Delta Burke, best known for her role in Designing Women - way back in the day, is at it again.
The actress is talking to the media about recently checking in to a psychiatric hospital and how she got there. According to Burke, she was so depressed at times, that she would be unable to get out of bed for two weeks.
Burke claims she has had a lifelong battle with depression, at times taking up to five different medications to help her treatment.
That seems like an awful lot!
According to a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Burke went to a clinic to "get my meds straightened out and to get properly diagnosed." And she has. Docs have since scaled back her intake.
Burke was also reported to be receiving treatment for hoarding, to which she admits she does and an addiction to the QVC Shopping Network and online auction sites.
We don't blame her. Who doesn't love the creepy ladies on QVC and HSN?
Delta is also opening up about one night when she had gotten so upset about an article that a tabloid had written about her, she drove up to the top of the hill, with a bottle of Xanax, and a gun next to her. Blurke recalls, "I just kept taking Xanax and hoping the pain would stop. I got really sleepy and decided to go for a ride. I needed a Diet Coke really bad. I called up [husband Gerald McRaney]. I didn't know where I was but he found me."
You heard it people, when depressed, just go for that Diet Coke. You'll get that tingly, happy feeling inside. It's better than the gun!

however you feel about the actress, making fun of someone with depression is not something to joke about. neither is sarcasm to do with taking meds ('that seems alot' blame the doctors, not the patient who needs the help). childish and ignorant comments can lead to overdoses and suicide by people who are suffering and feel they have been ridiculed and have no support.
it is shameful for perez to make any statement in regards to disease and illness of which is born. making fun of someone's outfit or makeup is FAR different than someone's illness that they cannot control. perhaps you should look in the mirror and do some self evaluation, as maybe you tear apart others in dealing with your own insecurities.

perez always is in shock and awe when someone trashes someone who is gay or a lesbian, but when it comes to mental illness, he could care less. I am glad that she is coming out about this. People are so ignorant about the reality of mental illness because they are not faced with it. We need to become more educated as a society so that we treat others with respect and compassion. My brother attempted suicide twice while dealing with the horrors of schizophrenia. He knew this would be a life of ridicule and horror and didn't know if he wanted to live that hell. Thankfully he failed at suicide and is taking his meds. IT will be a long road but I admire him and others dealing with these issues. I hope this post may change the minds of even a few so that you can correct others when they are making comments about something they know nothing about.
This goes to show that these drug companies are more corrupt than any other industry in the states. They claim these mind altering drugs are miracle cures and they are nothing but f'ing people's brains up. DO NOT TAKE THIS POISON. Life is meant to be tough, stressful and hellish, deal with it without popping pills.

I live in Hattiesburg, MS, which is like 15 minutes from Collins MS where Deltas husband, Gerald, is from. So a couple of years I read an article about them starting an "antique" shop in Collins. Well now I understand where all the junk in the store came from, Deltas hoarding problem. I've never been but heard that the shop has just junk.

Delta Burke and Gerald McRaney should be hailed as the couple to emulate. They have remained married in the "Hollywood fishbowl" and have survived despite some harsh times. I wish the two of them nothing but the best and hope Delta can have a full recovery. Mental illness is not a laughing matter and many people suffer the effects of depression everyday undiagnosed. I hope Delta can receive the proper help so that she can move forward and enjoy her life with her wonderful husband. I wish them the best.

Also called emotional illness, mental disease, mental disorder. —-sounds like depression fits into this definition to me. It doesn't mean it is a bad thing, only that it needs to be taken seriously and not pushed under the covers like it is something to be ashamed of. Many people have it and don't get help for it for fear of being labeled. That is a shame.

No she is still pretty but when she was young (and not fat) she was a hottie, for the 70's with big hair and shoulder pads hot. I guess it was the part but she always dressed like an older lady. I, too, suffer from depression ..i have most of my life. Its nothing to be made fun of. No one wants to suffer from this disease..but it is as real as any other illness. You wouldnt make fun of someone with cancer…yet its accepted to mock someone with depression who is so severe it threatens her life? Shame on you perez. Suicide is the number one killer of teens. Depression is real and it kills.
I hope Delta finds the right combo of meds to help her. Lots of times u need to find different combinations until u find what works. Its not an easy process.

Being on 5 different meds for depression. OCD, and anxiety disorders is NOT uncommon!!! It takes awhile to get the right meds and the right dosages straightened out! It is NOT smart to make fun of someone who is dealing with these crippling problems! People with depression will often off themselves when having to deal with assholes who tell them to "pick themselves up by their bootstraps".

Very POOR last line of that article…lets not ever make jest about someone considering suicide as a way out. When you do things like that you just make people who have treatable depression or treatable mental health issues hide and feel more isolated…thus they won't seek treatment. Get it straight please, when someone is talking about a possible suicide…its a hell of a lot better to be cautious in instances like these rather than to be cynical.
not that you read these, but 5 medications may sound like a lot to someone who isn't mentally ill but as the daughter of a bipolar schizophrenic who takes 6 a day…i'm used to it. it actually keeps my mother functioning and sane. and while i personally have never done drugs and don't plan on starting (i'm in my 30s), i can say that for some, it works. no judgment. just adding my point of clarification. cheers.

She is so fortunate to have the devotion of her husband, Gerald McRaney. Her entire life it's all been about her. I met them in Cali at a benefit years ago and he was so coddling towards her. On the other hand, she'd snap her fingers and he'd run and get her a glass of wine, then snap again and he'd bring her an enormous plate of food. Even then, my husband said, "Maybe if she got up out of her seat and walked to the buffet, she'd loose a few calories." When her line on QVC failed, who was there doing infomercials w/ her? Gerald. His career has gone down the shitter being married to her. He's never in anything anymore.
