Omg! Patrick Stewart is an amazing stage actor! I saw him 2 years ago in London for a one man production of A Christmas Carol. I went into it not expecting much, but he blew me away. He was able to play dozens of characters, all with different voices and body language! And, I got to meet him after the show. He was such a sweet man. I think he'll be fab in Macbeth. Don't talk shit about him, Perez! :-)

I was so excited to see PS in The Roundabout Theatre's production of The Caretaker on Broadway. After the show a very, very elderly man hobbled to the stage to ask for Mr. Stewart;s autograph. PS sneered at him and rudely blew him off. I've not been a fan ever since. So sad.

      38

Good for Patrick. He is an amazing actor and though I have not had the pleasure of seeing him on stage, I can tell from movies and TV appearences he has a very strong stage pressence. And RK and CoClo, Shakespere and theater are wondeful and only oh I don't wnat to say uneducated twerps, but it is the only thing I can think of, would say that about the two greatest things on earth.
Patrick is a great Shakeperean actor, it is his true love.

Yo Perez, look beyond the USA for a bit. Patrick is not "returning" to the theatre, in Britain he's been doing nothing else for at least a year! He's enjoyed wide acclaim for his Macbeth in 2007 and has obviously now decided to let the USA enjoy the same show. Nice one Patrick!

      44

umm, he is saying bwahaha because

      1) you are not supposed to say "macbeth" before a show… it is bad luck

Perez, you are obviously unaware so please permit me to educate you (and I thought gay people were supposed to be smart). Patrick Stewart is a trained Shakespearian actor. This is why he was so good in Star Trek. The Dude has some serious skills.

he is already doing this performance in New York and the Brooklyn Museme of Arts, it is quite good, I saw it on Wed. If your in NY you should go check it out. It is a modern version of the play, well worth seeing.

He played this role in London a couple of months ago and was fantastic. Hopefully they'll keep the same production (it was set in the WWII era with the witches as nurses and all in 40s military garb) as it was really engaging and definately creepy. He's a fab actor, definately a play to go see!!

    64. Hannah says – reply to this

      64

I went to see Patrick Stewart in Macbeth recently in London at the Duke of York's theatre and it was AMAZING! I am a great fan of Shakespeare but it was a much scarier, darker and more modern interpritation of the play and I recommend that if you get the chance you go and see it!! xxxxxxx

    65. thatdog says – reply to this

      65

Just saw this at BAM as well. They took a new approach to the setting and everything…takes place in roughly, '40s Stalinist Russia…they have moved the action of the play to the kitchen of Macbeth Castle as well as a morgue, and then other locations, care of innovative video and sound techniques. When a production of Macbeth actually imbues it with the dread, foreboding and overall creepiness that the Bard I'm sure intended…I'd say, it's a success. And PS kicked ass, but the rest of the cast was top notch and filled with Royal Shakespearean Company actors as well.

    66. Brilliant actor ... says – reply to this

      66

… and even more brilliant when he does Shakespeare. Can't wait to see it! Perhaps you should check it out, Perez. The education of seeing a play by Shakespeare, not to mention a real actor act, might do you some good.

      67

He's laughing because he said "good luck" and that's bad luck in theatre. Also, no one has done Macbeth in AGES, you're not even supposed to say the name in the theatre. There's a huuuuuge supersition within the drama community, DUH! It's called "the Scottish play".

The RSC came before Star Trek for Patrick Stewart, in fact it's part of why he got the gig as Captain Picard.

Patrick Stewart will be appearing in an RSC production of Hamlet alongside David "Doctor Who" Tennant this year in Stratford Upon Avon.
