Patrick Dempsey had hearts swooning in this hometown Lewiston, Maine, on Monday.
The Grey's Anatomy hunk launched the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at the Central Maine Medical Center.
Dempsey's center is designed to help cancer patients and their families get free information and support both online and at the hospital. It will also offer programs like massage therapy and yoga that are clinically proven to help cancer patients heal. Also, staff will be traveling to more rural areas to bring services to patients who may not be able to come to Lewiston.
Ya, he's pretty damn near perfect.

Dempsey said, "I think that it's very important for anybody going through cancer treatment today is just to have a person there, so you're not being treated like a number and that's what we're trying to acheive."
McDreamy was inspired to "give back" because his mother, Amanda, has been successfully treated for ovarian cancer at CMMC three times. His sister, Mary, also works there.
The Patrick Dempsey Center's facility won't be open until later this month, but the website with cancer and wellness information is live.

That is McDreamy, I don't even watch the show and I think I recognize that. Either way, he is not that good looking.. just the typical wavy hair/squinty eye thing, and he looks like he'd be a prick anyways. OK, First, he's NOT from Lewiston. He's from Buckfield/Greene, Maine.
Secondly, this is huge for our small communities. There aren't a lot of options for treatment here, many families facing tough medical problems are sent to Portland at best, but usually Boston. Having something like this here will bring families closer when they have to deal with cancer.

I have much respect for him now. Cancer patients, esp. in rural areas, need these types of centers for their fight/recovery. Imagine if all the celebs would put their money where there mouth is..

I'm from Portland (a little south of Lewiston) and I think that what he's doing is great. Lewiston isn't a very rich community, and there are a lot of immigrants (legal, mind you) in the area. I challenge anyone who thinks that he is doing this just for the publicity to come up and see what it is like in the area that he is helping. If someone was doing this in a poorer area around you, would you still be saying that? Maine's government is currently toying with the idea of cutting funding for public health care, so what he is doing is almost a miracle for our state. Give the guy some credit, all he's trying to do is give back to the community that helped his family.
I'd be a lot more impressed if he didn't name it after himself! Pompous!

I am proud of the fact that he has helped to open a center that is truly needed here in the Lewiston/Auburn area. He was born there, his mother treated for cancer and his sister is a long-time employee of the hospital. Kudos. The hospital has expanded quite a bit over the last few years and is state of the art.

I used to go to Boarding School near Lewiston and ive been in the hospital a few times for shots and stuff. Lewiston is pretty shady its great that hes helping out the neighborhood its pretty close to a ghetto.. Is he still there? I want to see him!!!!!!!

He is rude on set to other actors and crew members he has this entitlement chip on his shoulder and he simply doesn't deserve all of the praise he gets. Besides, places like that eat time, it's one thing to open it, but who is going to run it? Anyone can slap their name on a shitty product. Additionall how many celebrity charities actually do anything?
Re: David – Actually, Patrick's sister, who is a nurse, will be running the center. The majority of murders occurring in Maine are domestic violence related, with 21 murders occurring in the entire state for 2006 (the last year the stats are online). Androscoggin County, where Lewiston is located, had 1 murder in all of 2006, whereas Cumberland County had 4 (where Portland is located).

well he has a connection to CMMC..He was born there. His sister is a RN there. His mother has gone through 3 bouts of ovarian cancer and was treated at CMMC. I am a Lewiston native and this is the kind of things a small town needs. Good for you McDreamy! Lewiston Maine loves McDreamy!

I'm from Maine, near the Damariscotta/Bremen/Boothbay area. I heard that he was quite a bully in his hometown when he was younger. Can't say that that is true, as I didn't know him but people grow up and change and that is awesome that he is helping out like that.
I have to say that I was always afraid of going to Lewiston. All the tough kids came from Lewiston LOL. I've heard it refered to as the ghetto as well. I've never LIVED there though so I don't want to trash the place.

first of all….kudos to him for doing this, plenty of celebs just keep their money and never give back to their home communities
and to those of you who are bitching that it is named after him..there's a very simple reason - it's called funding & raising money. At some point, there will be a need for outside sources and it's a hell of a lot easier to get people to donate when they recognize the name.
secondly, patrick has never denied that he was basically a prick in his younger days, that's not his rep today. so stop repeating old rumours. if you've got fresh dirt, great - post it and say so.
