Portman On Clinton

Filed under: Politik > Barack Obama > Hillary Clinton > Natalie Portman

wenn5096443.jpg

Natalie Portman's graces the cover of the new issue of Elle, and instead of just hawking her new movie, the socially-conscious star also talks politics.

When asked about the way Americans have responded to Hillary Clinton's campaign, Portman responded:

"A lot of the stuff people say about her, I hear it and my stomach falls because it's so sexist. You ask people why they don't like her and it's because her husband cheated on her! That was obviously not her choice. She's so much more polished and experienced than anyone else. Last night, a friend, a social worker in L.A. who works with underprivileged kids, was saying how these girls who have never been interested in politics before are so excited that a woman might be president. I mean, look how many women are in government…Hillary's one of, what, [a handful of] female senators?"

And to not leave Barack Obama out, Portman continued:

"I also like Obama. I even like McCain. I disagree with his war stance—which is a really big deal—but I think he's a very moral person. I met him and Hillary on the same day, actually, when I went to Washington with Finca [a nonprofit that gives loans to businesswomen in developing countries]. Hillary was by far the smartest person I met that day. Just totally focused, and knew more about the issues than anyone else, and was so able to go from one thing to the other."

NatPort's so politically correct and proper. Can't help but love her!

I give Natalie alot of credit, but she doesn't have the facts. The reason people dislike Hillary is not because her husband cheated on her. The reason we dislike her is because of her reaction to her husband cheating on her. Any self-respecting woman would have kicked that ape to the curb. How can I respect her when she doesn't respect herself?

Well, as much as I prefer Obama over Clinton, I have to admit that Natalie Portman is (one of a few?) women in Hollywood who are both intelligent, beautiful, and put together.

    30

Natalie Portman, Melissa Joan Hart, Keira Knightley, Brooke Shields, LeAnn Rimes, Resse Witherspoon… these are all women who started in showbiz at an early ageand have a way of sending the right message to young girls. You can be smart and pretty and socially responsible. The Mischa's, Britney's, Paris', LoHans should drop out of the spotlight!

  31. Chiley says – reply to this

    31

If Americans really want change then you should vote for Hillary……A. She’s a women which would give a different aspect on how the world views the US and how she would view politics. B. She is the most experienced…remember that the world not only just the Middle East dislikes America due to Bush. And I think if you vote for Obama with his inexperience and his double dealings (regarding NAFTA) the world will continue to dislike (hate) America.

And I believe that Obama has a really good speach writer, so don't get swayed be his words because words are just words.

    33

I Love her Brain above all. She very articulate. I do believe "WE" USA deserves to send a message that a woman is capable of being assertive, strong and be able to command just like a man. A praise Hillary, she has stand up and decided be the first woman to be challenged by general public not only the other candidates and she has proven over and over she's more quallify than the rest of the candidates. More power to her for being the leader and standing up. Hillary is our voice.

  34. andrea says – reply to this

awesome. Honestly, although I'm in support of McCain, I have to say…the democratic party has two strong candidates. I mean, I heard Barack speak at my school not too long ago, and he just speaks so eloquently and his campaign truly defines change. Buttttt…I have to agree, Hillary is an incredibly smart woman, who like McCain, has the experience and knowledge to lead this country more than Barack. And so, I guess if I were a democrat, she would def be the wiser choice.

shut up, natalie! If a woman is with a man who cheated on her–and, mind you, it wasn't one time–and this happens again and again, I have to wonder about the woman who is married to this guy! Is she a dyke? Who knows? Who cares? The point is, she and her husband have no morals whatsoever, and the mere thought of the U.S. as a people having to look at her decayed face for 4 (or more) years and her absolute zero morals makes me want to heave. And who cares what you think, Portman? I don't go to you for your poiltico saavy (or lack of). You take me to that magical land of fantasy and to live and dream and have the feelings that I am too scared or not mature enough to face.

Most people deserve a second chance - everybody makes mistakes once in their lives - and if they aren't given a second chance how can you learn from them?

    53

The reason Natalie is so articulate, polished, refined, intelligent, …. so many positive attributes is because she has an Ivy League education and she has put it to really good use, unlike other people that even though they went to an Ivy League school cannot get their "guetto upbringing" out of their system. Natalie is a great role model to young women and I admire her for expressing her views is such a politically correct frame of mind. It bothers me that Senator Clinton is criticized for not leaving her husband; that is not the solution if both partners agree to work out their marital problems. It's a very personal decision and nobody really knows what happens between 2 people; it's their business. I ultimately admire her a lot more for being able to work through that crisis and become a true survivor, a fighter … she rocks!!!!

  54. YumYum says – reply to this

    54

No- it was hillary's choice to STAY. And then bad mouth the other women as BIMBOS and to say she wasn't like those women who stayed home like in a "Tammy Wynette" song and put up with a cheating husband- and she insulted EVERY woman on the planet by appearing superior. She NEVER apologized for that. Bill didn't do that part of it- Bill didn't insult every housewife and woman- hillary did. Guess Portman doesn't know about things like Whitewater. Or how Hillary has undermined Bill's "bimbos" and threatened them and sent people to intimidate them. Hillary is ruthless. RUTHLESS. Good luck with that. Portman was a small child during the Clinton fiasco. She only knows what she hears and sees NOW. But frankly, if it's between Hillary and the man raised in foreign Muslim countries like Indonsia until the age of 12 with a wife ashamed to be an American, the Nobama, i would take Hillary every time. Don't kid yourself though. The democrats have two crap candidates to choose from. Obama is a bunch of words and AIR. You can even SEE him drift off into his imagination. He is chairman of a war OVERSIGHT committee and never even cared enough to hold a damn meeting! Jeez- WAKE UP America!

  55. Hillry's tax return's estimated at 50 million says – reply to this

    55

That comment is a prime example of what's wrong with this country at the moment. Politics is being viewed as entertainment. It is not.
Hilllary's nothing but a ball of white privilege and entitlement wrapped up in a blanket of victimhood and agrievement.

Hillary's tax return is estimated at 50 million. Good thing she's held onto them. She needed to tell Ohio about how she feels their pain. How she's one of them.

WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton won't catch Barack Obama in the race for Democratic delegates chosen in primaries and caucuses, even if she wins every remaining contest.

But Obama cannot win the nomination with just his pledged primary and caucus delegates either, according to an analysis by The Associated Press.

That sets the stage for a pitched battle for support among "superdelegates," the party and elected officials who automatically attend the convention and can support whomever they choose.

Two months into the voting, Obama can claim the most delegates chosen by voters.

Clinton can claim victories in most of the big states.

Get informed for yourself and for your children future.

She is so smart and classy. Why can't other actresses act as intelligently as her? Here is someone who is not trying to be photographed every time she goes to a restaurant or shopping, but is socially conscious and actually believes in the issues she is supporting.

She is one of the most talented actresses today and builds her reputation on talent and smarts and not her body as certain other "actresses".

  69. Miss Portman needs to get her head out of her Hollywood Ass says – reply to this

    69

People don't like Hillary because she is an opportunitist who will do ANYTHING to get her way. Her & Bill have a long list of scandals.
    - The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance
    - Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates*
    - Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation
    - Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify
    - Most number of witnesses to die suddenly
    - First president sued for sexual harassment.
    - First president accused of rape.
    - First first lady to come under criminal investigation
    - Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case
    - First president to establish a legal defense fund.
    - First president to be held in contempt of court
    - Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions
    - Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad
    - First president disbarred from the US Supreme Court and a state court
***I don't think Miss Portman sounds intelligent at all. Her whole reasoning is cause Clinton was nice to her and seemed really really smart! That is VERY lame. She needs to do her research.

So in a couple of minutes, she figured out who had the most knowledge? Really? let's see, McCain has been in Congress as a rep or senator for 26 YEARS and is the only one to have been in the military, let alone a POW. Hillary was a horrible first lady who ruined health care reform and has been in congress for one term and just started a second one. Obama was raised in Indonesia until he was a teenager, and is a first termer. No matter who you support, you can't honestly believe that a woman who was first lady of Arkansas and the USA knows more than a congressman of 26 years? Obama isn't even in that picture! It's like making the mail clerk in your business the CEO.

It is very irresponsible of them AND the people who actually listen to the crap they spew. Even you, Perez. Celebrities need to butt-out of the political arena entirely. You can support them with your un-godly huge and ridiculous paychecks, but do us a favor and shut your mouths. We don't want to hear your propaganda. We hear it enough from the candidates.

I agree that people are sexist in regards to Mrs. Clinton. However, I think some people have a hard time articulating that they perhaps do not like that after she had been cheated on she forgave her husband. It's not that she is weak for being cheated on, she is weak for staying with Bill for political gain. NOW OBVIOUSLY I HAVE NO IDEA if this is true or what her "real motives" are, I am just vocalizing a perception some people have. And Natalie Portman rules!

Exactly. It's sad, I really like Natalie Portman but this statement is full of holes. It's sexist to think she would be bad at president just because she's female, but it's not sexist to mention that some poor homeless girls are ONLY interested in politics because a female could become president??? What?!? It should be based on her knowledge and skills, NOT just cuz she's female.

i fucking hate people who bring up Bills affair. its SO DAMN IRRELEVANT towards whats going on now. That was what, 10 years ago. people need to get the fuck over it.

I like Hillary a lot. but I'm also madly in love with Obama. Either way, I think we'll have a fabulous new president; and I hope McCain won't be too much of a threat.

I'm glad she thinks the general public cares about her political opinion. I would still vote for Obama over Clinton anyday. She always TALKS about this 35 years of experience she supposedly has. Experience doing what?? You idiots just accept everything she says, and you run with it. She is just more of the same.

I'm surprised people still went out and voted for her after she made a damn fool of herself at the last debate. All she did was whine and complain the whole time. If she is as "ready on day 1" as she claims, she would have just answered the question, without being catty. She is as crazy and delusional as she wants to be. No way in hell the Democrats will win, if she's the nominee.

    Obama '08!!!!!!!!!!!

"I will fight every moment of every day in this campaign to make sure Americans are not deceived by an eloquent but empty call for change that promises no more than a holiday from history and a return to the false promises and failed policies of a tired philosophy that trusts in government more than people."

Women are ALOT smarter when they use their mouth to suck and then fuck. Nobody wants to hear what women have to say.
