I live in Oklahoma and I hate to tell you, but to be closeted and gay here is a much easier albeit tormented lifestyle because of the rampant ignorance and strong stubborn predjudice. I have several friends in the Oklahoma political system who are gay, but will never say anything on behalf of gays and will probably marry stepford wives to further their career. I live in Senator Kern's district. She doesn't represent me in this matter. What she says is frighteningly anti-American and clearly fascist. I plan on running against her in the next election. Are there others from Sen. Kern's office who would support me? I hope that others hearing her words don't assume that this represents Oklahoma. We are one of the friendliest states you can imagine. People here would do anything to help someone in need. So please keep this in mind.

I do not agree with the statements that Mrs. Kern made but I live in Oklahoma and sadly many of the people who live in this state and other states share Mrs. Kern's opinion on homosexuality. But I think that it's unfair to shame this great state for one woman's ignorance. Oklahoma is often seen as a backward society and it's not warranted. Many individuals in this state (as well in others) base their morality on the Bible and the teachings of their church. Its not how we should be perceived as people and this is not the kind of people that god wants us to be. I lost my uncle last year due to a complication of AIDS and he was a great man, and never caused anyone any pain, and to hear this kind of hate makes me glad he is no longer here it. As a new resident of Oklahoma, it is sad to see this kind of hatred around. But, it makes me so proud of the folks like those at Oklahomans For Equality for making a safe place for the LGBT community and all the outreach they do to educate (not recruit) Oklahomans about LGBT issues. As far as GSA's are concerned, they are there to help those kids who are LGBT or questioning, not to bring homosexuality to schools. Someone educate this poor woman!
