It's Official!

harrypotter.jpg

It had been rumored, then denied, but now…

It's confirmed!

The last Harry Potter book, Deathly Hallows, will hit the big screen as TWO movies.

The films are scheduled to be released in November 2010 and May 2011.

The official stance? There's too much material to cover in one movie! It makes more sense to split it into two.

Alan Horn, president of Warner Bros. (the studio in charge of all Harry Potter pics), said that "it would have been a disservice" to downsize Deathly Hallows into one film.

There's definitely more money for everyone involved by splitting it into two.

There aren't any more Harry Potter books coming out so you gotta milk the cow while you can!

i am so happy "deathly hallows" will be split into two films.the book had so much information and it was more character driven, so i knew that it was no way that it could be a 2 1/2 film.

What a great way to ruin the final book/movie. if they can condense Order of the Phoenix (not to mention each Lord of the Rings books) down to a single film they can condense down Deathly Hallows. 3/4's of the book is Harry and Friends camping with a couple of flashblacks culminating in one big bad ass fight where half the characters die 'off screen' as it were.

regardless of the economic potential, I think it's a good idea to make it two movies. I just believe they should be a few months apart. One year it's too much.

by now, everybody has read the book, so we don't wanna see the movie to get the ending, but to enjoy it. why wait so long?

I am a huge fan of the HP book series…I was a tad bit disappointed that they're breaking it into 2 parts, but I do understand that there is a lot of action in those pages…maybe this is a reaction to some of the negative criticism towards the other films where they have edited a little too freely and lost some of the essence of the books…either way, I will look forward to seeing the films :-)

Despite what you may think, the decision to split the 7th book into two films wasn't because of money. It was a purely creative decision because if you actually took the time to read the series you would realize that it would be impossible for them to cut anything from the movie.

I've known this for awhile now…

It's because they were cutting a lot out of the movies and people that actually read the books, like myself, were getting upset about it.

There is so much happening in the 7th book. It is definitely my favorite!

You did inform me of one thing I didn't already know though, and that's when the second of "Harry Potter and the Deathy Hallows" will come out, so thanks.

The seventh book was not as good as the others, in my opinion (no year at Hogwarts and a disgustingly cheesy epilogue). They cut down the other movies shorter than they had to be (why not 3 1/2 hour movies like LOTR?). Why cut down the others, but extend this one?

      Re: Jessica
Something tells me JKR had a her hand in them splitting it.

Also, the movies (however dark they may be) sre still geared towards children. How many kids would honestly sit through a 3.5 hour long movie? And on another note, the directors most likely considered making it 2.5 then when that didn't fit, they would have considered making it 3.5 hours. Since that still didn't fit, the best choice would be to do what they did and make it 2 movies all together.

And to whoever said they would have to wait a year between the two- while the years ('10 and '11) are different, there is only 5 months between the movies. DH-1 will likely be out of theaters in February or March so then the two movies will seem all the more closer with only 2-3 months between them.

      69

These movies better not suck. This last book is AMAZING! The 5th movie wasn't as good as I had hoped. They left out a lot of things that people who haven't read the books wouldn't understand. They need to keep the facts from the book!!! I'm so sad to see it all end…

I think it's fabulous that they are doing two. Progressively more material has been cut from the books in translating it to movie, and it can be difficult when there are things you are expecting or hope to see shown and you are dissappointed. In the case of JK Rowling I doubt it's about money, she would just want to see the closing to this amazing series done right.

    75. v.v.vinaybabu says – reply to this

      75

I believe that this is just a means of making more money. It's like insulting JK Rowling wisdom in creating 7 books, instead of 8. I seriously fail to understand the motivation behind 2 movies. The fact that they didn't clearly explain the reason indirectly justifies what I've said.

We should not forget that the hype surrounding the last Potter books's release was responsible for the 5th film's HUGE success.

The is certainly no surprise, there is far to much material to cover in what would of been either incredibly long or incredibly rushed movie. And it doesn't take a genius to see the money to be mad of 2 movies instead.

I predict the last two movies will not come up to the box office of the earlier ones. People are getting a bit tired of them, and Harry is growing up so he ain't so cute anymore. If Harry ain't cute and Hermione not sweet and loveable, what's to like about them all? I suspect the franchise has faded.

      84

Yep, they can magically condence the other films and yes - so much happens in the final book, but talk about milking it. Wow, JKR knows how to get the most BANG for her BUCK. PS ~ Hey people, her writing is average. She just got lucky. Plus being married to a former author didn't hurt. She submitted her writing how many times before they agreed to print it? Lucky, lucky, lucky. Anyone who's an avid reader knows she's just above an average novelist.

Too much "material" my ass! Two movies will make them more money!!! Duh!

    88. Sara says – reply to this

      88

They cut so much out of the previous movies (especially OOTP) that there are now a lot of loose ends to resolve at the series end. I suspect, not only can they not cut parts from Deathly Hallows, but they also are going to fill in some of the background info that was skipped in the prior 5 movies. Also, to those who worried about them getting too old: the article clearly states that the movies are going to be filmed back to back which means there will be no age gap between part 1 and part 2 of Deathly Hallows. Lighten up!!
