Breaking New Ground

Jack White's 'other' band, The Raconteurs, just announced that they're releasing their sophomore album…..a week from today (March 25)!

It's kinda interesting that they're doing it in 'maverick' style.

According to the band's website, they're bucking corporate norms and trying to get it EVERYWHERE (mom and pop stores, corporate stores, indie stores, online) so y'all can make up your own minds about the music.

"We wanted to explore the idea of releasing an album everywhere at once and then marketing and promoting it thereafter," they say. "The Raconteurs would rather this release not be defined by it’s first weeks sales, pre-release promotion, or by someone defining it for you before you get to hear it."

Seems like everyone is trying to do something newsworthy these days to get their music on people's radar (i.e. Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails online giveaways)!

We love it.

Rock on Jack White!

Everyone should think outside the box.

What an interesting approach. Another interesting approach for all these bands with unique ideas would be to MAKE SOME DECENT MUSIC!

"Think outside the box" - you're such a Madonna-wannabe, Mario (Perez's real name).

Why are all these biggish bands trying new ways to market their album by disguising it as if they care more about music than the money. Its obviously a way of taking a gamble on making more money. First Radiohead, with their "Free Album" although those guys probablly made more money from it than if they had released it just normally. Guarantee this album goes to number one.

Dont get me wrong The Raconteurs are a good band, and I am gonna see them in the summer, but does no one else feel like they are just taking a risk that is more than likely gonna pay off???

I don't get it….what's unusual about releasing an album to all retail outlets at once? that's as standard/textbook as it gets…..

great idea… i love these guys and their music rocks. more bands should start doing stuff like this. this corporate music world sucks and really pushes for shit music that nobody cares about but is forced to listen because of the bottom dollar. like the new madonna hip hop album sucks thus far but we're being forced to think otherwise…

Uh oh guys, watch out, Perez likes Jack White and the Raconteurs, talk about "Thinking outside the box"! Next thing you know he'll be blogging about bands that don't appear on TRL. Where the fuck is the apocalypse when you need it?

if you guys like the raconteurs, you should check out raconteur brendan benson's solo stuff (in the pic above, he is second from left.) his music is incredible and the only reason i listen to the racontuers! listen to the song "emma j" on "one mississippi," girls, it's a song about a beloved girl and it will make you cry it's so beautiful!

one juicy lyric- "there's a girl whose kiss is all i dream of….I'm the boy who prays its with me that she's in love……" oooh so good!

    27. nikki says – reply to this

      27

and YAY to kari, who obviously knows that brendan benson is the real star in this band!!!!

people complain about 'corporate' music etc. if people didn't like it, they wouldn't buy it. no one FORCES people to buy anything and don't say "oh but it's played over and over until they THINK they like it" because that is bullshit. and don't say everyone but you and all three of your friends just have a good taste in music because you don't watch t.v. and listen to mindless self indulgence as you smoke weed all weekend. i'm tired of everyone bashing popular music, and i work for an independent college radio station and even i know good music when i hear it, no matter if it's popular or not. lighten up people. the only people ruining the recording industry are the assholes who think if more than seven people like i band, they suck. get over yourselves.

    30. perez is a hypocrite says – reply to this

      30

wow, you are the biggest hypocrite EVER. weren't you the asshole who was just calling NIN and Radiohead "ZOMG so 10 years ago" the other week? now you are again singing their praises? maybe because you got yelled at for like 15 pages of comments for the lollapalooza post?? hahaha. what a fucking douchebag you are. stay the fuck out of the music business you flip flopper.

    31. me says – reply to this

      31

Too bad Radiohead's "free" giveaway didn't work and they had to release it normally.

The reason these bands are doing this is because the record industry is changing and CDs aren't selling. Artists and other people in the industry need to come up with new ways to distribute music.

    32. Caite says – reply to this

      32

Actually, Jack got REALLY upset when a radio DJ leaked the last White Stripes record early. This is probably just an idea he came up with (which I like!) to prevent the internet and radio from ruining the way a record should be heard- all at once, on a cd, with the liner notes- in the form that the artist wanted you to hear it, not just in shitty clips or mp3s. I dig it Jack!

      Uh yes post #35 "me"
Radiohead did not put out their album in stores later on because it wasn't seeling online you retard. They had already scheduled a date before even releasing their album in october. And to that other cunt that said radiohead only marketed their album by letting people pay what they wanted so that they would get more publicity and sell more records once it was in stores.GO FUCK URSELf Radiohead did not use some fuckin marketing sceme. They did it because its what they genuinely believed in. They are fuckin loaded, u think they need more money. Ah i love radiohead
