      Fantastic, another scientologist.

That being said, he's had numerous well-documented bouts of depression and obviously if he thinks he needs to go this way, the drugs aren't working for him.

Re: HORTON HEARS A WHO!!!! – keep the hell off this Blog , right wingin' piece of shit. As far a Jim Carey is concerned, he is 100 percent correct. I am NOT a scientologist however, I have dealt with depression for years and was very resistant to meds. A friend sent me an article which said that 5-HTP and Sam-E help with dopamine and seratonin levels. Those two supplements mixed with a good therapist have made a night and day difference. let me amend this with the disclaimer that it may not work for everyone in particular those who have severe bi-polar disorder.

About three years ago I went through depression and anxiety due to a prescription medication to clear up a toenail problem. The side effects from the medication caused loss of appetite and the nausea caused many sleepless nights. This all led to the anxiety and depression. I lost 40 pounds and thought I was crazy I did not want to take any kind of antidepressants. I worked with my doctor and through therapy and supplements which include Vitamin B12, Vitamin E, Omega 3 Fish Oil and a very good multivitamin, my brain got back on track. I don't believe prescription antidepressants are the cure all. They can cause weight gain and suicidal thoughts. I would rather heal my mind and body in a natural way.

I WAS A PRE-MED STUDENT WHEN I GOT DIAGNOSED WITH A DISEASE THAT DOCTOR'S DIDN'T HAVE ANY "MEDICINE" FOR.. SAME WITH CERTAIN CHRONIC DISEASE.. WELL I'VE THIS CHANGED MY MAJOR FROM MEDICINE TO NATUROPATHY & HAVE LEARNED THE BODY WAS MADE TO HEAL ITSELF.
THERE ARE QUACKS OUT THERE.. LIKE SCIENTOLOGOSTS!!!! BUT HOLISITIC MEDICINE DOES EXIST AND WORKS!!
PERSONAL PRESCRIPTIONS.. PHARMASEUTICALS WERE INVENTED BY THE GOV'T ETC, AS ANOTHER WAY TO MAKE MONEY. PEOPLE NEED PERSONAL PRESCRIPTIONS BC EVERYONES DIFFERENT & OUR BODIES WERE MADE TO HEAL THEMSELVES!!!!

I agree, I'm not sure where you're from but over in Britain stats say 20% of the population have been through it. Shame it's so prevalent as it tends to get stamped as the common cold of mental illnesses. Had it for 5 years, medications don't do a lot unfortunately, but can't imagine supplements doing much either (I work in a herb shop and have tried everything). should be interesting to see how Carrey gets on!

We have 2 actors who probably didn't finish school and are saying medicine is not the answer. Hmmm, sounds like Scientology considering they both hang out with the Cruises and Smiths and Jenny does a show with Leah Remini who was brought up in Scientology. Those who think it is just a religion are wrong. What other religion practices child enslavement, brainwashing, murder, and separation of families? I can't think of any other besides the CULT of Scientology. Unlike these celebrities, research and get educated.

Jim is 100% right. Depression starts with a hormone imbalance. Anti-depress pills don't work and never have. They just create more health problems. I hope it's a good book and reveals the truth about depression.

Depression should be treated with hormonal supplements, after testing is completed of course.

    47. kim says – reply to this

      47

i've dealt with depression, and i've found the best treatment are calcium and b vitamin supplements with meditation. meds for depression are serious business. i'd only go on them if i was suicidal.

    48. reality says – reply to this

      48

It's not scientology bullshit. I am not a scientologist, dont' even really know what that is about actually.
I just found out from experience. My 2 kids had reactions to their immunization needles, one ended up ADD and the other ended up with mental problems. I took them to a naturopathic medical doctor and he started them on hormonal supplements and detox for the mercury that was in the immunization shots. They are totally different kids and happy now. No more ADD and no more mental problems.
It's not about scientology, it's about really knowing what is being absorbed by your body everyday and knowing how to keep healthy.

    78. mmmmhmmm says – reply to this

      78

I'm no scientologist, recently I have had overwhelming anxiety. I went to my naturopath who diagnosed low thyroid function. I think if I had gone to my regular doctor, most likely she would have put me on psych meds which would have not addressed the underlying physical issue creating the depression. Which would create a never ending cycle.
Bottom line, not everyone needs to be treated with traditional psychiatric medication. There is no reason they can't try alternative or complimentary treatments first then try a more mainstream approach if that doesn't work. Bravo to Jim for being an informed consumer and taking his health problems seriously.

For mild forms of depression, absolutely! Low vitamin and supplement problems are often misdiagnosed as depression. Inadequate vitamin D and can lead to depressed like symptoms. Exercise is one of the best things for depression, along with eating right and getting adequate vitamins. For severe bipolar and other mental illnesses vitamin therapy is not often enough to cure a chemical imbalance in the brain.

      $CIENTOLOGY!!

I have 3 SeaOrg members in my family, and that sure sounds like he's referring to "The Purification Rundown" which they use to treat virtually every ill — with vitamins.

The Rundown is based on sweating and vitamins, especially Niacin.

      Wiki gives the clearest explanation:

" … used by the Church of $cientology as an INTRODUCTORY service.

The program is CONDEMNED by the majority of the medical profession, but supported by a small minority.

The most controversial elements of the program are its heavy use of
VITAMIN B3 (NIACIN), which can cause LIVER DAMAGE.

Niacin, in doses large enough to cause SKIN IRRITATION or FLUSHING.
$cientologists believe this is caused by "reappearing" past SUNBURNS
      or RADIATION leaving the body.

The Church of $cientology says that the rundown can IMPROVE PERSONALITY and INCREASE IQ by up to 15-30 points."

      [emphasis mine]
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purification_Rundown

      NOTE:

The lower levels of $cientology are about communication and have NOTHINGg
      to do with religion.

It's incredibly simple and logical. They're actually incredibly useful, and 99.9% of the population would benefit greatly.

BUT, this is how they suck you in. By degrees. Step-by-step.

      Beware!

Just because he believes there are other ways to ease his depression doesn't make him an extremist scientologist. As a mental health professional I assure you there is a lot of credit to these types of therapies. I've seen cases where extreme cases of bipolar have "cured" by vitamin regiments. Plus they make your hair, nails, and skin look fabulous!
