Apologies are in the air today!
Oscar producer Gil Cates reportedly called the failure to acknowledge Whoopi Goldberg's stint as a two time Oscar host in a montage "an absolute oversight".
"No harm was intended, and I feel very, very badly that she was left out," Cates said Tuesday. "I'm going to call her and tell her that."
Cates went on to more or less defend the montage in question. The montage supposedly was NOT a host montage. It was meant to highlight 80 exciting Academy Award moments. He also pointed out that former host, Steve Martin, wasn't in the montage.
Cates did give Whoopi some props by calling her a "formidable talent."

I think that the omissions of Brad Renfro & Roy Scheider from the "Rememberance Montage" is far worse.

She said on The View she hosted 4 times. Not 2. And it's just STUPID of the Academy to obviously insult someone who has a highly rated morning show coming on 12 hours after yours ends. The producer of that particular Oscar show blew it pretty bad in more ways than one. I hope some heads roll for the Renfro slip up as well. Why don't they just cut out the goddamn musical numbers for all the nominated songs (it's not the Tony's!) and some of the BS and make the show a manageable two hours long with actually interesting clips and jokes? Perhaps the public would watch next year if they put some effort into it.

If it had been a montage of ALL the hosts, then I can see where she could have been upset; however, it apparently wasn't, and I don't see Steve Martin being interviewed by ET and balling about it (although I'm sure he would just to be funny). I've lost all respect for Whoopee since she's joined The View. Not only is it a ridiculous show, but she can't even stand up for what's right on the show and instead caves and kowtows to Baba Wawa.
