He made a TON of enemies. The black guy has made statements on record that he likes to get people to come together. He doesn't like to make enemies and his style is more conciliatory. Governor Spitzer, his family, and the citizens of New York will need time to heal from this betrayal but those of you sitting in judgement need to shut up and let us get to it. What is even more amazing to me is that there isn't a better system in place for prostitutes and johns to get together that the law can't touch. For instance- if a john called a company and bought a feminist "watercolor" and arranged to have the female artist "sign" the painting and deliver it to him… Then have the Ho bring the watercolor with her (hell, you could even have her take 5 minutes and paint it to keep things on the up and up)- arrange to meet the "collector" at some hotel, sign the 5K artwork and then celebrate by having "free" sex with the collector (in the heat of the moment). The worst part about it would be that the HO-House would have to mark up the artwork to adjust for the taxes that would be paid… But I'm sure the government would love it. He accused senior level management of corruption based on high salaries that were approved by compensation commitees in their corporate boards. This is not just about having an affair or intrusion into his personal life. I agree that prostitution is a victimless crime and I could care less if it were legalized-but Spitzer actively prosecuted prostitution rings. For this reason alone he should have resigned out of hypocrisy.
However in addition to soliciting and paying for sex, he faces 2 other possible charges: taking someone across state lines for immoral purposes and illegally arranging cash transactions to conceal their purpose. The latter is the most damning as that was a crime he sought most to prosecute as a DA.
If you are so familiar with the politics in NY then you would know that Spitzer was not a FANTASTIC governor and was loathed by both Democrats (myself included)and Republicans alike.
