It's just not fair that these popular bands keep doing this, because it is devaluing music. NIN and other bands that have been around a long time can do this because they will make millions from touring, but for any of us new bands it screws us over. Because now the fans are like if NIN or some other famous band is giving away their music who does this new band think they are to charge us for an album. Musician work ssuper hard to put together an album and people just download it for free, and then complain if tickets are priced a little higher for a concert.

These bands think they are saving music, but they are only saving themselves and other bands that have had their success. Any new artist is screw on either end. With a label or going independent.

I bought and downloaded it last night..it's fantastic music if you like instrumental, play it loud, driving music. Good stuff.
He will totally make some money off this because of how loyal his fan base is.
The fact the site crashed so quickly last night shows that..most of those folks are the die hard fans that knew something was coming. That's not even touching your "average" fan that doesn't follow nin.com's site updates.

Actually only the first 9 tracks will be available for download for free, if you pay $5 you can get the whole 36 track Album. And then they go from there… go to the Ghosts.nin.com website and that will give you more information.

Radiohead did it first and it is STILL the most played album, according to last.fm. In Rainbows has CONSISTENTLY been the top ten most played tracks (there are only ten tracks on the album) SINCE IT'S INTERNET RELEASE. It's still in the top played college stations according to Rolling Stone. And Radiohead is way better than NIN will ever be, ever. Thom Yorke & Associates are fucking GENIUSES.

Who cares if some of the Radiohead songs were pre-released? At least they listened to their fans, took them into the studio, did them the right way, then re-released a better version.

- This album was produced by the NIN crew, not just TR, so "*is* giving" applies here
- Radiohead released "In Rainbows" in Oct-2007 where you *choose* the price
- TR & Saul Williams released "The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!" for $5 *or* _free_ Nov-2007
- TR actually evolves as a musician… not just rehashing the same tripe as written by a bunch of hired songwriters (*cough, Britney Spears, cough*)
- TR's work has been ripped-off by numerous Corporations for his groundbreaking work (McDonalds & The Fragile artwork, Cheetos & Year Zero ARG)
… but, I doubt these facts will influence many people based on the previous comments/general feel of this particular website…

Wow, nothing is wrong with the files. You probably are incapable of operating a simple download correctly, or don't realize the issues involved from thousands of people trying to download from one site all at once. Trent Reznor has done a beautful thing. He originally planned on making a small EP, but kept creating and creating his instrumental tracks, and offered them as a gift to his fans. The first 9 tracks are free to download, but you have more options as well. I paid $10 for a one time download of the complete 36 tracks, and will recieve the 2-disc set at the end of April. In my opinion, the tracks are great…obviously not ment to be listened to in one sitting (although I did). It took forever to go through, and I was afraid the site would crash, but eventually I got it. There isn't any spyware involved, so try to avoid ignorant assholes posting b.s., although that's a hard task to accomplish.

First, instrumentals are some the most beloved music of all time, guess Tchaicovsky sucked because there were no lyrics and now through domain rights is completely free. Also, TR released Year Zero on both myspace and nin.com, just not as a download, before your precious one hit wonders Radiohead decided to sell their album online before the official release date. Also, I do not see Radiohead launching a site allowing the fans to dowload, remix, and make available any of there music for free. You can download all of Downward Spiral or Broken in some form or fashion for free at ninremix.com. I don't see any other bands letting people take their music and putting their twist on something that they love as well and be actively involved with it. Get a life you f-ers and admit you do not know what you are talking about. NIN is Trent Reznor, Trent Rezno is NIN!

Who cares if Radiohead tried the online thing first? NIN is now off a label so Trent's putting out his music directly to fans w/o interference and bullshit from a record label. Plus, the music is way cheaper this way! Um, Awesome! I mean come on $5 for a double album? That's nothing! He's trying out a different distribution model, similar to what he did for the Saul Williams album, it seems to be working fantastically. This is not the same as radioheads download. with radiohead you got their whole album and got to choose to pay nothing. with this you get some tracks for nothing-but if you want the whole album you have to pay so its not the same. personally i'd rather go to the record shop and buy the albums-i dont trust downloading it-what if your computer crashes halfway through? does that mean u gotta pay AGAIN?!?!?!?

Actually, Perez, Trent isn't giving the album away. There are 4 volumes, he is only giving ONE away, the rest one must buy ($5 to download, $10 to download and have a physical copy sent to you, etc..)

If you use the official download link it has no spyware etc. If you download it from someone else its your own stupid fault. As a mac user it worked perfectly first time. Pay for the $5 get the whole 36 tracks don't pay for it you only get the first 9. Simple.
