No, he didn't die after the cut off, he died like a week before Heath Ledger.. The academy sucks for omitting him… He was in great movies: the Client, Sleepers, Apt Pupil with some of the best actors around… The academy should apologize to his poor family.. Who cares how he died… He's not the first, and the industry drove him to his lifestyle, doesn't take away from his great performances

I am really tired seeing all these comments that he wasn't nominated or associated with Academy Award Film. Also that he wasn't an Academy Member. Do you even know what that means? The Motion Picture Arts and Sciences BLAH BLAH is just fancy words for an actor being in films. I thought I already mentioned that he already qualified to be remembered if there was any qualifications. He was in a Oscar and Golden Globe nominated film (Ghost World) and his first movie helped Susan Sarandon get nominated for an Oscar. And its not because he wasn't nominated because Suzanne Plachette along with actors' agents, crew and stuntmen were not nominated for Oscars but they were there. How about this…in the montage of hosts, they forgot Whoopi Goldberg, and Steve Martin as hosts when they hosted more than 3 times!! Apparently whoever was running the Oscars this year was having an absent mind because of the strike…He was snubbed! Nominations and all that jazz had nothing to do with it.

You guys are morons. They only featured actors who were at least nominated for Oscars in the memoriam thing. Relax.

They could have showed him in a scene from Ghost world (his best role) and it would've taken like, 2 seconds to do it. Hope they're not just being snobs.

I think it's very disrespectful….. he died a week BEFORE Heath Ledger and Heath ALSO died of a drug overdose. For some reason they left him out intensionally, very rude. I bet they think the oscars are too "classy" to include someone who overdosed on herion….. but GUESS WHAT….. Heath Ledger overdosed as well and Owen Wilson tried to kill himself. In my opinion, all of these actors are trouble in the same way. And Brad was more talented and better looking than Heath and Owen.

When i saw the "in memoriam" the first thing i noticed when it was over was Brad Renfro was not in it. I know he's not the best influence or anything but he was a damn good actor!!!

All you people need to do is rent "The Client" an awesome movie from a truly great child actor who unfourtanly got caught up in the drug scene. Also, I think he died before Heath Ledger. They also left out Anna N. Smith this year and last year, I agree she wasnt a great actress, but shouldnt have been snubbed either. These people made the studios TONS of MONEY . SHAM ON YOU OSCARS, WILL NEVER WATCH AGAIN.

He died one week before Heath Ledger. I'm not sure but it may have been only Oscar winners that were featured, though that doesn't really seem right. It was a shame that he was left off the list, even if he did have a troubled and tragic life.

Only Academy members are mentioned in the Annual Death March of Deathly Death, which at least explains the Renfro omission. (Notice, for example, the difference in the Oscar list and the SAG list.) Anyone nominated for an Oscar is automatically a member, IIRC–thus, Heath Ledger.

Its true a lot of people dont remember what he was in. He was the brother off deuces wild. I noticed it right off that they didnt mention him but only because him and heath ledger died so close to each other. If that hadnt happened i wouldnt have thought of him. He wasnt as big but i still think they should have included him.

I have developped a strange interest in this guy. He was a pretty kid that didn't know what to do when puberty took away those looks. He finally got some press when he died. You could almost see the last thoughts in his head being they will remember me when I die. Then someone young, handsome, and talented dies. Then the Oscar snub. Damn, he had some bad luck.

Maybe because he is a douche thats why. They are not obligated to honor anyone and someone who has always been surrounded by trouble surely does not deserve to be recognized. Besides he is an addict and he got what he had coming to him. I am tired of the world feeling sorry for these junkies who are only better than common street bums because they have money.

It shouldn't matter that he died from drugs. I am pretty damn sure that Marilyn Monroe was honored & I remember River Phoenix being honored in the memoriam. The fact that he hasn't been in "big" movies in a while shouldn't be a factor either. I am sure quite a few of the folks that were honored last night haven't done anything in decades. My friends and I were blown away. I have been watching the oscars for several years & cannot believe the disrespect.

I noticed it immediately since he died right before Heath Ledger. I think it's terrible, and it was the least that was owed to him since he died as many have in that industry. It really doesn't make sense that he be left out because of the "circumstances" surrounding his death, but let's be honest Heath didn't die in the most normal sense either. Also, she may have been a wack job, but how about Anna Nicole Smith…She WAS an actress, too, you know.

Comedian Richard Jeni was also noticeably left out of the Oscar Memorial.
He WAS a member of the Academy and actually WROTE for the 77th Annual Academy Awards in 2005.
Executive Producer for the Oscars , Gil Cates , was in attendance at Richard Jeni's private Hollywood Memorial.
      How disgusting is that oversight?

Comment from New York Times site:

It’s all about the dirty dark secret that the movie industry does not want to admit — or be within a mile of acknowledging: that it exploits, uses up and spits out children. In this instance, Hollywood used a 12 year old kid — and then blamed the consequences of that exploitation on the kid himself, and ignored the ugly end. Brad Renfro is not the exception; he’s the rule. It’s child molestation, pure and simple. And it’s been happening forever. Pity that even the New York Times is complicit in this exploitation. Can you imagine the expose it would run if it didn’t have an interest in promoting popular entertainment?

I spoke with the Academy the next day, there attitude was we don't need to explain ourselves and since you cannot effect our bottom line, why am I talking to you.

In short, it could be argued that Hollywood killed Brad, seems strange that they abuse him in death as they had in life…

BTW Brad died a week BEFORE Heath Ledger and from the same cause - drug overdose and it happened in January, er go he should have been included this year. I have resolved to not watch the Oscars again, they are too self serving and totally irrelevant.
