Reality Goes Royal

What's the world coming to?
A royal has now jumped on the reality bandwagon!
This summer, the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, will 'star' in a two-part show called The Duchess in Hull on UK's ITV channel.
The original Fergie will follow a family of seven as they struggle with their waistlines on the Preston Road 'Estate', located in one of the poorest areas of England.
Estate (England) = Projects (U.S.).
That sounds fun and all, but why can't we watch the younger royals getting drunk and dancing on tables???? We'd rather watch that!
The Weight Watchers ambassador promised to use her experience of “eating disorders, low self-esteem, family conflict, financial crisis, divorce and bereavement” to help familes on the 'estate' to improve their lifestyle.
Fergie is quoted as saying, “I do like being with people at street level, where I feel they accept me as I am.”
In fact, to prove she's 'down', the duchess stays at a guest house popular with truck drivers and dock workers while following the family.
Wonder if the Queen will be watching?????

she is so fab.
heart you perez.
Fergie RULES!! That old queen can go to H*ll..lol
I like Sarah and wish her well. I respect her for trying to make her own way….but she will do a lot for a buck.
The other royals will NOT be watching. (ok…maybe andrew…)
Estate does not equate to projects Perez!
Every cluster of houses is an estate, its like a housing development. You could say some estates were rough or run down or poor but not every estate is like that, you have new estates and estates in good areas. So yeah if all estates meant projects then 90% of the UK live in the projects.
I think you got mixed up with council estates, which are gived to people on low income or who are unemployed.
dont get me wrong i love reality tv, but come on
man, only British people use words like 'bereavement'
Interesting.
FIRST
first
She's hot
I JUST SAW A NEW PICTURE OF MADONNAS NEW VIDEO, & SHE LOOKS AMAZING. IM ALREADY IN LOVE WITH HER NEW LOOK, HER HAIR LOOKS AWESOME. I SAW IT AT DROWNEDMADONNA.COM
yea.. estate can mean anything. it just mean a buch of properties from run-downs to things like Hyde Park and Holland Park where properties cost up to $30m $40m+ .
Talking about Royals and reality, in fact the Queen just did a multi part "documentary" (in fact, it is more like a reality show) on BBC last year. So Fergie is probably behind.
whatever!
heard about this ages ago
this is why the UK laughs at us. She is NOT Duchess of york. She does has some royal blood in her from the fergueson line, but nothing that would give her a title, even Lady.
Re: *whistle* – Actually you're wrong. In England estates (normally) are owned by the council and some of them are not particulary nice places to live. They're certainly not $30 million.
Re: Gemma –
thank you for this gemma! bloody americans :p
@TG: She is the Duchess of York. That is her title. You are a mong.
Also, estate does not automatically equal project. Some estates are well dodgy, but there are housing estates in very nice areas for well off people. Council estate is what you're aiming for here, it means government assisted housing.
Re: liv –
bullshit! every group of streets is pretty much classed as an estate and every town is made up of estates. are you from england? if so i would like to know where this place is you live in which the only estates are council estates!
Sorry Perez, I'm keeping your right here. I'm from Britain. Estate can mean a huge, luxury home with acreage. To describe this housing you should be saying , rundown council estate. That is a totally different meaning and equivalent to the "Projects" - housing schemes in America. Sorry, it's just that I hate to read something so blatently wrong, it annoys me!!
no. the queen took that away from her. She was not born a Duchess. The queen gave her that title after she married Andrew, Duke of York.
but her daughters are still Princess's (real ones)
estate refers to a group of houses in a development. they can be high or low end it does not mean projects. I believe she is now the former duchess of york , i think she was stripped of her title after the divorce
IM FROM ENDLAN AND ESTATE DOES NOT MEAN PROJECTS AT ALL!!! IT COULD ALSO BE FULL OF POSH PEOPLE! AN ESTATE IS JUST A COLLECTION OF HOUSES IN A CERTAIN AREA THATS ALL!
Re: KELLY.B.UK – Re: KELLY.B.UK – IVE JUST NOTICED I CANT SPELL LOL
Council estates are rough, housing estates aren't!
yeah..estate doesn't mean projects, it is a word used to describe housing developments. You should change that..
I met Fergie and she was so nice! I was the assistant to someone she was meeting. She came rigth up to me and shook my hand (which most people dont do with assistants) and introduced herself. She was so sweet.
From what I've seen, the Projects is MUCH worse than the estates over here. But it depends which estate you go to.
Wow. Don't quite know what to think about the reality show (I never watch any of 'em!) but I gotta say: Fergie looks fabulous!
You go, girl.
an estate is not equilvent to projects, a "council estate" is
Once white trash, always white trash.
She's not a royal. She just fucked one at one point….among many others….
Go ahead, girl go head girl get down get down. I ain't sayin she a gold digger,…..
Re: estate does not = project! – I live in London. I know that not all estates are council estates, but obviously the one where Sarah Ferguson is going IS a council estate as it's "located in one of the poorest areas of England" and the family are not very well off. The whole point of this tv programme is to show people how down to earth she is by helping "people at street level".
i live in Hull! how tragic does this story make the city sound. geez.
May I just say she looks fabuuuuulous!
Go Fergie!
ESTATE AS IN ROAD/AVENUE OR WHATEVER YOU AMERICANS CALL THEM DOUCHE BAG
I love this woman!
England is a beautiful country with wonderful people.
I was fortunate enough to have traveled over there many times - first time when I was 11 years old.
As far as I'm concerned she IS royalty and I wish her well in whatever she does!
Re: faye –
I'm from Hull too….. And i agree with you - she'd never survive! Everyone's so bloody rough. (go FC! Down with KR!)
Re: TG –
Eh, no, she is still the Duchess of York. She had the title 'her royal highness' removed. Fuck, read an article before talking out of your arse, will you?
I'm studying in Hull! It's not that bad! Okay so it has some bad areas but which city doesn't?
I am from Hull and although I am so chuffed that the word Hull is on this site, I am sick of TV shows just showing the poor areas of Hull. It makes Hull out to be a dump full of fat uneducated people which is not true! I' from west Hull and it's nothing like the areas that they film every time they come to us!
and as for being one of the poorest areas in England, that is such a cliché, just because we are in the north…
billy….dont talk crap
Lets sort a couple things: Perez, you're British translation = wholly incorrect. Further, "Fergie" is not royal. She is a former member of the royal family via marriage to His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, the Duke of York. Now, she is not. Much like "Princess Diana" was not royal at the time of her death, and was never officially styled "Princess Diana." But I wouldn't expect a person who looks like a gay Mr Potatohead to know any of that.
she is the worst every to darken the doors of Windsor Castle. She is NOT an HRH and is just hideous. She was born on the wrong side of the pond that's for sure, hasn't she moved to the States yet?
the original fergie - true royalty!
Are there any Brits reading this out there? I always thought that the term "projects" = "council houses" in England. Never heard of them being referred to as estates. Is this new?
i prefeer the new fergie!!

HOLLER BITCHES!!! TO THE LEFT TO THE LEFT
I had an wonder occasion to meet and talk with Fergie. I can totaly say she is a wonderful and fun person. To bad the US and UK have ignored her.
Seems to me their are a few people that are a bit jealous!!! Get a life
perez not all "estates" are like projects!!!!!!!
it just means where alot of houses are! i lived on a very nice and quiet one, but in other areas - perticularly council estates - they are rough - not saying all people who live on benefits and are jobless are problematic but most - my nana lived on a rough estate, when I was younger it was a decent place however in the late 90's - what a difference, there were always burned out stolen cars, someone set fire to a house with a woman and her baby still in - just because she was new to the street! This is what people do for fun - sick! In the end people moved away and the council started knocking down the houses! Some people just have a wasted life and are bored - hope she can help, will be interesting to see!
Hull is known for having so much crime! but why arent the council/local MP's doing anything ?
I live on a council estate, but in a *nice* area. The 3 bedroom houses are
all being bought up for £300,000 or (I think you double) it $600,000 is that
what they're going for in the projects?
Hi to everyone has put comments on. I live in Hull (aka Hell) and just to clarify what is meant by an estate in this instance. Preston Road is a council estate, yes that means accommodation the local government provides for people on a low income or are in receipt of benefits. Preston road is one of several major estates in Hull (the Bransholme estate is possible the largest in Europe). Hull used to be a rich city - its wealth came mainly from fishing during the Victorian period. To be brief the plug was pulled on fishing, the city also had the high number of civilian casualties during the second world war. This was simply because of its position on the East coast. German fighter pilots would dumb any extra bombs they were carrying on Hull before making there return journey home. Hence you could say the city has had its problems.
It has to be said that while some people housing estate are a needed stop gap to keep families safe and together - the UK benefits system (aka nanny state) has now spawned its 3rd generation of benefit babies who now terrorise the streets. Although these estates look nice in pictures, they are mainly made up pretty houses with gardens - there is a feeling of lawlessness in these areas. There are vulnerable people elderly and sick who have to live in these areas, and who face intimidation daily. Please watch this if you live in the US as even if there is some glossing over by the production company, this is how the UK poor are and live, there is more to the UK than London.
I love the little translation there Perez lol
cripes! i live on preston rd, i dont think fergie will take kindly to corn beef in a tin
estates are a large collection of council houses and hull had the largest estate in europe until half of it got demolished a few years ago.
The Queen removed her H.R.H. (Her Royal Highness) but she is still the Duchess of York. When she was a member of the royal family her title was, H.R.H. The Duchess of York, Princess Sarah but after her divorce she is titled Sarah, Duchess of York.
The same was true for Diana, Princess of Wales.
Fergie in the UK means nothing!!! she is only famous amonst the FAT people in America! And you call that rough!! AS IF!!! how tame! rough would be slightly north or may b central? Brixton? Peckham? OXMOOR!!!!! GOD!
I'm actually kinda on Preston Road, and ain't seen her about!!! I know that she had hired out an entire Bed and Breakfast to stay at while she's here, so she isn't really staying with them as such!
Don't really wanna see it on tele though because us Hull people don't sound too good on the television!!! Ha ha… she has probably picked the worst area in Hull to come to!
All I can say is there she had best be ready to dial 999!!!
Re: Leigh –
I couldn't agree more… I see this every day, burned out cars, smashed up fences, graffitti, the lot… I mean for god's sake, like 3 weeks ago, a guy was stabbed and killed literally 2 minutes walk away from where I live and that guy lived off Preston Road… It's not a nice area at all! A couple of months before that 3 guys got a bicycle off a girl WHILE SHE WAS RIDING ON IT, from down the same street!!!
Just a word of advice to anyone, i'm not trying to paint a grim picture of council estates by any means, but just that everyone needs to be careful and take care!!! None of us are invincible, even if you are royalty.
