Oh and we have no refinaries because the oil companies bought them and shut them down, while creating other bottlenecks every where they can. They've even sat ships off the coast to increase prices. And don't you wonder about the only man in Texas who couldn't make money on oil. Well one of the issues that put him under, he claims, is the price per barrel. When the war started in 3/03 (the month the Iraq war started) the price of gasoline was $1.24/gallon in expensive CA and $16/barrel. Why are Cheney's energy meetings secret?

The economy isn't really Bush's fault. Gas prices affect the price of everything, and no, that's not Bush's fault either. It's demand that's raising the prices. We're gas hogs, and China has been sucking gas up as it develops as well. Remember supply and demand from econ 101? Those of you who have been to college?
How about the media?? We weren't in a recession until the media forced it down our throats until we believed it. The media is the ultimate downfall of our country regardless of which party is in power.
OPEC and the Saudi's told the US off the other day and said high prices were our own fault and they are. Ever time the dollar takes a dive, prices go up. We haven't been looking for oil ourselves and haven't built any new refineries since the '70's (many president administrations to blame for that). AND if you are going to blame anyone, go to Wall Street. Oil is traded as a future, the prices are made there. (fixed there)

It would seem that few of you have not taken even Economics 101.
Whether you like Bush or not it is not his fault. There is very little a president can do to directly influence the economy.
As far as I see it, it boils down to three primary causes.
Housing crunch.
Credit Crunch.
Fuel Crunch.
Housing - this is simple. All sides are responsible from those being forclosed upon to the companies that provided the loans to those who might not be able to afford them to lawmakers who forced the companies to make the loans.
Credit crunch - also easy. People spent too much using credit. And now they are behind and or cannot aford to purchase more items due to the debt they themselves created. This is why it is bad to purchase anything on credit unless absolutley necessary. Like a car repair for example is O.K. but groceries or a restaurant bill for example are bad credit purchases.
Fuel is also very easy. As other economies around the globe grow and become both more wealthy and affluent - so too does their need for fuel rise. This goes back to the very basic economic theory of supply and demand. There is a finite supply for fuels (gas for instance) but a much larger demand for it. As global demand rises so too will the cost of the fuel or any other items for which demand grows.
All three of these in turn would create a direct "negative" effect on an economy and cause it to slow.

Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we're seen:
1) Consumer confidence plummet;
2) the cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3 a gallon;
3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);
4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);
5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;
6)1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!
