Such A Lame Excuse

A spokesperson for the Academy Awards is speaking out about why Brad Renfro was omitted from the Oscar's "In Memoriam" tribute.

“It was really an editing decision because we can’t fit everyone in,” says a rep for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. “There was no specific reason.”

Is that a good enough excuse?????

      13

Uuuummm What movies has he been in? I serisously dont think I have ever seen him in a movie before. I think its their award show and they can show tribute to whom they choose, and also can leave out whoever they choose. Simple as that. ♥

    14. MOLLY says – reply to this

      14

He wasn't a member of the Academy. I thought that was the excuse? Oh well, they should have included him regardless. He had a better career than Heath Ledger did.

    15. Joyce says – reply to this

      15

The worst excuse ever. He was famous enough to warrant 1 clip.

Are you kidding? The reason he wasnt on there is because the Academy are OLD STUFFY FUCKS who are SO judgemental they didnt put him in because of HOW he died not because HE died.. I CANT STAND the Oscars.. They suck

    19. cdm says – reply to this

      19

poor excuse. brad died before heath, so technically brad should have been put in before heath.

    20. kelly says – reply to this

      20

To the big wigs at the oscars, brad probably wasnt important enough, cause his name was renfro, not pitt. He wasn't an A-lister, therefore, they don't care.

      34

That is NOT a good enough excuse. If it really was a 'time' issue, then why not speed up some of the people who had 2 films clips vs. one short one. That is so low of them to not include him.

      59

i think they should have included him and its fucked up that they didnt. what makes one persons life or death more important, valuable or noteworthy than another?? nothing, not to mention that no one should make that kind of judgement. thats just fucked up.

    60. CindyLG8 says – reply to this

      60

It is a horrible excuse. They showed more than one shot of some people and that could have easily been cut down. What was their excuse for leaving out Roy Scheider? That is an even worse omission!

    61. DH says – reply to this

      61

Hmmm…it's a bit of a kick in the face but it's probably because he died of a drug overdose. I guess the academy didn't want to show the memory of someone who used and abused illegal drugs and killed himself because of it..I mean, that's the only reason I can really think of…But who knows. Who cares. They DID come up with a pretty lame excuse though.

    62. MissBunny says – reply to this

      62

I wonder if they left anyone else out??? If not i'd say that was a pretty shitty thing to do….they were prolly all over Heath and he overdosed too. Guess you have to be a high priced junkie to get any air time.

    63. rachel says – reply to this

      63

Why do you keep using his mugshot? That's disrespectful.

The Academy could have at least included a photo like they did during the SAG awards.

    64. Brooke says – reply to this

      64

That's ridiculous. They can fit in actors who havne't acted in 40+ years and who NOBODY knows. You are lame, academy. lame-O!

    65. laura says – reply to this

      65

all i know is that he was in like two scenes in ghost world…i think they have to stick to people who have some connection to the academy, or the list could be very long. and not to sound mean, but including all less 'successful' individuals takes away from honoring people who have made great contributions to cinema.

    66. hristy says – reply to this

      66

Re: k.c. – im sorry, but ur a fucking idiot!!! why are u even commenting on this blog if u don't have anything intelligent to say about the guy… he was a good actor. true, not an a-lister, but still a good actor! even if u've never heard of him… check out imdb u dumb fuck! they should have included him b/c 1- he died a WEEK before heath and 2- he was well within their so called "deadline" & 3-if u dont have anything nice to say… don't say anything at ALL!

    67. Will says – reply to this

      67

they fit everyone else in… such a bullshit excuse.

    68. Michelle says – reply to this

      68

How f*cking disgusting of the academy. First of all, I think it was intentional since he died an embarrasing death…due to Heroin overdose. Not a noble one llike Ledger?

But, they were both victims of this business, and none more than Renfrow. A boy who was plucked from a small town at age 11 to be brought to Hollywood. He had no familial support, no extraodinary dream to act, no decent education, and ultimately he self-destructed. Embarrasing for Hollywood. Shame on the Academy for the exclusion!!!! Shame shame shame!!!

    69. CUNTS!!! says – reply to this

They have the fucking "ROOM" to start including shit-bag AGENTS in the fucking MEMORIAM TRIBUTE NOW!!! FUCK THE ACADEMY AWARDS. This SHIT IS OVER!!!!!

    70. rufus says – reply to this

      70

Yes it was. I thought that this was such a awful award show. come one they leave Woopie out and then actor. Those are just the ones we notice the 1st time watching it but really if we were to watch it over again i bet thier are alot missing.

      71

      No!!!

    72. ursaminorjim says – reply to this

      72

Please - they found room to mourn fucking AGENTS, and not a relatively well-regarded young actor? I mean, they could've trimmed a few seconds off Heath Ledger at least. I guess overdosing on prescription drugs is more socially acceptable, though.

    73. G says – reply to this

      73

I think it's a shame They remembered executives and agents but not him? the baftas did, maybe they just didnt see him as deserving because he hadnt really been in many great films, but it's still not right

    74. Shelley says – reply to this

      74

Hell no! They have as much time as they allot for the segment!! A few more seconds to include a few more actors who passed away would not have hurt anything!

    75. Cameo says – reply to this

    85. Mai says – reply to this

That was a very very lame and sad excuse

    86. lee says – reply to this

      86

BULLSHIT - they left him out because he was trouble, history of drugs and arrests and died of an overdose - Heath got mentioned because he didn't have any "known" history - Hollywood is so hypocritical - look, the kid had problems but he was an actor, a very good actor and should have been acknowledged, would have taken 2 seconds out of their bland show - Here's the shame, if Lindsey Lohan (God forbid) would have died of an accidental overdose you know they would have mentioned her, but she has a history of drug/alcohol problems and been arrested - I guess Brad went to far because it was heroin, not nearly as acceptable as coke….

The Golden Globes even fit Heath Ledger in like 3 days after he died. Wow they forgot Roy Scheider too? Someone fucked up big time.

      89

brad renfo hadn't done enough, he wasnt a credited actor, but they still should of shown him, but its not that big a deal to be honest, maybe if he was more serious about acting and less interested in partying he would have got a nod, however if that's the case he would still be alive

    90. GIL CATES IS A FUCKING CUNT!!!! says – reply to this

What a FUCKING DOUCHE!!! We can't put him in because he ODed!!!! WAHT A BUNCH OF SHIT!!!! FUCK THE ACADEMY!!! FUCK THE MPAA!!!! Plenty of time for Jack Fucking Valenti in your shit-heel TRIBUTE!!!! That cunt wasn't WORTH the toilet paper that wiped him out of this world!!! Screw the Academy awards!!! They ARE FINISHED!!! HOORAY!!! We can all thank Patrick Cherrone for that ONE!!!

    91. caitlin says – reply to this

      91

That is terrible. They showed people in that segment that most of us have never heard of, but they can't squeeze three more seconds and shot of Brad Renfro in? Granted, I think you're making too big a deal about this, but that's an awful excuse.

    98. Amanda says – reply to this

      98

NO WAY!!!!!! I have seen the tribute last ALOT longer than it did this year. Why did the Globes fit him in then??? It's not like 50 more people died between the Globes and the Oscars. I think that is crap that they left him out - I noticed it right then and was sad for his family! For those of you who don't know who he is - watch The Client!!!!!!!!!!!

    99. Whatthe?!?!? says – reply to this

      99

NOT to be disrespectful of those that the Academy honored- but WTF? His life was cut short just as horribly as others- is the snub because of the drugs? Or let me be specific- HEROIN? He's just as dead no matter how he got there; one sad thing- drug addiction is a fact of life. And it is everywhere, and I love those in MY life (family and friends) who are gone because of drugs. We might not love the decisions they made; that doesn't mean that we don't love them.

    100. Rachel says – reply to this

      100

the reason they didn't include Roy Scheider is because the "deadline" (no pun intended) that the person had to have passed away by was Feb 1st. They clearly showed that at the beginning of the tribute. Roy died Feb 10th. He'll be on it next year.
