As the fifth season is set to debut later this month…
Showtime has announced that their very successful lesbionically delicious drama The L Word will end its run on the network next year.
By the time the last episode airs, the show will be one of the longest running programs in cable TV history with six seasons.
According to the net, fan input will play a part in wrapping up the series' story lines, noting the role that viewer input has played in the past.
Goodbye ladies and good run!

WHY??!! I just got into this show two seasons ago….! I guess I understand but it is such a good show and its the only one about lesbians. As a straight girl I live vicariously through them…Shane is my FAVORITE! Then Bette, then Alice. I LOVE YOU L WORD!!!

The 5th season debuted in January, it is set to conclude later this month. The 6th and final season will head into production in the summer and air in early '09

Um, actually he's right. On Showtime, this is the first EVER show to go past 5 seasons… and even on HBO etc it doesn't happen often. Maybe you're getting mixed up with regular network shows where obviously there are quite a few that have gone to 6 seasons.
