    Re: political correctness – FYI: The women wasn't wearing a hijab, she was wearing a SARI, and covering her head. Which isn't how indian women actually wear a SARI. Obvi she wore it like that to make a statement. Just wanted to clear that up. There is a huge difference between a hijab and a sari. In fact if you paid attention to the video, the woman had a bindi on, which muslim women do not wear.

    this video assumes muslim veiling to be a clear sign of women's opression. Jewel may feel like a "stronger woman" without her culturally determined accessories, but I don't believe she reserves the right to assume the same for ALL east indian women of a culturally sacred religious piece of dress.

    By clearly defining what a strong woman should be, Jewel simultaneously defines what a strong woman should not be therefore denying women agency and the possibility for the reappropriation of such "opressive" historical artifacts of fashion.

    This song and video lack so much of who jewel really is (or should I say used to be). After watching this new video and then who will save your soul video, it is clear that she has surrendered to the glamor of hollywood and therefore has acquired a lack of inspiration. To sing about caring for yourself over some primitive man (that she so willingly chose to love) is FAR from her real, raw emotions that are clearly displayed in her debut album, Pieces of You. Send her back to the streets where she can make some real music!
