Buffy's Gay! (Or at least a little bit curious.)
Buffy Summers, best known as the vampire slayer, is now experimenting with women.
In a new issue of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic book series being released Wednesday, Buffy sleeps with a fellow vampire slayer, who just happens to be a woman.
That's really rare in mainstream comics, especially for a lead character.
Joss Whedon, the creator of the film, television show, and executive producer of the comic book said the story line evolved naturally.
Issue No. 12 was written by Drew Goddard, who's the screenwriter of Cloverfield. In this series, Buffy and her female friend are in bed and naked under the sheets.
“It puts the reader in this ‘Oh my God’ moment,” Whedon said during a telephone interview with The NY Times. “And it puts Buffy in an ‘Oh my God, what did I just do?’ moment.”
Whedon made sure to mention that “We’re not going to make her gay, nor are we going to take the next 50 issues explaining that she’s not. She’s young and experimenting, and did I mention open-minded? You do have to be careful about the message you’re sending out. It’s a double-edged sword. You have to be responsible, but you also have to be irresponsible or you’re not telling the best stories.”
If only we could have seen Sarah Michelle Gellar do that! HOT!

1. to all of you saying the original buffy was better- suck it. it was a cute, campy, shitty movie and kristy swanson can't and never could act. that said, SMG absolutely OWNED buffy and still does.

Wow this issue really has polarized people, now it seems joss is a fanboy who went to far with publicity stunts, a racist, anti-gay because he might kill off another character who had one sleep with a girl, corrupting the young, jumping the shark, you name it I have read it all in reply to this issue. Out of all the things that Buffy has done and we have seen on Buffy this one is the one that causes the most controversy apparently. And it seems that Buffy isn't allowed to be a creation of the jossverse, now people really feel that Buffy is out of character and that the writers are writing badfic! Although this is no surprise because it seemed that angry viewers had a field day ever since season 7 aired.
I can't say I agree with any of those things, I think its safe to say we aren't looking at the comic the same way and we certianly have different views on joss and co.

I can't believe that after Buffy and Spike having such a hurtful depressing arc together and Buffy sleeping with Vampires, having a one night stand with Parker and having her boyfriend go evil and having to kill him, killing people and coming back from the dead several times that her most defining moment is being reduced down to one experience with Satsu in an arc that hasn't even begun to play out fully yet by people all over the net. I don't find Buffy to be gay either, she's just Buffy and she's allowed to have a fluid sexuality or a one nighter if thats what the writers want to progress their arc but its not like its out of the blue, there was all that subtext in season 3 and beyond with Faith which was well documented in Petries DVD commentaries and there was a scripted kiss in the shooting script that never got shot, so its not really all that shocking at all.
If you read Joss's interviews on the matter I think it brings a lot more clarity to season 8 and this ep in general. Sure its a different medium and the pacing is different so some people think its OOC or out of the blue, but within the context of the whole of Buffy it makes sense. I really don't think the man needs a ratings grab either, its one of the best selling comics already, google the figures and you will see this!

The entire show is based off the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, which didn't do nearly as well as the show. I certainly hope there's another movie but the cast is probably sick of vampire and garlic by now.
It did evolve pretty well, but I still didn't expect it. But who knows how many MEN Buffy's slept with? The tv series showed her with 4 guys (two of which were single sexual encounters, although not intended to be so on her part), but she could easily have been boinking more and more between season 7 and season 8. Also important to remember, though, what she said in the first issue of the comic– "I miss sex." Ummm Buffy was horny. Satsu was in love with her and MORE than willing. They were both afraid of the new Big Bad, needing someone to take care of them– so they boinked. And it was tied together all very nicely.
