"Boozing backstage during the Oscarcast is a no-no. But if you're pregnant Nicole Kidman it's a yes- yes. She wanted white wine. She got it."

OH GET OVER IT! Some doctors actually RECOMMEND a glass of red or white wine occasionally during pregnancy because of the benefits of it. One glass won't hurt anyone.

Also, whoever said that "Haircolor is forbidden" during pregnancy was wrong. It's not a good idea, because your internal chemistry is mixed up, and a color that would work perfectly otherwise might either fry your hair or turn a different color during pregnancy.

AND, GET OFF IT about the Botox! The woman has denied it, and I don't think she gets botox. IF there's an article where she admits it, I haven't seen it.

The fetus has completely formed by 12 weeks - just not matured. Drinking alcohol will do the most damage during this critical time of development. After the first trimester, having a sip or a glass of wine will most likely not do any harm. unless the person is drinking heavily. If this were the case, more children would be born with FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome) as most women have no idea they are pregnant at first unless planning. oh and most docs do okay wine - a glass or two during the last trimester of pregnancy.

Depends on how far along she is… Assuming she's past her first trimester, one glass isn't going to hurt anything. It's the drinking every day that is worse for the baby. I have had an occasional drink during my 4 pregnancies that all resulted in healthy babies.

That said, I never drank in public while pregnant.

It depends on the chemistry of the woman and the problem with telling women its okay to drink once in a while during pregnancy is that everyone has a different idea what a 'safe' amount is. Your safe could be different than someone elses. Just stay away from the alcohol during pregnancy, b/c Fetal Alcohol Syndome is the number one cause of mental retardation in the US and it is 100% preventable. It is NOT ok to drink any amount of alcohol while pregnant. If your doctor told you it is ok it is time to get a new doctor. Any amount of alcohol at any point of pregnancy can cause FASD. If you choose to drink you are risking the health of your unborn baby. The "medical fact" is that FASD is more of a problem than anyone really knows. Good Luck!

I think it's okay. A girl I worked with didn't get her periods regularly so she didn't know she was pregnant. She kept partying and boozing till her 4th month–when her tummy got big. She went to the doctor, found out she was preggers, and got scared she'd hurt the baby. Five months later, she gave birth to a really wonderful little girl–all limbs and stuff complete and totally healthy and smart. The kid's 5 now, still cute and healthy.

I think smoking's fine, too. Jackie Onassis chain-smoked throughout her pregnancies and JFK, Jr and Caroline turned out okay…

Nicole comes from a family of healthcare professionals. Her own sister has been through pregnancy several times. I'm sure with the advice from her own family and her own doctors, she's very well informed about what she can and can't do for her own health and that of her baby. I'm absolutely positive that she will do everthing she can to have a safe pregnancy and deliver the baby safely. This is one baby that will be most cherished by his/her parents.

last! in the uk, the official NHS literature states that 4 to 9 units of alcohol per week is acceptable in pregnancy. however, the latest research shows that moderate drinking is correlated with later defecits in visuo-spatial skills (mathematical mapping). so, if you want your kid to be a math/physics whiz, don't drink at all. btw, has anyone else noticed prez W's FAS symptoms? and lastly, gay men should keep their opinions about pregnant women to themselves, even if the gay man is pseudo-catholic.

One glass of wine isn't going to cause a miscarriage. Miscarriages are most often caused by genetic abnormalities. Large amounts of alcohol need to be consumed in order to cause damage to a fetus, but there is no research examining any dangerous effects resulting from an occasional glass of wine. If you take a look at Europeans, they drink wine daily during their pregnancies and go on to have normal, healthy babies. And think about how many healthy babies are conceived when one or both parents were drunk. It's when mothers are getting drunk every day that the fetus suffers damage
