Comedian Jerry Seinfeld has asked the courts to throw out a lawsuit brought against him for making fun of Missy Chase Lepine, the woman suing his wife for plagiarism.
A comedian making fun of someone is one thing. But disparaging her reputation??? That's major shiz.

Lepine is the author of The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids' Favorite Meals. It's a book about how to sneak veggies into dishes in a way your kids would never suss out.
Said book came out in April 2007. Mrs. Seinfeld's book, Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food also features ways to fake out your kids by putting veggies in their meals. Seinfeld's book was published in October 2007.
Lepine claims that since her book was out first and that there are some EERILY similar recipes that Seinfeld is a total copycat.
Lawyers for the Seinfelds dismissed the plagiarism allegations in the court filing, saying, "The idea of sneaking healthy foods into a child's diet is not original to your (Lepine) author."
So after Lepine filed the plagiarism lawsuit Jerry Seinfeld went on the Letterman and called Lapine a wacko and compared her to the killers of John Lennon and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
Lepine didn't appreciate that and filed a suit accusing him of slander and defamation.
"Jerry Seinfeld made overstatements of opinion for comic effect," the comedian's lawyers said in the filing.
Overstatement? That's the best your high priced lawyer could come up with??????

Honestly, Jessica Seinfeld stole Jerry from Shoshana and was married to some other dude when she hooked up with Jerry, does anyone believe she wouldn't steal a recipe - one of the recipes is an exact replica of the recipe in Lepine's book - if she thought it could get her some dollars. Please.

a recipe is a recipe, once published ppl are free to use that recipe and interpret it to whatever they want. u shoulda kept ur recipes a secret if u dont want ppl copying. duh!!!!!

Only somebody who "writes" a book knowing it will sell on star-power and not because they are qualified to write a book would be dismissive of plagiarism. This case is open and closed. The plaintiff had her book on the market first, so she is entitled to all the profits of Seinfeld's grubbing wife's book. Anybody who knows anythign about business is aware of the "first to market" principle. And anyways, Jerry Seinfeld isn't even funny, just mildly amusing on a good day. It was Michael Richards and Jason Alexander who were funny on his show. And Larry David wrote all the funny stuff. That's why Seinfeld's show tanked after David left. What has Jerry done lately? His Bee Movie was a bust, even my kids didn't laugh at it. Face it, he was a "one hit wonder" and now he'll coast on his money without ever accomplishing anything outside of the wife-stealing realm.

I saw the show when Seinfeld was making those comments. Thought he was an asshole for saying that and also felt it was slander. The best thing he could have done is kept his big mouth shut. The original author was very lady like in her comments but Seinfeld (rolling eyes).
Anyway his wife isn't a saint since she was having an affair with him before she divorce her husband. I think her marriage was very short. Maybe when Seinfeld has no more money she will leave him too LOL.
Actually Lapine did sue or accuse Jessica of anything. She only sued AFTER Seinfeld made all these snotty remarks. News reports and the like were pointing out the similarities and then the Seinfelds tried to defend their book poorly in the press. Then Seinfeld made those remarks in Letterman and that was the last straw for Lapine.

Totally agree with Obsessed. I saw that episode of Letterman, and it is no surprise to me that Jerry is being sued by Lapine after he talked about her like that on the show. I even stated to my husband that I would put money on it that she ends up suing him for defamation of character. It was wrong, wrong, wrong. I used to really think Jerry was a stand-up kind of guy (no pun intended), but after seeing him on both Larry King and Letterman, I really lost my respect for the guy. Arrogance is so unattractive.

Not a question of whether moms for ages have been doing this, question is the author's creative interpretation and it certainly appears to be copied. Seinfeld used a very public forum to be malicious and spiteful, hoping to bully, intimidate and embarass Lapine in her suit. It would be in Seinfeld's best interest to be muzzled, but by whom? His lawyers are laughing all the way to the bank.

I saw the Letterman segment. At the time I thought his comments were in really poor taste. It didn't seem as if he was trying to be funny but rather that he was using his wealth and celebrity to mock and disparage this poor woman in a public forum. I'm glad someone is calling him on it.

The point not mentioned is that the lady's book was submitted to and REJECTED by the same publisher, then Seinfeld's wife's book came out with eerily similar recipes.
