Expect To See A Lot More Of This
Filed under: Film Flickers > Media MinuteFour of the major movie studios have reached a deal that will see 3-D technology become much more prevalent.
Disney, 20th Century Fox, Paramount and Universal Pictures have agreed to finance and equip 10,000 more theater screens in the U.S. and Canada to make them 3-D compatible.
The cost? $700 million!
The upside???? The studios are banking on BIG excitement and bigger profits for 3-D films.

3D is overrated.
THIS WOULD BE COOL

YES!!! Ive missed those sexy 3D glasses from when I was a kid!
2nd!
that would be the coolest thing..
holy shit…..did they release the name of the 3D company by chance? Real D?? oh gawd i hope not, i hate those greedy mother fuckers…….
So I guess that means one box of popcorn which probably costs 15 cents to make will now cost customers $30.00 a box, right?
Don't the theaters only make money on concessions and won't these new additions to theaters just squeeze the theater owners more?
Hilarious! It's like the fabulous 50s all over again!
Well, I guess they need some way to get butts on seats. And you know it's only a matter of time before they bring back 3-D porn. Can you imagine the magnificent cumshots they could get with today's technology? Mass bukkake! Yum!
Damn it! I'm 80% blind in my right eye, I can't see that 3-D s**t! Great now I might have to sit in a theatre full of people spazing at nothing flying in their faces while don't.
Who asked them to do this? Man, Hollywood is desperate. How about they just lower the price of admission to theaters and make movies worth spending hard-earned money on? And how about they stop hiring asswipes like Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, or Angelina Jolie to star in them. How about they start asking regular people what they'd like to see on the movie screen instead of letting these out-of-touch, high-salaried executives decide for us? The movie industry is suffering because people are no longer willing to exchange half-a-day's pay to take the family out to see crap. Hollywood is an island unto itself. They fail to realize that we "simpletons" in the rest of the country/world will not just follow along mindlessly and buy into ever bogus piece of trash they try to serve to us. Wake up, movie execs. We're far more discerning in taste than you will ever be.
I'm sorry but didn't they already try this….. in the 80's. I'm pretty sure i remember a huge thing about 3D about 20 years ago!
How the fuck can movie studios [huge corporations] sleep at night. Spending $700 million dollars on 3D cinemas? What about spending that money on feeding starving people, healthcare, foreign aid, the environment? Fuck that, we'll spend it on 3D theatres…thats what the world desperately needs….oh and while we're at it, lets pay the actors $20 million to read lines off a script. It
3d movies get u an experience u cant get at home. its worth the money! my local theater in rockaway is getting an imax mpx theater just in time for heath ledgers last big movie!

That's messed up, I just became blind in one eye, and I can't see 3-d. DISCRIMINATION!!!!
Big Woop. Number 1) 3D is over-rated. Number 2) Cost to equip the screens. And last but by no means least: Number 3) So I guess this means $20-plus to go to the movies…???!!!
That's so smart it could keep those movies from being pirated.
That's great! We saw Beowulf in 3-D and it was AWESOME!
Thank you Cate (#19) You took the words right out of my mouth!
It's not just old run of the mill 3-D with red/blue glasses. It's a whole new technology. James Cameron just wrapped a movie called "Avatar" with Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Rodriguez where it will be a sick new style of 3D which instead uses the camera like a human eye. Instead of shit red/blue glasses we'll use special glasses. I've read it's going to blow our minds and revolutionize filmmaking the way color film did.
This IS a big deal.
