Maxim magazine issued an apology to their readers. You know, horny straight dudes that don't like the pink background.
The mag fucked up and they're owning up to it!
A Maxim music critic gave the Black Crowes' new album War Paint a crappy review…despite the reviewer not even listening to the album!!!!
Shady!
That review rightfully peeved the former Mr. Kate Hudson and his band. They posted a statement on their site last week saying the Maxim writer could not have heard the entire album because advance copies weren't even available. The Crowes' manager, Pete Angelus, said the magazine explained that its review was an "educated guess."
WTF? An educated guess????
The mag has since issued the following statement:
"It is Maxim's editorial policy to assign star ratings only to those albums that have been heard in their entirety. Unfortunately, that policy was not followed in the March 2008 issue of our magazine and we apologize to our readers."
We hope Maxim's sister publication, Blender, doesn't do the same thing!

I think that one can make an educated guess whether an album sucks or not when they have heard a majority of the songs. One or two songs are not gonna make a whole album ROCK. So maybe there policy is not to review until the whole album is heard. BUT ONCE AGAIN PEREZ IS TWISTING THE TRUTH! MAXIM HAD HEARD SOME OF THE SONGS, JUST NOT ALL, AND THEY CAN THUS CLAIM THE ALBUM IS SHIT.
100% unacceptable and disgraceful. Who is this reviewer to presume an educated guess? What are the credentials to make an educated guess on a recording that one has not heard? Does one employ the psychic network, a magic 8 ball, a ouijia board… what exactly is the procedure for such an educated guess? I am going to presume, that this person has been fired. Maxim's apology is also unacceptable. Quite frankly one would expect more of an explanation as to how this got beyond everyone proofing. I didnt know Maxim was so YELLOW and biased. Blender and Maxim apparently just make shit up as they go along. Tell ya what, I am going to publish a magazine on educated guesses… and charge alot of money and fill it with glossy airbrushed photoshopped pictures… then I can issue lame ass statements of apology too.
where's your mea culpa? you offended a lot of people today with your chicken comment, whether you meant to or not. Since many of your readers don't live in the city where all of the robberies happened, they might not be familiar with the "Wings and More" store. You might not be either.
Why don't you be a man for a change and offer an apology to the people you offended.
This is different than making fun of c-list celebrities. You offended some of the people who have supported you for a long time. Maybe stand up and acknowledge them. Two words, Perez: "I'm sorry." That's what can separate you from the dregs you often write about.

I think Maxims educated guess is probably right on the money, not to mention hilarious. When you talk about integrity in journalism leave Maxim out of it. It is a toungue-in-cheek mens magazine full of tits and ass, and crude humour. Not exactly what people should be turning to for informing them about world affairs. As far as the band in question goes, when was the last time they put out a decent album -ten years ago. They are lucky to be mentioned in a magazine review, and frankly if the singer hadnèt been screwing Kate Hudson nobody would be talking about them at all.

The Crowes are one of the best bands around. They deserve proper recognition, so Maxim was right to issue an apology. For those of you trashing the band, I wouldn't doubt you all are as clueless as that Maxim journalist. If you like the Allman brothers and the Rolling Stones, then you will have ear for the Crowes. You need to stop haten and listen.
my guess is that the maxim editor did listen to an album but it was an online leak. assuming no one would ask, he figured it would just be accepted. as soon as people asked he was in the pretty pickle of admitting to downloading illegal material or saying that he didn't listen to it. and so he claims he didn't listen to it.
or he could be lying. Either way, i'm looking forward to give the album a spin. Paste magazine gave them a pretty big profile and i usually trust paste's recommendations.

Hey brain-child, if Chris Robinson had not been screwing the stupid talentless whore that is Kate Hudson, the Black Crowes would have never broken up and they would have released an album more recently than 10 years ago.
Regardless, the Black Crowes are a great band and have done some great songs over the years. If you don't like their music, fine, but your stupidity should not excuse a reviewer who is too lazy, stupid or whatever to even listen to an album before he/she/it reviews it.
Between you and the reviewer, it is a real battle of wits.

Reviewers do this ALL the time!! We've had alot of awesome review for our new album "Users Cheaters Theatres", but also a few neg. Sometimes people only look at the cover and write a review, some don't even do that and write a review. I've had reviewers admit to me that they didn't even look at the album, they were just tired. WTF?!?! Then these "Reviews" SELL our Cd on Amazon & Ebay, & make $$ off the album we sent them! SCAM CITY! Go to Amazon , look us up and you'll see these scammers!
