Filed under: TV News > Awardz

Sunday night's Academy Awards telecast was the least watched Oscar broadcast EVER.

Only 32 million people tuned in.

Sucks for the advertisers that paid top dollar for commercial time!

The people that I know who watched, only watched to see what was being worn. They couldn't even tell me what and who won. People don't give a s**t about the award shows.

I may just be naive but it probably had to do with the writer's strike and the lack of advertising they did for the big night. I had no f*cking idea it was on until half way through the telecast

    Good Day,

    Good! And good ridance.

The Oscars are no longer, IMHO, a truely talent based awards show. Both the actors (who are those who submit their votes for the awards) and the studios have completely fubared the Oscars. It has instead become a matter of which studio can market or sell their films to the electorate as an award winning film. Also - it smacks of being a "high school popularity contest". All you have to do is look at the all the flap in the news today of those not being included in retrospectives to figure that out. Lastly - I think the writers strike also had an effect on the poor ratings of the show. People simply became fed up of continually hearing about the strike and therefore were sick of hearing about it and the players in the strike which in turn created a backlash and people chose not to watch. Either that or more people are tuning into prime time NASCAR (on FOX) races…

I watched part of it and yes…yawn, yawn,…it sucked… It was much more fun to watch the red carpet then the show it's self. I all so don't know what was worst, the way the show was set up or the fact people weren't allowed to say thank you after they won their award.

That was more to do with the fact that there were no big blockbuster movies nominated, which is a good thing in my opinion, i guess the midwest doesn't give a fuck about no country for old men , there will be blood and atonement, all great movies, beautifully acted and very well written and directed.Americans don't like culture, they love guns and car chases but not the No country for old men style.
Ah well i guess they'll have to go back to making rubish movies next year.
    SAD.

    no wonder, the show sucked.

  41. Here Is The Reason Ratings Were So Low says – reply to this
    41

The acedemy awards are supposed to be about movie stars. Instead it has turned into those who THINK they are stars. A place for those who are rich in hollywood to party.

  42. Norma Desmond says – reply to this
    42

They don't listen to people who complain about how LOOOONNNGGG and BBBOOORRIINNNGG they are! It's four f-in' hours of old movie clips that we have seen to death. It's not 1957 anymore a-holes…we have other things to watch. See you on the Hallmark channel in about three years!

  44. Brad Renfro died 01/15/08 - was robbed being honored says – reply to this
    44

Brad Renfro was shunned out!! He died January 15th 2008 and the cut off was January 31st 2008. Since they got the worst ratings in 20 years. That's what these assholes get!!

    45

Re: Jebus – erm you are wrong, the oscars will always be the highest acolade an actor/writer or director could ever hope for, if you are the film industry nothing is more valuable than an oscar.

    46

Is this any big suprise?? I don't know anyone who watched them, or the movies nominated. BORING.

I didn't watch because I wasn't interested in any of the films nominated, with the exception of Juno.
    But that's just me

  49. Ramona says – reply to this
    49

Nobody gives a shit about the oscars. Nobody gives a shit about celebs. We just like to see them crumble. Movies aren't worth 2 cents anymore. And today's "celebs", well, not exactly classy like the old days.

  50. keight says – reply to this
    50

ya i think it had more to do with the celebrities then it did the host. jon stewart is funny, but it's not the event it used to be. there's always waves in oscar ratings because there are waves in popular and decent actor's and movies. this was a bad year for both so no one really tuned in to watch it be celebrated.

  51. wellduh! says – reply to this
    51

i can understand, i wasn't bothered to watch it. the most nominated films were so boring! no country for old men? etf? who cares!
last year there was "the queen" "last king of scotland" "the departed" "dreamgirls"! such diversity!
this year it was movies no one watched! the only movies nominated were like there will be blood, NCFOM and away from her, and juno (who everyone knew would never win anything) oooh! interesting! NOT.
2007, definetely one of the weakest and worst years for the movie industry
the only filmed i was rooting for was there will be blood! and they didnt get what they deserved!
the oscars suck, no one cares about the academy awards, they're deteriorating in quality.
they make comedians the presenters (chris rock(?) ellen(?) whoopi(??) and john stewart(????') and yet they never nominate comedies!
    BOOO

  52. SUMMER says – reply to this
    52

Does anyone watch that show anymore? I cant beleive they where able to get 32 million. The oscars are over, so is Hollywood for that matter. Let's all hope the actors do strike.

I'm sure JCPenny is trying to get some cash back from that shit-heap fiasco!
Thanks GIL CATES for producing the worst FUCKING SHOW IN THE HISTORY OF AWARDS SHOWS!!!! It really couldn't have been shittier! WE SHOULD ALSO THANK PATRICK CHERRONE for his contribution as well. That shit-bag held up negotiations SO LONG that he has single-handedly ruined all of hollywood. Here's to the FUCKING CUNTS!!!

    57

the oscars will be back next year , bigger and better.
you people need to chill about this already, may i remind everyone that there was a writers strike that lasted 6 months and that the oscars nearly didn't happen.
quit complaining , if you don't like it, don't fucking watch it.
it once a year and it's been going for more than 80 years , it's not about to be cancelled because a bunch of illiterate fucks who have the mental age of 12 year olds don't like the show.

  58. Hacks says – reply to this
    58

Who wants to see a bunch of overpaid pretenders while they award themselves once again for doing their job? Then we hear of all the decadence and debauchery they get to partake in, while we worry about how we're going to pay our bills month to month as prices for everything go up and up.

I turned it off after Katherine Heigl came on in the very beginning. SVU marathon was way better. The Oscars are just a stodgy old venue for the rich and famous to swing their dicks and congratulate each other on being masters of the universe. I was unlucky enough to catch that goddamned crapola musical number and that nearly fucking killed me. Next year, I'll pop a qualude before so that I will be too blasted to lift up my arm and change the channel.

I haven't seen any of the movies that were up for awards, nor do I know of anyone who has seen them.

These actors get paid millions of dollars to do a job. Then they want us to watch them get an award for being overpaid?

  64. cariss says – reply to this
    64

why would you pay top dollar to put your ad during the oscars? It never has great ratings and it is looonnnng and draw oooouuuuuttt. Most people, that watched, probably do things during the long commercial breaks. If you want your ad to be seen-superbowl, top rated show, etc

  65. Totally Loserific! says – reply to this
    65

I started to watch, then nearly died of boredom at the thirty-minute mark, and turned it off. I see by this morning's news that I missed nothing and made a great decision. Hollywood seems tired, cliché, and pointless.

  66. Duh, I wonder why. . . . says – reply to this
    66

The show was total garbage! What a crock of self-absorbed losers. The "winners" were the biggest losers of all. No other profession tosses so much glory its own way OR contributes so little to the overall of humanity. It was truly painful to sit through the bit I could stand.

  67. Kelly says – reply to this
    67

People are fast becoming sick of hollywoods self glorifying money makign machines they call "moviestars". To many hungy people in this world for so much focus to be on these self absorbed ass's

These women look like idiots — like dolls — like those women who collect dolls from the Franklin Mint. Yeah, about that smart. Does Renee Zellweiger really contribute anything to this world? No.

the reason people didn't watch not everyone can i could (only saw oscar . com who the winner were) and all the moives that won was crap juno didn't desrved to be nomited (ellen page wasn't gr8 at all jamie lynn spears helped her he the moive she would've done well otherwise) and that kirsten girl singing thats how you know that was crap lots of people thought so and i better people were hoping amy would've performanced it not her they should put oscar on an channel in england were everyone can watch and nomited the write people (marion totally desvred the oscar)

I heard Demi Moore has diarrhea so bad that Ashton had to dig a hole in the back yard to contain the contents of her ecoli-infested colon.
