In a first, Fox is partnering with iTunes to offer viewers the opportunity to download performances - audio and video - of all the contestants the day after the shows air.

AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY ON THE iTUNES STORE
Music and Video Performances Available the Next Day
Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox Interactive Media, 19 Entertainment, FremantleMedia North America and Apple, for the first time, have partnered to bring music fans all of the contestant performances from Season Seven of television’s most popular show exclusively on the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com). Kicking off with the AMERICAN IDOL Top 24 semifinalists this week, customers can purchase music performances for 99 cents per song, and viewers will be able to purchase the full video of Top 12 finalist performances for $1.99, starting March 12. In addition, beginning today, fans can pre-order performances of their favorite contestants from the iTunes Store, which will be downloaded automatically the day after the show airs.
“We have some truly outstanding talent this year, and by working with Apple and iTunes, we’re giving viewers another great way to enjoy America’s brightest new stars from IDOL,” said Simon Fuller, creator of AMERICAN IDOL and Founder of 19 Entertainment. “I’m sure there will be many memorable performances that viewers will want to relive from this 2008 season.”
“We’ve created a special section on the iTunes Store for IDOL fans with an incredible array of music and video performances from television’s most popular show,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes. “We think AMERICAN IDOL viewers are going to love the ability to purchase and download IDOL performances from iTunes.”
iTunes will also provide exclusive direct links from the free streaming performance videos on americanidol.com (www.americanidol.com), the official website of the show and home to MyIdol, the Internet’s largest AMERICAN IDOL fan site. Fans will be able to simply click through to iTunes if they want to purchase their favorite performances to own and enjoy on their iPod, iPhone or AppleTV.

I can't watch all the audition shit anymore b/c AI has chosen to highlite those who have zero talent…its not funny anymore. It seems as if the whole premise of the auditions is not about talent anymore but who can make the biggest ass of themselves. Enough already!

I think this show is played out, seven seasons are enough already. I don't like it anymore simple because it's stale and the format is boring and just how many mentally ill people with zero talent, can you watch before getting sick and throwing up on yourself. There are a whole bunch in the top 24 that have record deals.
Carly Smithson is formerly known as Carly Hennessy. She had a record deal, her label spent 2.2 million dollars promoting her ablum and she only sold 300 copies. And Kristy Lee Cook already has a song (on iTunes!) and a video! I used to be a fan of AI because it gave the undiscovered a chance to get their big break. What's the point when they're letting in people who had their chance and then sucked? It makes me angry!

Nothing new. They did downloads last year and people criticized them because they didn't release a CD….go figure. They're damned if they do damned if they don't. But it's a good move, because it speeds up the popularity of the artist. and it makes money for the show. If you don't like the show don't watch.

This isn't a first you fat dork. All of last year's performances are currently available on iTunes. Last year americanidol.com was selling them exclusively until they announced the winner, then they were available on iTunes.
Randy Jackson produced the recorded that was released by the girl named Cassie. This show is so FAKE and I won't be watching it anymore. There are quite a few people on there this year that have extensive professional experience.

American Idol has not been good since season 2.
They were sold on iTunes at the end of the season last year.
Idol remains the #1 show week in and week out. I would not count this competition out just yet. What is going to overtake it? Project Runway? Desperate Housewives? Come on now.

Listen, Perez, this has got to stop. It's fine if you support Hillary, but to repeatedly put up postings that bash Obama is another thing altogether. Remember that we're all members of the Democratic party, and that regardless of who eventually wins the nomination, we need to put differences aside and rally behind that candidate. What you're doing is achieving nothing except helping to further divide us Democrats. And you know who that will ultimately benefit? The Republican nominee, of course.
Both Obama and Hillary would make excellent presidents. But in your efforts to get one nominated, please don't cut down the other. The only people you're ultimately hurting are your fellow Democrats.
They have more talent this season than they do any other season. I am looking forward to seeing the openly gay contestant this season. He looks half asian. He's incredible. Tomorrow the entire season starts. It's hard to believe it's the 19th tomorrow. Time flies by so fast.
I love the rocker. Amanda Overmyer. She's a true American Idol. Love that girl. She can whale. Season 7 is the best season yet, hands down. I cannot wait for tomorrow.

The openly gay contestant is good. Dan Noriega or something like that. He's talented. I really love that Dan or Dave Cook. The guy with dread locks is good too. I forget his name. That David guy everyone loves. I cannot think of his lastname. The one that had a paralyzed vocal cord and is only 16. For the girls, I love Carly Smithson. She's true talent.
I cannot wait to see the show. The talent is so amazing this year in comparison to the past seasons. I am looking forward to everyone. It's going to be a great show this season.
This show will continue to be the number one show in America. The only way that will stop is if Simon Fuller cancels it. The money this show has made, that won't happen anytime soon. Simon Cowell is one of the richest people in America because of this show, as are many other people. This show has made people famous (Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Daughtry, Clay Aiken) and will continue doing so. It's instant fame, but it's addicting to watch and so fun to vote. I can't wait to watch tomorrow.
Without this show, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood would have never existed. They needed this show to succeed because lets face it, they would have never been marketable, let alone talented enough to succeed without it. American Idol creates superstars.
There would be no Gayken *cough* I mean Clay Aiken without American Idol.

On the French version of Idol, called Star Academy, you can download some performances, but those are incredible and worth hearing.

After you pay your money, you find out the stupid downloads are in this sucky mpeg4 files and they won't convert to mp3. aholes!..i would download a song, but NOT FROM ITUNES!
So, 11% of the people polled say yes or maybe….if 11% of viewers pay for downloads and there are approx. 20 million viewers a week that's 2.2 million downloads a week (assuming people don't download more then 1 song)….I think that was a very smart business decision!!! DO THE MATH PEOPLE…
Who wants to download (and pay money for) shortened versions of songs sung by unfamous people? I watch Idol, but now only to see people I don't like get voted off. I agree it's getting tiresome. I hope that Irish girl is voted off first! Can't wait to see her go. Especially when she already tried and failed. And that openly gay kid is annoying. These people need to realize that, as evidenced by Idol failures, this show is nothing but 15 minutes of fame. I agree with other posters about being angry that the show is secretly stocked with people who have already not made it. Not the Cinderella story I thought Idol was.
