild dogs, er, paps to photograph britney?…may they come after you…you deserve the publicity…at your funeral…prick!

  28. TIRED OF IT ALL says – reply to this

    28

There was too much drama associated with this years Grammy's. What killed it for me was to know that Kanye was going to be there and if he didn't win anything we might have been in for another "performance". Also Wino and all of her shizz, not to mention Alicia "dead eyes" Keys. I can't stand her! So I decided not to watch. I came across channel 2 while channel surfing and of course I tuned right in to Kanye and that fluorescent crap. I couldn't take it.

    50

No one watched what a surprise, NOT!!! We are so tired of the lame ass music industry, half of the performances were (YAWN) boring. I am not surprised that you PEREZ were the only one watching on the edge of your seat. lol Please don't bring Justin Timberlake back he is awful too.

  51. A says – reply to this

    51

Where WAS Justin Timberlake? I was surprised to see that he wasn't even there. He did win a few Grammy's, though I'm sure that not unexpected.

Actually, this year's Grammy's was one of my favorites because there were a lot more performances (though most weren't as amazing as previous years) and less talking. That was one of the best effects of the writer's strike. ;-)

  52. It was good says – reply to this

    58

With all due respect to Tina, Aretha, Stevie, and everyone else, it was boring because it was nothing but old geezers singing songs from 20 years ago! If they want people to watch, they need to have current performers.
PS Tina looked good for her age, but sooo plastic!! :-D

That was the greatest awards show I have ever seen in my life. I loved all the performances—they really made it about the music and talent: THE WAY IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE. The only way it could've been better would've been if Billy Joel, Prince and Elton John performed. Or Mariah. Or Whitney.

  64. Yiimian says – reply to this

    64

Maybe because they're (award shows) redundant, boring, slow? People are sick of the same old. Its the same old people getting nominated for the same old awards. Its just boring.

Did it ever dawn on you that people actually prefer to see TALENTED musicians perform at the Grammies? Ol' Justin is just another ersatz, talentless bimbo - like Rhianna and Beyonce (who got SCHOOLED in how to perform on stage by Tine - Beyonce was lost up there beside her) - his performnace wold be lip-synched and predictable - just like him.

I would have liked to have seen Herbie play - the guy is a LEGEND in the business in the way that that whore Timbaland will never, ever know.

  68. CJ says – reply to this

  69. Geronimo says – reply to this

    69

Why don't the Grammy people let the artist sing there own songs? And the time it took them to announce the contest winner they could have gave out THREE AWARDS!!! It was more boring than the VMAs!!!

  70. mia says – reply to this

    70

I haven't been able to stand the grammys for years due to the excessive amount of rap, which is not be music. I was impressed to see Kanye actually sing a song. This show had many real musicians, and many legends like Tina Turner, Andy Williams, and Carole King. I wish Joni Mitchell had presented, since the album dedicated to her work won for Herbie Hancock. I would hope in future that there are more world music performances, and more classical artists given face time. They are the real artists, the ones who have worked hard to perfect their talent. I am waayyy sick of overproduced celebrity bimbos and their male equivalents.

  71. liz says – reply to this

I have to tell you Perez-nation I thought last nights Grammy Awards were the best I'd ever seen. They absolutely killed the VMA's with those performances last night. The whole show turned into the musical kaliedascope with performance after performance. The only time I changed the channel was when that Brad Paisley guy started singing about ticks…Forgive me country fans, but I don't get that shit!

Tina, Beyonce, Alicia, Carrie, Foos, Herbie and Ling Ling….I mean the list goes on and on. IF you love music…not just pop, then last nights show was the best this century!

  87. Good grief says – reply to this

    87

It doesn't surprise me that it sucked, I figured if a crackhead is the top nominee than surely this isn't worth watching.

For what it's worth Kanye maybe a little immature for his age but at least he shows up sober and as far as I can tell hasn't been caught smoking crack or with coke smeared all over his face or without his underwear on.

It is high time these awards start going to people who work their asses off and who do the right thing instead of rewarding the nasty behavior.

Natalie Cole was right and I think some others in the industry should get behind her in agreement. O.K. off my soapbox now..thanks for listening:)

    89

it's a tough show, always has been–there is no possible way to please everyone, the show runs long as it is, and there are always so many high profile charting artists absent. so many genres of music represented…fine line between showcasing the newer on the charts now and icons and living legends…and most people have no appreciation for "real" music which accounts for a lot of "boring" comments….as for publicity–i saw very little and wasn't even aware it was the 50th anniversary

    93

    Perez,
Amy Winehouse is talented Perez - but right now she is one trick pony. She is doing an old school style in today's terms. Not original. To disparage Herbie is despicable. Herbie is a humanitarian first. He cares about people and along with Tina Turner is an active Buddhist. By calling him a name like that you have created a bad cause. Amy personal life is more intersting than her musical life. She is going thru an unfortunate time right now - I hope she recovers and helps people with her music for a long and with class as Herbie has done. Herbie was with Mile Davis in the 60's in the greatest jazz band of the era. In the 70's, his band the Headhunters had the highest selling Jazz record in history despite purists being mad at him for "going electric". In the 80's his tune, Rockit considered one of the first cross over records to include Rap
On and On… Its all about the life condition P. Remember when you were depressed prior to your website? No need to degrade for profit my man. Cause and effect………………….
