Nicole Not Boozing It Up At The Oscars, Says Her Rep

In response to allegations from New York Post columnist Cindy Adams that Nicole Kidman was drinking wine at he Academy Awards, which we reported about….

The Australian actress' publicist, Catherine Olim of PMK, sent PerezHilton.com the following statement:

"I try to ignore your column, unlike most of the rest of the world, because it is so nasty. But I have to tell you that Nicole Kidman most certainly did NOT drink white wine or any other alcoholic beverage backstage. She had water and lemon zinger tea. That’s it. I know, I was there with her I cannot remember that last time that Cindy Adams got anything right. She’s an idiot, and you can quote me."

Accusing a pregnant woman of sucking back alcohol, especially when she has suffered miscarriages in the past is unforgiveable… Whether it may prove to be harmful to have one glass of wine or not, to many of the reading public, forcing alcohol on your unborn child is comparable to child abuse. Such allegations should not be thrown around in a cheesy gossip column!

First: One drink will not harm a fetus. It is not wise to imbibe on a regular basis during the first two trimesters and into the first part of the third trimester. I know many people in their 40s whose mothers drank and smoked, blissfully unaware, during their entire pregnancy. Stop the sensationalism of having one drink!
Second: Honestly, the only way to know if someone is drinking alcohol is to see it poured from a bottle or taste it.

The Surgeon General says that as a warning because they do not know for sure EXACTLY how much alcohol affects the fetus. However, it is WIDELY accepted that the occasional glass of wine WILL NOT harm the fetus. Get your facts straight.

I had a child two years ago and I've always drink one glass of wine a month. My boy is healthy. My doctor said for a pregnant woman is not dangerous to drink some wine. It's dangerous to smoke or take drug, but not drink wine.
