Ellen Says "Bow Wow, Woof Woof"

Ellen DeGeneres is a comedian, actress, author, Emmy award-winning talk show host, and now the Oprah-wannabe mogul can add Entrepreneur to the list.

As you probably remember, after that whole Iggy controversy, Ellen decided to help start an organization to rebuild in-the-dumps animal shelters across America.

Now, she's showing her love for animals a bit more by creating her own DOG FOOD!

But, not just any dog food. Really good quality doggy chow that even humans can eat.

That's SO Showgirls!

The dog food is called Halo.

In a recent interview, Ellen spoke about her new venture and partnership with Halo (known for its natural pet foods) to create the food line.

"Ours is all human grade. It's all natural. And yes, you can eat it," says DeGeneres. "People love their animals so much so that they put little clothes on them and necklaces and booties and things like that. And if you love your animal, then you should feed them something that's not dangerous for them. There's a lot of poisonous stuff that they’re putting in a lot of that food, those by-products."

When asked if Ellen were to be a politician, what would be her pet policy, she responded, "My pet policy would be to love them and give them as much respect as you would give any living thing and treat them kindly. They’re innocent little souls that are filled with unconditional love. And we should give them the same."

David and KYM you guys are idiots. First off Ellen never said she was into "animal rights". Its entirely possible to love animals, care about their welfare, and still eat meat. Its the way in which the meat is produced that counts for animal welfare. Secondly, unlike what most people think, animal rights groups are crazy, extremists and are very different from animal welfare groups. Though I do agree that celebrities should do a bit of reading before jumping on bandwagons. They all support groups like PETA yet they have no idea that PETA's ultimate goal is to get rid of pet ownership. PEREZ, figure that out and quit supporting PETA. If they had their way, you would not be allowed to own a dog.

I might be clueless, I know. But why should dogs and cats eat human grade food? In the history of pets, have they ever eaten human grade food?

Millions of pounds of beef–meant for human consumption–were recalled becaue it wasn't safe. Among other places, this beef was being used by schools for kids lunches in the Los Angeles school district.

So, um….I don't think I'd be real quick to have my doggie or cat eat human grade food. And really–if we're giving dogs and cats in this country human grade food–and is Ellen making a few bucks off of this?–shouldn't we be concerned about giving human grade food to starving people in other countries? Or people here?

ACTUALLY — Halo is just the name of the company that produces it (and Ellen's now co-owner); the food is called/known as [for last 20 yrs]: Spot's Stew (Spot was the pet of the woman who developed the recipes; he was dying, vet suggested putting him to "sleep" — but once she began cooking for him herself, his health improved & he lived another 14 yrs or something amazing like that). Go to Petco.com; they have a YouTube video up about it (Ellen talks about it). A lot of pedigree dog breeders use it.
