When Actors Get Out Of Control

There's a bit of divalicious trouble surrounding the Marvel Studios' "new" Incredible Hulk movie.

The studio promised leading man Edward Norton significant creative input….so much so that they allowed him to be on the re-write team to tune up the movie script.

Big mistake!

Well, looks like Norton and the studio aren't seeing eye to eye on the current "final" cut of the movie.

Sources report that starting last night and continuing at least throughout today, the actor will be holed up with Marvel Studios execs to reach an amicable resolution.

Some fear that if the studio is unable to settle the current feud Norton will not take part in any of the promotions for the film. Very unprofesh.

Movies NEED their leading actors to push their films hard before opening weekend!

Norton is reportedly known for being a bit 'prickly' (i.e. hard to work with?). Why didn't the studio take that into consideration?

It's costing about $150 million to make this new Hulk movie. Hope they work it out!

And why is the default that he is a Diva? It's a contractual relationship where he was promised something and it isn't being delivered. Maybe the final cut is "shit" and he knows it. Maybe it isn't and he IS a DIVA. But, to just conclude that he is a Diva right out oft the box is ignorant.

Well if they are gonna promise him creative license, they need to stick to it. And I know that not promoting a movie is unprofessional, but so is telling someone they will have significant input and then ignoring their requests. Don't promise something you aren't willing to give. And as for Edward Norton supposedly being "prickly," well I think that is true for a lot of really talented people. Especially in the creative arts industry. Plus I have read interviews with other celebrities that have worked with Norton that say he is really a nice man, Brad Pitt being one.

I don't blame him after how the last incredible hulk turned out. His career is on the line and these studios don't even care to take the time to put out a movie that is decent anymore. More actors should take their career this seriously and not let the studios push them around.

I can't stand this prick Edward Norton. Everyone is like letting him getting away with him being the way he is because they think "he is such a good actor and yay he starred in Fight Club" the guy is an arrogant smug actor who is incredibly egomaniacal. He's always been this way. He re edited the whole movie American History X himself to make sure he got the flashiest moments of his performance in to do all he could to make him look so great and not the film. And the director was furious. He is an asshole and that's why he's not even at the status he could have been at.

Has anyone ever listened to his commentary on Fight Club dvd? Good GOD this guy takes himself way too seriously is incredibly arrogant and sooo pretentious and Brad Pitt actually came off pretty cool on the commentary and seemed like a regular laid back dude but Norton was way too into himself and interrupting everyone giving obnoxiously pretentious remarks about how important the film is for the generation and people who didn't like the film aren't smart. Blah blah blah.

He is the biggest wanna be De Niro too. That movie Down in the Valley? It sucked so bad and he was trying so hard to be like De Niro in Taxi Driver. He has the biggest ego and that is his down fall because as an actor you have to be willing to let your pride go and make it about the STORY not yourself. He's an asshole.

and watch all these fight Club fanboys are going to come in here and defend him. Why can't you just admit that Edward Norton is a self important asshole? Because any other actor if he did the same thing say Tom Cruise or John Travolta and you would roasting his ass. Norton is way too into himself and wants to just make himself look sooooo great and doesn't give a shit about anyone else. HE's an incredibly selfish actor. The greatest actors are generous. He's a total dickhead!

Miss Norton should remove whatever is stuck in his ass. It's just a movie. Step away and breathe. People will watch it while munching popcorn, fingering their girlfriends (or boyfriends) or chatting to their friends about their cat's diabetes.
I hate 'important' actors like Edward Norton or Sean Penn who can't deal with the fact that they have a sissy profession.

From a independent filmmaker perspective, maybe the studio is making it too cookie cutter and one-dimensional. Edward Norton is known for taking risks with his film choices, so this one may be too big budget/Hollywood for him. He needs to stick to 25th Hour and American History X.

If Norton had complete creative control this movie would be twenty times better than it's going to be. He just doesn't want to partake in another formulaic Hollywood production, and I commend him for standing up to mediocrity. Second, how about some effing appreciation to having PRIDE in your work? It is his reputation on the line as well and good for him for having that mean something. At least he's not this unattached actor who only cares about a fat paycheck. He's showing to have the integrity the stand up for a movie he's in.

Edward Norton consistently puts out quality films. Soem are box office successes some are not. You can't say that his body of work doesn't prove his talent. Fight Club, 25th Hour, American History X, Death To Smoochy, Rounders, The People Vs. Larry Flynt are jsut a few and more than enough to establish is film credentals. Studios have notoriously fucked up their big summer releases by letting executives and producers trump the writers and directors in the final cut. Hulk will have a big opeing weekend regardless of how the film is made, but you cant build a long running franchise on shitty film, thats why they are redoing it in the first place. but im sure they let Ang lee do what he wanted to do and that didnt turn out well. but when push comes to shove writer and directors tend to know whats best over executives affraid of losing their jobs abd producers just trying to get back their investments. THat said, Norton has been on enough quality pictures to have earned some respect and studios, even though they hate to do it, should live up to their agreements.

I hate commenting on message boards but this hilton asshole is such a shitty "journalist" i feel compelled.

      73

As usual, Perez, you're a dipshit and only have half the story.

Ed Norton has written more than one movie, and has re-written several scripts that needed it, including the script for Frida, starring his then-girlfriend Salma Hayek. He even did that one without any writing credit, as he is not a member of the WGA.

Does that sound like a diva? Ah, no.

Truth was, William Hurt was an amazing guy and really easy to talk too. A total gentleman. Liv Tyer was super sweet in person too. Norton on the other hand… in 30 days, I saw him once. He would come on set and immediatley leave, and would not talk to any of his fellow actors or crew. He would talk to hardly anyone, and was just rude in person (4am and everyone is freezing on set, and he can't be bothered to say hello to anyone or thank them for staying 8 hours over schedule…mmmm…). Ed Norton is my absoulte favorite actor..I love him and he can do whatever he wants..I'm sure he had good reason and knows what he is doing..I think he is amazing and can't see him acting like a "diva" ??

And why is the default that he is a Diva? Maybe the final cut is "shit" and he knows it. If the movie is a flop its always the actors that gets most if not all of the blam, He should standup for making the best movie he can.

He completly hacked together the entire film American History X when the directed wouldn't put it together and walked away from the project. This turned out to be PHENOMENAL. He is brilliant, he can only make that green shit better!!

He lives in my area. He seems to think that we're all looking at him or stalking him, so he looks you in the eye with an "I'll f*ck your sh*t up" look. Hey Hulk boy…I'm just picking up my laundry. I could care less about who you are.

      Idiot!

Edward is a huge talent with solid literary background– including Signature Theater in NYC. I think the movie would be better with his help!

If they didn't want his input, they shouldn't have given him creative freedom. Go take a cock up the ass Perez, what the fuck do you know about acting.

I”ve only seen him in two movies: American History X, and his first role (I think) Primal Fear (my personal favorite). He was really good in both, but he does kind of look like he has it in him to be a bit of a jerk.
