Portman On Clinton
Natalie Portman's graces the cover of the new issue of Elle, and instead of just hawking her new movie, the socially-conscious star also talks politics.
When asked about the way Americans have responded to Hillary Clinton's campaign, Portman responded:
"A lot of the stuff people say about her, I hear it and my stomach falls because it's so sexist. You ask people why they don't like her and it's because her husband cheated on her! That was obviously not her choice. She's so much more polished and experienced than anyone else. Last night, a friend, a social worker in L.A. who works with underprivileged kids, was saying how these girls who have never been interested in politics before are so excited that a woman might be president. I mean, look how many women are in government…Hillary's one of, what, [a handful of] female senators?"
And to not leave Barack Obama out, Portman continued:
"I also like Obama. I even like McCain. I disagree with his war stance—which is a really big deal—but I think he's a very moral person. I met him and Hillary on the same day, actually, when I went to Washington with Finca [a nonprofit that gives loans to businesswomen in developing countries]. Hillary was by far the smartest person I met that day. Just totally focused, and knew more about the issues than anyone else, and was so able to go from one thing to the other."

Many of her relatives died in the Holocaust, she is a citizen of Israel, and she has portrayed Ann Frank on the stage. Yet she had no qualms about supporting John Kerry for President in '04…a man who, upon returning from Vietnam 35 years ago, proceeded to head the movement to pull U.S. troops out of Vietnam, claiming that the Communists wouldn't do anything bad once the U.S. was out. Once U.S. troops left, all hell broke loose, of course. In the 2 years following the U.S. retreat, about 4 million people died horribly in south east Asia. More people died in the 2 years following the U.S. pullout than in the entire 14 years of U.S. bombing.
Natalie supported a holocaust-enabler, Kerry, when it was politically convenient for her to do so. Shame on her.

McCain would keep pursuing the Bush Agenda & has no qualms about the Iraq War, or that the adminstration lied to the American people about their intelligence. Clinton supported the war too, (Natalie made the point that McCain supporting the war was a 'big deal', so why let Clinton off the hook?) As far as Israel & Palestine, the American people need to push for a 2-state solution to the conflict and push for peace, from both sides. I support Obama for many reasons. He wants to act on the AIDS epidemic, and the Genocide in Darfur, and has already passed legislation on it. His GLBT stance is far more progressive than Clinton's. Also, he wants to fix our social security system so that we can all retire with dignity, & decrease taxes for low-income elderly people, as well as deal with the home-mortgage crisis and the economy. He was outspoken & active when dealing with the Katrina diaster & has more years in elective office than Clinton. Further, I think a candidate's character and voting record speaks more to their intelligence and expertise than "experience". Clinton was mistaken with her Iraq War vote. While Obama would use dimplomacy first, and only use military force when the intelligence was there to back it up, or to defend the nation- thereby following intl law. Congress sent our troops to war without checking the facts first, shame on them. We must hold Clinton accountable for her vote, while she has taken it back, it is too little too late.
