Last week, CBS threw a huge and elaborate party in New York for the 20th Anniversary of 48 Hours, which after 60 Minutes, is the network's longest running program.
The party included such people as CBS's chairman, CBS News' president, and 48 Hours' executive producer.
However, noticeably absent from the soiree was none other than the ORIGINAL anchor of 24 years, Dan Rather. Ouch!
Rather helped start the show in 1986 with the pilot 48 Hours on Crack Street and also urged the network to air the show on a weekly schedule.
According to reports, 48 Hours exec producer, Susan Zirinsky, phoned Rather before the event to let him know he would not be allowed to the party, under any circumstances.
Why the snub????
As you may recall, Rather, who left CBS in 2006, filed a $70 million lawsuit in September 2007 against the network, its former parent company Viacom, and three of his former bosses, alleging fraud against CBS. He claims he was forced out of his anchor job at CBS Evening News during the whole scandal with the alleged forged documents used in Rather's 2004 60 Minutes report of President Bush's National Guard Service.
Guess CBS must still be mad about getting sued! Let's see who wins that case.

Dan Rather should have been fired. He lied and then he filed a frivolous lawsuit. It takes a lot of "courage" to ask for $70 million after you intentionally fabricated a lie and ran the story near the end of a political campaign. Dan Rather is a traitor and a liar.

I get CBS not inviting him, but Dan has decades of work. Everyone knows Dan/60m/prime time news. The RIGHT WING hates him because he's the main stream media. Yea he F-ed up by biting on the "Killian documents", critical of Bush's military service before 2004. Too good to check? Was Dan set up? Conservative blogs (Free Republic, radical or aggressive conservative group) disputed it within hours of the segment airing? That is weird??

So, Dan Rather = MSM (Main Stream Media), but with HIS OWN mind. Is there anything bad about that? NO, its actually great! We regular people NEED a voice inside the MSM. Because as Jay Leno said, "If it bleeds, it leads", would that equate the Everyday news to entertainment? Where does one go to get actual news, not "fluff" wrapped up and presented and sold to us as tangible news.
I grew up watching Dan Rather on the news. As soon as he left I turned it to Brian Williams. I miss Dan and have always like his choice of words, especially during the elections. He made it seem like you were watching a football game or something. BRING HIM BACK!
