Talk about a commute!
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose official place of work is in the Northern California city of Sacramento, reportedly spends nearly every night in his Los Angeles-area mansion.
The distance between the two cities is about 360 miles one way!
The governor uses his own money to pay for his Gulfstream flights, which price out at about $10,000 an hour.
Good thing he earned some major cash as a bodybuilder/actor.
But, the environmental costs are high. Flying TO AND FROM WORK is not very ecologically sound, as our Perezcious readers know!
The governor's staff says he purchases "carbon credits." Such credits are aimed at offsetting the greenhouse gases generated by his flights but do nothing about the particulates and smog-forming compounds released into the air.
The reason the Governator gives for the 'commute'? It's so he can spend time with his family. Admirable but can't the family move up to Sacramento?
Arnold recently made the cover of Newsweek for being 'green'. Looks a little hypocritical to us!

Arnie is not the only a&*hole governor to forget where the capital of his state is. I live in Illinois and our governor refuses to stay in the Mansion even when he is in town (which never happens). He uses the jet for private use all the time and in general is a total waste.
$10,000 dollars an hour? Let's see, that works out to about $200,000 per month, counting just weekdays. So if this report is true, the Governor should be able to stop jetting and buy a modest bungalow within walking distance of his office, or pay for a really luxious rental, and then he can see his family daily, only without the great, whoppng, embarrassing carbon footprint. The UN says that 18,000 children die each day from hunger and malnutrition. That's a sad thought, and it's even sadder to think about all the mothers left crying, and no one can console them. Flying around in private jets is convenient and comfortable for the super wealthy, but for me, the thought of all those children would spoil my ride.
Why does everyone have to be green or even care? The pope now says it is a sin not to be green. That should be a clue as to how wrong the thinking is.
as a student doing my masters in environmental management, i really think that newsweek (and arnold) should be ashamed of themselves. newsweek should not be promoting this type of selfish behavior, which is totally the opposite of green. newsweek should have focused their attention on someone who is more deserving… like david suzuki.

He is our GOVERNOR, Sacramento is our state capital, why can't he move for work like the rest of us do. It is ridiculous that he still lives in LA. If he refuses to move himself and the family to Sac, then he should fly up on Monday and leave Thursday, work from home on Friday. Or one day a week. COME ON! Is this why he was elected by the people?
