Filed under: Gay Gay Gay > Tyra Banks > Mike Huckabee

Our favorite* Republican presidential hopeful, Mike Huckabee, was on Tyra's talk show talking about the gays and same sex marriage.

I mean, really…I'm in a almost 7 year relationship with someone I love of the same sex…and even I don't believe in same sex marriage. I believe in pro-creation, but I also think the world is overpopulated. Boutique homosexuality is absurd, vulguar, and just plain stupid. People do it because they think it's cool, and because they like the way it feels. That's what gets on my nerves. People die because they're gay, why abuse it by mocking it for a few days/months/years? I don't like seeing two men together. Now I'm to the poiint where I don't like seeing 2 women together. I am an indecisive hypocrite, and it's OK with me for now.

Yeah, I'm absolutely sure that he was simply being diplomatic here, because from what I've read he's pretty fucking insane.
That said, I dunno, he comes across as not unreasonable in his views in this interview. He seems more "old-fashioned" than right wing nut job here…
And the fact that I'm typing this right now makes me absolutely afraid of him, because he had me buying his story for a second there…

gays people need to be treated equally, strait people are not a step above homosexuals. by having different rights, such as the right to marry, america is encouraging homophobia and the unjust class system that is so obvious in today's society.
giving people different rights for any reason is unacceptable. "separate but equal" clearly does not work, America has instated equal rights between races, the next step is between homosexuals and heterosexuals. although america is still not where it needs to be in regards to racial discrimination we are a lot farther along than we were fifty years ago.
having equal laws promotes equality in all aspects of life. taking steps towards an accepting, and loving future is the most important thing america needs to do these days.

WOW I'm impressed with his rhetoric, if he believes it. I'm not anti gay, I like'em, but face it, its not the NORM, it's not. SORRY. Two men anally F-ing each other w/ shit on their dick is NOT normal. Evolution? IT'S FAR FROM FACT A-Z. It's a theory! It has BIG holes in it. There's room for GOD. Huckabee, never will be Pres, but I LIKE HIM, he's moderate. He's a Christian w/ love not hate, like most Republicans claim. So shut up and read a book.

I agree 100% with "make learn to disagree without making it personal and Mike Huckabee. He in no way attacked someone for being homosexual. He simply stated how he felt about it when asked the question. I believe that is the beauty of a free country. He obviously has not made decisions on a person due to their sexuality considering he has gay people working for him and they SUPPORT him. Go figure. He is probably one of the least judgemental and full of character kind of person and straight up, he didn't dodge the question unlike others who would have just told you what you wanted to hear to get their vote. He states we are all equal. That is what this country is about.!!!!!

Um excuse me, but what was wrong with his statements? He doesn't entirely share your views Perez? Come on, he handled that eloquently and honestly, very admirable. He's a pastor for goodness sake, what did you expect? He doesn't bash homosexuals in any way AT ALL. At least he was honest. That's the most refeshing thing I've heard a candidate say in a very long time. I love you Perez, but don't become blind and dumb because it's expected that you should hate this man simply because your gay and he's republican.

Mike Huckabee isn't a bad guy, he has his views and many Americans do agree with him. We shouldn't call him names because of his convictons, just agree to disagree with him. He is not mean and America could do a whole lot worse. He's better then most Republicans. And I think he is the new Campbell Soup guy…looks just like him…

  46. carlos d. says – reply to this
    46

WOW! I hated this guy and thought he had zero education until I saw this. I'm not even Republican, but I would consider voting for him if he had the chance. He is absolutely correct and the example of love that most christians do represent. It is just sad that the media (including you perez, and I am a HUGE fan of yours) portrarys all Christians as weirdos and hate on them. Nobody says anything about that, but if we started condemning Muslim or other religions, it would be considered intolerable. He did NOT even comdemn being gay. . . I grew up Baptist and my church also was this way. It is only the media that has portrayed the "crazy" Christians in that light and has made the general public believe all Christians are that way, when it is quite opposite. Look at Lakewood Church!

Nice to hear you have love for all people, Huckleberry Finn. You ain't so bad after all! Maybe in '12!

Sounded fine to me. We're all aloud our opinions right? I don't think he sounded idiotic in his answer, I think it was an honest answer. The best thing about it was that it didn't sound just political, it was honest to the point where it was a personal opinion. If you are a gay man Perez and don't like being persecuted for your beliefs…why put someone else on trial that disagrees with you? Doesn't make your cause any more right.

Perez, I hate to say it, but he said nothing wrong. He made the point that he respects other people's beliefs and opinions, but happens to personally disagree with them…and that is okay.
As for what he said about evolution, I pretty much agree 100% with that. Evolution is extremely fascinating and important, and should be taught in schools. In fact, I'm in a 400 level college course on evolution right now, and I love it. However, if you happen to be a religious person and believe in God's creation of Earth, teach it at home to your family or go to Church to learn it. It should only be taught in schools if the student is in a religion class.

#34 ADDIE says – gays need to be treated equally" Great! but LET straight people have "Marriage". It's an important distinction to some. Two woman or two men, fine, legal "domestic partners", but the WORD Marriage is traditional. Tradition is important. Most big companies have domestic partner benefits anyway, so legally they have the same RIGHTS. Just RESPECT straight people wishes, move on! Militant gays suck. Respect is a two way street. If you can' imagine why shit on dicks makes people uncomfortable than sorry.

I see nothing wrong with what he said. It wasnt stupid at all. He had a very intelligent response to her questions. Maybe you dont agree with his views Perez but it wasnt stupid at all, just like I dont agree with all your views but i dont think your stupid. I dont think he would be the best president but inb no way was what he said stupid or even really wrong, its just his view. In no way did he put down homosexuals he just simply said he doesnt agree with changing the institute of marriage from the way it has always been. I dont agree with him no, but theres nothing stupid about that point of view he has.

I'm bisexual (and no, not to be cool, liked, whatever else these teens may be doing now a days) and I find nothing dumb about what he said. He seems to be an intelligent man and he's just supporting what HE thinks is right. Being pro gay marriage isnt wrong, being anti gay marriage isnt wrong.

Don't hate someone because their opinion is different than yours. Just like you shouldnt dislike someone because they are gay. Marriage is a religious ceremony…if you're not religious, why would you want to get married? O.o

  53. Jay says – reply to this
    53

Oh and the evolution thing, I dont think evolution should be taught as the absolute answer. Creationism has been aroud longer than the theory of evolution. Thats what it is too a theory, both are, teach them as such. Both the same, as a theory. Dont teach children at public schools anything other than that they are both theorys that way everyone will be happy, let them learn at home what their parents want them to believe, and taught at school the different ideas as to how things came to be.

  54. lee says – reply to this
    54

I'm not a fan of Huckabee's, he kind of scares me but his responses were diplomatic - he is a republican, after all - I don't agree with him, he says he supports marriage between two people who want to have children, although they might not be able to - I know what he means, but don't gay people fall into that category - Straight people can marry and either not be able to conceive OR not want to have children OR want to adopt so why can't gay people marry whether they want to have children (by surrogate or adoption) or not - Not all gay people want to marry just like not all straight people want to marry but shouldn't they have the choice - I just don't know what people are trying to accomplish by denying others the right to choose how to live their lives - how is it impacting you? - you're not going to stop homosexuality by denying it exists or by suppressing their freedoms - homosexuality has existed from the beginning and will always exist - you don't have to agree with their lifestyle but I don't know why people can't accept it -

Re: Kelly – Are you crazy?? How can you be against something you represent? You are no better than people who discriminate against their own race. I'm pretty sure that people who are gay do not choose to be gay because it is "cool" they are because that is how they feel. You are an abomination and an embarrassment and if you are so "indecisive" then maybe you should reconsider your own sexual orientation before you go preach against it!!!

That was the best I have ever heard him speak aside from his funny gig on SNL. I 100% agree with him. He wasn't saying it in a way to put anyone down but that that is how he believes. I too agree but as for same sex mattiage I always have said just give it a new name. Call it unionship and yes go ahead and yes have the state recognize it just as they would a marriage. That's the only way I see as a compromise.

The fundamental flaw in his logic is that he's viewing homosexuality as a choice or lifestyle, when it's a biological fact. People are born gay, society and parental nurturing may shape how they express it, but it's there. Sad that some people refuse to accept that fact.
