Conan O'Brien is set replace Jay Leno on the Tonight Show next year. And, as has widely been reported, Jay don't wanna go!
Leno remains the king of latenight and most of the rival networks and major studios are trying to court him.
The New York Times has a detailed article about all the behind-the-scenes offers being quietly sent to Leno.
The riches and most unique comes from Sony.
Sony Pictures Television has made an approach through intermediaries to let Mr. Leno and his representatives know that as soon as he is allowed to discuss his next move, the studio will make him a rich offer for a syndicated late-night show that would make him the highest-paid host in late-night television, put his name on a new theater on the Sony lot and give him a financial interest in Sony music artists who appear on his show.
Jay's not in it for the money, though. So it might take more than just a huge payday to lure him.
He obviously loves what he does, and at only 57 years old - he's still got a good 10+ years left in him as a talk show host.
It will be so much fun to see NBC scramble and try (at all costs) to keep him over the next year!

I've disliked Leno ever since he sold out Letterman. Maybe now, NBC's late night will have a little more humor and edge. Leno is, and always has been, the late night host for blue hairs and Republicans.
He loves doing stand up comedy. He should host an Arsenio Hall-type syndicated show, but get the entire summer off (like daytime talker Ellen does). He can have an easier work schedule, perhaps at a higher price tag and still do what he loves.

dude Conan is way funnier than Jay, and NBC knows that. if they scramble for anything over him it will just be out of guilt and respect for him for sticking with them all those years. Jay's a great host, but he doesn't have that edge over the competition that Conan will have. Conan is just hilarious.

Leno is so not funny, in fact in recent years he's just plain pathetic. Conan is far better than him, but Jimmy Kimmel is better than them both, and he's in LA so he should have been the one to take over the tonight show. Either way i hope Jay just retires and fades into oblivion, and if possible take Regis Philbin with him.

NBC shot itself in the foot, and they have nobody but themselves to blame. God, Jay has been a model employee, and for NBC to let potential contract information leak out, especially about their plans to DITCH him is unforgivable and inexcusable. Fukkin sharks. I say to Jay, just like a woman in a divorce, make 'em give you the house, the car, custody of the children and a huge alimony settlement. He didn't cheat on NBC, they cheated on him.
Ditch Nightline on ABC, move Kimmel to 12:30 AM EST and put Leno on at 11:35 EST on ABC…he would kick both letterman and O'brien's ass

Conan O'Brien will be the downfall of the 50+ year popularity of "The Tonight Show". Letterman will triumph. Forcing Leno to leave was sheer stupidity on NBC's part. Leno has maintained the dominance in that time slot. I have watched Conan's show and have not found it funny at all. I tune over to Craig Ferguson, who is hilarious. I give Conan 5 years as the host of "The Tonight Show" before he is replaced. Leno will succeed in whatever he does, and when Letterman retires, Craig Ferguson, who has the best monologues in late night, will replace him. Have you ever noticed that after almost every joke, Conan says 'yeah', it's annoying. After all these years, you would think that he would have mastered the telling of jokes. NBC thinks Conan will bring in a younger audience. Are they in for a surprise.

Conan is not funny??? He talks about himself all the time when he is interviewing guests. He uses the same old hair jokes and the weird jumping and clapping his hands and making faces at the camera. He is the worst of two worlds, he acts like a mime who is also a bad talking stand-up comic. His jokes are rarely funny - with our without writers. Leno is not perfect (s
