Disney is going 3-D cahh-raa-zee!

We reported last week that the mouse house is planning to do Step Up 3 in 3-D.

Now, new reports are circulating that the studio plans to release a 3-D sequel to its classic sci-fi movie Tron in 2011.

Now THAT is a movie we'd much rather see in 3-D!

The original Tron was released in 1982. The sequel will, without a doubt, be so much better than the orig!

Technology has come a long way since 1982.

Disney supposedly has Cars 2, National Treasure 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 4 scheduled for release in 2011.

They don't have any interest in releasing new ORIGINAL material!

      The original was a classic, and had more special effects of the era than anything they could pump into the movie now.

      Tron was a fantastic film and at the time made groundbreaking steps in the field of Special Effects. It still holds up incredibly well with age too. It'd be interesting to see a re-make but the original was very impressive for its time.

      Hey now - the effects in the original TRON still hold up today. I'd go as far as to say that it belongs up there with 2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY for not only being groundbreaking when it was released, but also holding up as one of the best special effects movies ever! Bring it on!

      you might want to check your facts for Pirates 4… Keira already said she would not sign on for another. Ted and Terry (the writers) have said in numerous interviews that Elizabeth Swan is the protagonist of the trilogy so without her you have no movie. Ted and Terry are also known for going on location for the filming of their scripts. Did I mention they wrote all of the pirates movies as well as the first two national treasures? So to have two movies written by the same people, being filmed around the same time, with scripts that are not even created yet, expecting to be released in the summer of 2011 is extremely unlikely…. and disney just updated the ride in the parks. Not happening. (I do love those movies though and they deserved the that oscar this year!!!)

      Cars 2? Why would they make a sequel of their worst
      revieved Pixar movie? Why not Finding Nemo 2?

      I don't think the Pirates thing is true. Keira says she doesn't want to do the movies anymore….Last I heard, Kate Winslet would be replacing her. The ending of 3 opens it up for the possibility of a fourth, but it may just be too much of a good thing. I hope they make it though, if it's going to be good!!

      Dinsey has plans for 2 original movies in 2009, The Frog Princess, which will feature the first Black Disney Princess, and Rapunzel, which will have another new Princess.
      Research before you make claims next time.

      tron is amazing. if you watch clips on youtube it has aged very well…it was the first cgi film EVER! I hope they don't screw it up with a sequel because it needs to be left alone in it's original glory. ;)

      Well, Disney is going to go after what makes the most money. I work at the Disney store, and I know for a fact that pirates and cars merchandise sells extremely well (cars sells better than POTC, though). Disney has a LOT of girly movies that they might want to level the playing field and be able to reach out to the younger boys as well. It's also helping that they're releasing older movies that are loved by both genders (such as 101 Dalmatians right now). While I probably won't see Cars 2, I'll probably see POTC4 and maybe National Treasure 3 (nothing is as good as the original)…You couldn't stop me from seeing Tron 2 though, hahaha. The first one has starman in it, and the 2nd one better have him too.
