Blame Ashton (Again)!

The E! network is trying to distance themselves from their new Ashton Kutcher-produced show.
They wanna avoid a costly lawsuit!
Ashton's Pop Fiction is mired in controversy amidst new allegations that the show is based on a concept originally created by Anna Nicole Smith and Howard K. Stern, which they pitched to the network that aired their former reality show.
Stern was said to even follow up about it - with Larry Birkhead hosting - just a few months ago.
Now, Wednesday morning, the E! Network released the following statement:
"Pop Fiction is a program independently created and developed by Ashton Kutcher's company, Katalyst. Pop Fiction is not based on any idea or concept that may have been pitched to E! by any other party."

Ashton Kutcher's show, Punk'd, was about pranking celebrities. Pop Fiction is an idea derived from his previous show. The two shows are related, and therefore he shouldn't be accused of stealing someone else's ideas. Perhaps Anna was inspired by Punk'd…

1) Sounds like they are supporting him. Meaning no one from E! gave him the idea, therefore it couldn't have been stolen from a previous pitch.
2) The idea isn't that ground breaking. I am sure plenty of people have thought of it before.
3) It would be awesome if this whole story was just part of the show!
Re: NY Fashionista – the point is anna and howard presented the idea FIRST. the fact that E is acting like they didn't is because they've spoken to their attorneys who will try to use some legalese jargon to claim the two shows aren't the same. kind of like how clinton tried to argue the definition is the word "is". and clearly ashton hasn't had shit going on in forever so what took him so long to come to E with his oh so relevant show idea?

Even if he did, it's not illegal to "steal" an idea. Ideas are not copyrightable. I don't understand teh legal controversy here.
Ashton has been in ALOT of movies. I remember one called 'Just Married' with him and Brittany Murphy which was just hilarious! He's got a recent one out with Carmen Diaz - 'What happens in Vegas' - I haven't seen that so I can't comment on how good it actually is.
Many people don't realize that he also produces a really funny reality show called "Beauty and the Geek" which is great! My husband and I usually try to catch it on the week that they show the whole thing in one day ( after it's been aired week after week) and it's funny as hell!
I think he's great! That being said, the picture above is funny as hell with your caption above it…he looks just like a pouting child..and the way she is dragging him by his wrist…LOL…cracks me up!
I dont think they are trying to distance themselves. I get what they are saying. They (E) didnt go to Katalyst with the idea. Because that would have been stealing ANS's idea. But Katalyst came to them with the idea. Just like Anna and Howard came to them. Except they probably knew it would suck. And would suck even more when Howard and Larry came to them. I dont see how they could sue over it.

Ashton Kutcher has not shown me that he has any acting talent. Now he's producing tv shows that have the maturity of a juvenile. He would be better off directing his funds and energies into some business line of making money–say owning a resturant or two. Anything out of the acting/producing/directing line because he does not seem to have talent or ability in those three areas.

I guess most of you have missed all the other reports on this. Anna Nicole thought of the concept, had it registered with the Writers Guild of America three years ago. She then pitched it to E! that same time with a rundown of the show. E! passed on it. TWo months ago, Howard tried to see if E! was interested. They said no. If you register something with the writer's guild, it is petty much yours. That being said, E1 got the idea from her and went with ASShton. A big no-no. A lawsuit would have merit on HKS's part.
How does this douche keep getting work? That 70's Show was almost unwatchable because of him. Every movie he's in sucks ass. His sense of humor is retarded and he's about as funny as a fart in a crowded elevator. He's an imbecile and he's with Demi Moore. WTF????? She must have a few loose screws herself.

How on earth could anyone deny the similarities of these ideas? This would be a slam dunk win for Stern and E! is right to distance themselves from the show. I just hope that Stern is satisfied with whatever money he gets from this suit and the one he has against Rita Cosby, enough so that he does not pursue the Marshall fortune. That suit would be totally futile and would obviously be a circus. Anna Nicole didn't deserve that money in life and Larry and Dannielynn aren't entitled to it now.
Re: daniel – Larry has no claim. However, Howard does have a valid claim. It was registered with the Writer's Guild. While that is not the same as getting it copywrited, it does put it on record that it was brought up to E! E! CAN be sued.
I'm actually excited to see the new episode of Pop Fiction. I'm gonna have my TV on E! tonight baybee!
