Yet another remake!
Paramount is working on a new adaptation of the Sci Fi classic Dune.
The original film, starring Sting and Kyle McLachlan, was directed by David Lynch.
The new reworking will be done by Peter Berg, a former actor.
He's got some big shoes to fill and high expectations!

a remake has already been made
Sting looks a hell of a lot better now!!
Yoga does an aging body good!
Hope Sting has a part in the remake.
Ding dang! The Sci-Fi channel launched a reasonably good remake of this already and a sequel, Children of Dune, with James McEvoy in the latter. http://imdb.com/title/tt0287839/
That's quite a cup he has on there…
the original wasn't directed by david lynch, it was directed by alan smithee. just so you know..xx
sweet. i effing love that movie. the sci-fi remake too. and all the books. this will probably make me sexually excited for another 15 minutes.
Maybe it's best not to think of it as a re-make itself. Dune is a very complex and layered novel with themes that ring more true today than they did when the book was written in 1965 (changing planetary ecology, social-political commentary, various political ploys and wars to wrestle control over a natural resource that is vital to economics and power). Other attempts have failed for various reasons such as budget restraints and studio meddling. Maybe the third times the charm. Although it may be to heavy for your average "Meet the Spartans" crowd. Not to mention the books over all view that religion is nothing but an attempt to seize control over a population by tapping into man kinds need to understand his/her place in the universe. Just think of how they reacted to "The Golden Compasss"
Re: joanna – David Lynch did direct the first version. When it bombed in theaters (to heavy and artsy for the post Star Wars crowd) they re-edited it into a nearly four hour version. Lynch wanted nothing to do with that version, as it was really, really bad, so he had his name removed and replaced with Alan Smithee. A fake name often put on movies that are so bad that the director himself wants to distance themselves from it.
Re: Fedaykin – You cant argue with that… religion control of the nation open your eyes people!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you know, they made a dune mini series already, and a children of the dune mini, and they were both pretty good- but Jesus, how many times can you get lucky with remakes?
I hope they cast Malario has Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, you know the fat guy with puss filled blisters on his face that floats around. Malario would be perfect for the roll! He's tubby, light in his loafers, and surely has some bad skin.
nooo,
david lynch said he hates the way he did that film, there was too much corporate control.
dont make david live bad memories again.
THE SPICE MUST FLOW!!!! it had to be said.
Re: joanna – Alan Smithee isn't a real person, it's a pseudonym directors use when they don't want to be associated with the movie because they think it sucked for whatever reason

oh geez here come the nerds… any ways being a nerd myself I'm glad that was a horrid movie. Being a fan of the book I still had no idea what so ever what was going on in the Sting movie…
LOL! This is old news you fucking douchebag.
I really like the original DUNE, however, a remake sounds very exciting
Wow that remake is going to suck balls! Even though Dune was made in 1984, it still stands the test of time, and that's hard when audiences are cynical and able to see through dated effects. Not so for Dune! Honestly, why bother???
I'm sure it'll be great. :p
Peter Berg is amazing, he wouldn't take this on unless it looked good.
However sci-fi sucks 9 times out of 10, so who knows.
Who's Malario?
NOOOO! I
How could anyone improve/readapt perfection? That movie is fabulous just as it is. Bastards try to mess up everything!
yyeeeaaaaahhhhh, no. it'll be a classic piece o'shit with typical cg that's SO fucking done. it's gonna suck big juicy ass-balls
The first wasn't as good as the book, and the 2nd wont come close to the first. That's how it works, why do the studios even try?
Although Dune originally flopped in theatres, it's still a very cool sci-fi movie. I remember those cool gigantic worms as good effects.
It's too early for a remake of this classic.
It has already been done again in a mini-series on sifi and I thought it was great. Susan Sarandon was excellent in it.
NO. the movie is great how it is.
Who cares the first one was BORING why remake another boring film
I wish they'd just stop, but nothing could possibly be more awful than the Sci Fi channel rendition. *gag*
my biggest fear is that such an incredible epic will be commercialized and bastardized beyond hollywood recognition. frank herbert (may he rest in peace) was a brilliant visionary. and when the merch is released i'll be the first one in line to grab my duncan idaho doll!

Agreed. It never dissappoints when I sit down for a watch. It's a classic perfected. No need to touch, really.
Perez, you do know this is a book right? Or rather a series of books. David Lynch's film was more David Lynch than Dune, and yes it was too weird and artsy to fit with the style of the book it's based on. Too much liberty. It's not bad, it's just that it hardly sets an unachieveable standard as far as a movie based on Dune goes… If the new movie is a good one, one that follows the style of the book, then we could have a series of films based on more of the books. That would be a good thing.
Re: joanna – you are the most ignorant person on the face of the earth.
HAHAHAHAHHA It looks like a skinny PEREZ HILTON!!!!!!!
this is a peter jackson job!!!!!!
Re: The Warden –
i hope they cast perez for that role! hahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
sting's version was not the original
Hooray - although why not make the other books into films?
Classic? Hardly. It was a big bomb artistically & commercially. Lynch made the movie out of contract obligation. In return, he got to make 'Blue Velvet' — which is considered a classic. Perez: hire some researchers.
How long till they remake Bladerunner and 2001 I wonder?
Loved the book, loved the movie. Still, the scope of the book is rather epic, and over such an extremely long period of time (millenia), it will be interesting to see how this director handles this duty. Their will be millions of Dunephiles watching over his shoulder……
Maybe this remake wont suk as much as the made for tv miniseries. The extended edition uncut movie is the closest they ever got to the book. I hope sting is in it again, hopefully in more clothing this time. I'm sure he's not quite the stud he once was!
OMFG I LOVE DUNE..FRank Herbert rules..
Lynch's film does need a remake
I used to have the action figure of Sting as Feyd Rautha!
:( not happy
