I mean, really…I'm in a almost 7 year relationship with someone I love of the same sex…and even I don't believe in same sex marriage. I believe in pro-creation, but I also think the world is overpopulated. Boutique homosexuality is absurd, vulguar, and just plain stupid. People do it because they think it's cool, and because they like the way it feels. That's what gets on my nerves. People die because they're gay, why abuse it by mocking it for a few days/months/years? I don't like seeing two men together. Now I'm to the poiint where I don't like seeing 2 women together. I am an indecisive hypocrite, and it's OK with me for now.

  12. Aiden says – reply to this

Yeah, I'm absolutely sure that he was simply being diplomatic here, because from what I've read he's pretty fucking insane.
That said, I dunno, he comes across as not unreasonable in his views in this interview. He seems more "old-fashioned" than right wing nut job here…
And the fact that I'm typing this right now makes me absolutely afraid of him, because he had me buying his story for a second there…

  13. learn to disagree without making it personal says – reply to this

I support him 100% The only ignorant bigots in this country are the gays who hate anyone who disagrees with them. You are that which you accuse Christians of being.

He is 100% right on the marriage issues….I believe God and prayer should be put back into schools across America….ever since God and prayer was taken out of schools, there as been an obvious increase in crimes in the schools system

  18. DaytonOhio says – reply to this

What in the world did he say that was wrong?? He's right… and I am a gay man !!!!

  19. Nkki says – reply to this

I support everything he's saying…and No I was an atheist getting my medical degree so I know both sides…He's well spoken, with points that justify what a percentage of the population agrees with. That, like everything else, should be voiced even if disagreed with..saying his an idiot makes ma as a young voter worried about the voting demographic.

  20. Conservative says – reply to this

Re: learn to disagree without making it personal – Thank you!
Perez you call yourself a Christian but live as a homosexual - er major conflict there mister!
The world is close to total anarchy, people want the right to do everything without recourse to the harmful effects this would have.

  22. Mattyboo says – reply to this

  33. mmm says – reply to this

There is absolutely nothing wrong, or stupid, with what he said.

  34. ADDIE says – reply to this

gays people need to be treated equally, strait people are not a step above homosexuals. by having different rights, such as the right to marry, america is encouraging homophobia and the unjust class system that is so obvious in today's society.
giving people different rights for any reason is unacceptable. "separate but equal" clearly does not work, America has instated equal rights between races, the next step is between homosexuals and heterosexuals. although america is still not where it needs to be in regards to racial discrimination we are a lot farther along than we were fifty years ago.
having equal laws promotes equality in all aspects of life. taking steps towards an accepting, and loving future is the most important thing america needs to do these days.

  35. I don't believe it says – reply to this

WOW I'm impressed with his rhetoric, if he believes it. I'm not anti gay, I like'em, but face it, its not the NORM, it's not. SORRY. Two men anally F-ing each other w/ shit on their dick is NOT normal. Evolution? IT'S FAR FROM FACT A-Z. It's a theory! It has BIG holes in it. There's room for GOD. Huckabee, never will be Pres, but I LIKE HIM, he's moderate. He's a Christian w/ love not hate, like most Republicans claim. So shut up and read a book.

  36. dutchy says – reply to this

what a lamo.. gay marriage FTW!!

  37. K says – reply to this

I agree 100% with "make learn to disagree without making it personal and Mike Huckabee. He in no way attacked someone for being homosexual. He simply stated how he felt about it when asked the question. I believe that is the beauty of a free country. He obviously has not made decisions on a person due to their sexuality considering he has gay people working for him and they SUPPORT him. Go figure. He is probably one of the least judgemental and full of character kind of person and straight up, he didn't dodge the question unlike others who would have just told you what you wanted to hear to get their vote. He states we are all equal. That is what this country is about.!!!!!

  38. mrbluehopes says – reply to this

please don't vote for him. How ignorant you have to be to refer to homosexuality as CHOICE???

please do not vote for him. He WILL treat sexual orientation minorities as second class citizens!

  39. Reality check says – reply to this

Um excuse me, but what was wrong with his statements? He doesn't entirely share your views Perez? Come on, he handled that eloquently and honestly, very admirable. He's a pastor for goodness sake, what did you expect? He doesn't bash homosexuals in any way AT ALL. At least he was honest. That's the most refeshing thing I've heard a candidate say in a very long time. I love you Perez, but don't become blind and dumb because it's expected that you should hate this man simply because your gay and he's republican.

Re: Mattyboo – Hey moron, he didn't disagree with evolution. He said out loud that he thought it should be taught in schools, but clearly stated as a THEORY, which it plainly is. Wow, did you even watch the clip, or lose interest and start picking lint out of your bellybutton after the first 15 seconds?

  45. Clinton/Obama08 says – reply to this

Mike Huckabee isn't a bad guy, he has his views and many Americans do agree with him. We shouldn't call him names because of his convictons, just agree to disagree with him. He is not mean and America could do a whole lot worse. He's better then most Republicans. And I think he is the new Campbell Soup guy…looks just like him…

  46. carlos d. says – reply to this

WOW! I hated this guy and thought he had zero education until I saw this. I'm not even Republican, but I would consider voting for him if he had the chance. He is absolutely correct and the example of love that most christians do represent. It is just sad that the media (including you perez, and I am a HUGE fan of yours) portrarys all Christians as weirdos and hate on them. Nobody says anything about that, but if we started condemning Muslim or other religions, it would be considered intolerable. He did NOT even comdemn being gay. . . I grew up Baptist and my church also was this way. It is only the media that has portrayed the "crazy" Christians in that light and has made the general public believe all Christians are that way, when it is quite opposite. Look at Lakewood Church!

Nice to hear you have love for all people, Huckleberry Finn. You ain't so bad after all! Maybe in '12!

  47. Shauna says – reply to this

Sounded fine to me. We're all aloud our opinions right? I don't think he sounded idiotic in his answer, I think it was an honest answer. The best thing about it was that it didn't sound just political, it was honest to the point where it was a personal opinion. If you are a gay man Perez and don't like being persecuted for your beliefs…why put someone else on trial that disagrees with you? Doesn't make your cause any more right.

  48. bi*mbo says – reply to this

    Gibberish? Phooey!

  49. Laura says – reply to this

Perez, I hate to say it, but he said nothing wrong. He made the point that he respects other people's beliefs and opinions, but happens to personally disagree with them…and that is okay.
As for what he said about evolution, I pretty much agree 100% with that. Evolution is extremely fascinating and important, and should be taught in schools. In fact, I'm in a 400 level college course on evolution right now, and I love it. However, if you happen to be a religious person and believe in God's creation of Earth, teach it at home to your family or go to Church to learn it. It should only be taught in schools if the student is in a religion class.

  50. I don't believe it says – reply to this

#34 ADDIE says – gays need to be treated equally" Great! but LET straight people have "Marriage". It's an important distinction to some. Two woman or two men, fine, legal "domestic partners", but the WORD Marriage is traditional. Tradition is important. Most big companies have domestic partner benefits anyway, so legally they have the same RIGHTS. Just RESPECT straight people wishes, move on! Militant gays suck. Respect is a two way street. If you can' imagine why shit on dicks makes people uncomfortable than sorry.

  51. Jay says – reply to this

I see nothing wrong with what he said. It wasnt stupid at all. He had a very intelligent response to her questions. Maybe you dont agree with his views Perez but it wasnt stupid at all, just like I dont agree with all your views but i dont think your stupid. I dont think he would be the best president but inb no way was what he said stupid or even really wrong, its just his view. In no way did he put down homosexuals he just simply said he doesnt agree with changing the institute of marriage from the way it has always been. I dont agree with him no, but theres nothing stupid about that point of view he has.

  52. Jan says – reply to this

I'm bisexual (and no, not to be cool, liked, whatever else these teens may be doing now a days) and I find nothing dumb about what he said. He seems to be an intelligent man and he's just supporting what HE thinks is right. Being pro gay marriage isnt wrong, being anti gay marriage isnt wrong.

Don't hate someone because their opinion is different than yours. Just like you shouldnt dislike someone because they are gay. Marriage is a religious ceremony…if you're not religious, why would you want to get married? O.o

  53. Jay says – reply to this

Oh and the evolution thing, I dont think evolution should be taught as the absolute answer. Creationism has been aroud longer than the theory of evolution. Thats what it is too a theory, both are, teach them as such. Both the same, as a theory. Dont teach children at public schools anything other than that they are both theorys that way everyone will be happy, let them learn at home what their parents want them to believe, and taught at school the different ideas as to how things came to be.

  54. lee says – reply to this

I'm not a fan of Huckabee's, he kind of scares me but his responses were diplomatic - he is a republican, after all - I don't agree with him, he says he supports marriage between two people who want to have children, although they might not be able to - I know what he means, but don't gay people fall into that category - Straight people can marry and either not be able to conceive OR not want to have children OR want to adopt so why can't gay people marry whether they want to have children (by surrogate or adoption) or not - Not all gay people want to marry just like not all straight people want to marry but shouldn't they have the choice - I just don't know what people are trying to accomplish by denying others the right to choose how to live their lives - how is it impacting you? - you're not going to stop homosexuality by denying it exists or by suppressing their freedoms - homosexuality has existed from the beginning and will always exist - you don't have to agree with their lifestyle but I don't know why people can't accept it -

  55. Chutzpah says – reply to this

Since when is being gay a choice? Oh yes, I chose to be heterosexual. Ignorance like this is just sad. I thought God was the one to judge, not "Christians" like this idiot.

  56. Think b4 you speak says – reply to this

Re: Kelly – Are you crazy?? How can you be against something you represent? You are no better than people who discriminate against their own race. I'm pretty sure that people who are gay do not choose to be gay because it is "cool" they are because that is how they feel. You are an abomination and an embarrassment and if you are so "indecisive" then maybe you should reconsider your own sexual orientation before you go preach against it!!!

  57. Alex says – reply to this

I love the way he thinks that evolution is a theory; and homosexuality is a lifestyle choice.

  58. CJ says – reply to this

Marriage is a religous thing, so in that sense i don't think gay people should marry. But civil unions should exist because atm alot of gay couples don't have legal status or executive of state over each other.

Re: carlos d. – Yeah, he's not that bad, and yes if we was to say something bad about Muslims we'd hear all kinds of bad things thrown at us, but yet it's ok to bash Christians?? Thats very true.. thanks

  62. me says – reply to this

That was the best I have ever heard him speak aside from his funny gig on SNL. I 100% agree with him. He wasn't saying it in a way to put anyone down but that that is how he believes. I too agree but as for same sex mattiage I always have said just give it a new name. Call it unionship and yes go ahead and yes have the state recognize it just as they would a marriage. That's the only way I see as a compromise.

  63. Someone needs a timeout says – reply to this

I don't believe as he does, but I don't think he sounds like the intollerant a-hole I assumed he would be. He actually sounds like a pretty nice guy that I still won't be voting for.

  64. Forest says – reply to this

The fundamental flaw in his logic is that he's viewing homosexuality as a choice or lifestyle, when it's a biological fact. People are born gay, society and parental nurturing may shape how they express it, but it's there. Sad that some people refuse to accept that fact.

  65. WTF? says – reply to this

I hope you get AIDS and die, Perez! That is if you already don't have it!

  66. objective says – reply to this

give the poor guy a break. what the heck did u expect - he's republican. chances are his answers were going to be one sided. did u really expect him to be very liberal or something? i think for a republican his answers were very well put and not too extreme, for a republican. i mean i'm not republican but at least im freaking objective when it comes to politics. maybe your site should just stick to freaking celeb gossip news and not the things that really matter in this nation since you lack the objective judgment and political experience. its just his opinion and standpoint. it's unnecessary for this kind of immature juvenile bashing, regardless of political standpoint.

  67. Paige says – reply to this

    Re: me

I absolutely agree with you 100%. And I thought his appearance was hilarious on SNL too. I would much rather have him on the Presidential ticket than McCain! Huckabee has my vote!

  68. Anin says – reply to this

I am a staunch liberal, and fully support same-sex marriage, however I think to call Huckabee and idiot is a sign of ignorance. You can disagree with what he says, but at least he explains his beliefs in an educated and eloquent manner.

He isn't preaching hatred, like most conservatives. He is simply stating what he believes and I commend him for it. Most people might not agree with him (including myself), but at least he isn't hiding his feelings–he provides full disclosure.

  69. Elliiiiiiiiiiiiiizabet says – reply to this

  71. Gazzer says – reply to this

Perez, What exactly is wrong with what he said? Is there something you don't understand? Do you need some help understanding things..The audience seemed to get it and approve. I am constantly amazed by your zealous promotion of yourself and Hillary and Barack. BTW about 14 1/2 minutes have already gone by for you.

  72. donder says – reply to this

perez, stupidest is not a word. it's most stupid.

  73. Don says – reply to this

His comments did not seem unreasonable, although I am sure they are as sugar-coated as possible.

  74. meliss says – reply to this

I LOVE how he answered this… I think he was right on point. Non-judgemental, not critical of other people's lifestyle choices, but defending the institution of marriage as it was originally created.

  75. mary says – reply to this

he actually doesnt say anything that damaging about homosexuality. He says do what you want and that he loves everyone. There could definitely be much worse.

  76. steph says – reply to this

i think that he is not being sooo crazy now because he is losing. it would be a very bad thing if this guy actually won.

  77. Scuzzbucket says – reply to this

I dont pretend to understand US politics but someone needs to educate this hicksville monkey that homosexuality isnt a lifestyle choice , good grief

  78. k8e says – reply to this

It wasn't gibberish…he was quite eloquent. I am in the middle of this whole issue. The proverbial "some of my best friends are gay" is true for me. Their sex life is their personal thing…it doesn't affect our friendship, but that doesn't mean I agree or support it. It's none of my business. I think they should continue with how they live their lives but don't make it everyone's business.

  79. Tbone says – reply to this

Might not agree with him completely, but that certainly was not "gibberish".

  80. michael says – reply to this

    Love his jackboots!

  81. Destiny says – reply to this

To all these people who are saying "Yeah, he is moderate", "he is not a homophobe": This is about RIGHTS and EQUALITY. Denying gay couples the right of marriage that straight couples have is unfair. If I said that e.g. black people can't marry, or interracial marriages shouldn't happen, but went on to say, no, I am not a racist, I don't hate black people but I just think that they shouldn't be married, would you believe I am not racist?? (which by the way I am not, I am straight and mixed race) Same here, he says he is not a homophobe, doesn't oppose gays, but he does not believe in granting them the same rights as straight people.

As for the procreation argument, if we only allow couples who have the capacity for bearing children to marry, shall we maybe ban sterile people, or people with a relevant disbility to get married as well?

If you don't have a problem with gays, then allow them the civil liberties that straight people enjoy!

  82. rjp3 says – reply to this

Black People are a lower RACE.
All ASIANS should just wash my dirty underwear.
Women are stupid and should not be allowed to vote.
    Homosexuality is a choice.

All stupid bigoted comments — Sorry religious folks - eventually you will not be socially accepted to speak such ignorance.

Should black people give a KKK candidate a "chance".
So sad Perez has so many ignorant readers.

  83. Lynn says – reply to this

I love this guy…I live in Ohio…and I'm voting for him on March 4th! I also believe marriage is between a man and a woman and I also believe that God created heaven, man, and earth. And, not said on clip of the Tyra show, I agree with Huckabee in stopping embryotic stem cell research and stopping abortion!! VOTE HUCKABEE!!!

BTW Hilliary is a she-devil and Barack is the anti-Christ, but if you want them in our oval office, go ahead and vote and God will take matters into his own hands!

  84. rjp3 says – reply to this

If TYRA had a clue she would have thrown him of the stage for saying homosexuality was a choice and a sin.

    Gay Men made her famous.

  85. Okay... says – reply to this

So, I guess people with fertility problems shouldn't' marry, since marriage should be between 2 people who "have the capacity" to pro-create. Fertility tests should then be part of the application for a marriage license. The message beneath this seemingly diplomatic logic is "gay couples are icky and although I know they exist, I don't want to have to acknowledge them."

  86. Joseph says – reply to this

ha, i hope that you are talking about tyra when you say stupid, perez i am not sure if you realize this, but i actually like mike huckabee more now.

  87. Rachel says – reply to this

I don't think what he's saying is that bad, haha. He is NOT acting like a crazy rightist, haha.. He's being very careful and very smart. You should respect that, I'd think.

  88. SeanO says – reply to this

Perez is FAG and thats a sin

  89. ihatehuckabees says – reply to this

i love how he goes on a show to target the votes he doesn't have women, younger voters etc. and morphs his language to sound less extreme and ignorant people fall for it! this is a right wing evangelical idiot who will never be elected because the majority of voters can see he would be almost as bad as bush which is pretty bad. he will never ever be president because although there are plenty of ignorant idiots enough people have learned a hard lesson in the last eight years thank goodness!

  90. mr.blank says – reply to this

No matter what anyone thinks good or bad about this guy.
He's the only one running with any sort of opinion or belief
so either way its good that somebody running for leader of the free world knows what freedom of speech is.

  91. ann says – reply to this

Good for him! Gays so immoral and gross.

  92. Staycie says – reply to this

I dislike Huckabee, but I thought his answers were very good. Perez, just because he has different views than you doesn't mean that he is stupid. His answers were well-thought out and very professional. Come on, give him some credit…

  93. Natalie says – reply to this

    Re: Lynn

You have lost it! The only anti-christ is the bigot you have created in your own mind. No one can stop abortion. Before it was legal, back alley abortions were popular. Think before you speak, child. People who make a choice like abortion (which I don't agree with on a personal level, but politically agree with pro-choice) should have the fetus used for science. It could save LIVES! Would you sacrifice the life of your husband or child because you didn't agree with someone else's choice?

  94. rjp3 says – reply to this

Some bigot on here said he was elequent — so was Hitler.
Tools like you would have fallen in line with Hitlers elequent lies.

  96. BACKFIRED says – reply to this

this submit kind of BACKFIRED in your face eh Perez?

  97. Sergio says – reply to this

Ok, so I think that yes, Huckabee's pretty much a major idiot for the whole "no gay marriage" deal. I actually laughed when he mentioned the homosexual "lifestyle choice".

But his views on evolutioon in the public school system are pretty good. I mean, don't get me wrong, I believe in evolution and I know the theory forward and backward, but I like the fact that he agrees that it's HIS job, along with other parents, to teach their kids the religious beliefs they want instilled in them AT HOME and not rely on the the schools to teach religious beliefs.

    But anyway, TEAM HILLARY!

  98. Jenn says – reply to this

What a retard! He has no chance…although Bush got elected TWICE, so who knows anymore!

  99. whythehate says – reply to this

Why the hate Perez? Did he say he hated gays? Did he say gays couldn't work with him? Did he say that an individual cannot live as they want? NOOOOOOOOOO! He didn't say anything hateful toward any human being.
He opposes same sex marriage. SO WHAT!? Would you rather him be dishonest about his opinions like so many other candidtates?
    Stop being hater!
