What a moronic qoute by Goldie. It's why hollywood people are fucked in the head. Marriage is about commitment yet Goldie and Kurt are scared of commitment. They are unable to make the thoughtful decisions that many make and keep. Marriage isn't perfect. Nothing is. But, those who get married have courage to make their relationship work.

I've run into Goldie and Kurt over the years, in the neighborhood and at friend's houses. In my experience, they're both really nice and unpretentious.
I think it's weird that folks live together and think it's a sign of "freedom" or that they're more committed to each other than married folks. Our 50% of marriages statistic includes folks who marry more than once - i.e. if you get married 2 times, divorce two times, you're pushing that statistic up - it's not 1 in 2 married people.
I'm not saying that marriage is for everyone or that one can't be committed living together but at the same time, I think it seems odd to give living together some special significance, like there's more work to it or whatever.
I'd hazard a guess that having actual viable legal bonds - be that writing a person into your will alone, giving them a power of attorney or a medical power of attorney, domestic partnership, marriage - is a bit more in the vein of "put your money where your mouth is" than "I choose to stay but I don't have to, so that shows how much more committed I am."
So… ya, that's basically a, "hey - give me a break, Goldie. You're not big stuff for staying with Kurt. Lots of people stay together and are married. Geez," but slightly more wordy.
