Academy Award-winning English Patient director Anthony Minghella died suddenly this morning. Now, details have emerged on what caused his tragic death at the far too young age of 54.
A spokesman for the director said he suffered a brain hemorrhage at 5 A.M. Tuesday morning at Charing Cross Hospital in London, where he had undergone a routine operation on his neck.
So sad.

How very sad!
How sad! My cousin had a brain aneurysm and lived, but he is not even near who he used to be. RIP to such a great talent.
I've wanted to die all night long. There is only misery and lies and deciet in this world.
that's so sad.. First??
sad
AS LONG AS IT WASN'T THE MOST COMMON DISEASE..*DRUGS*
Such talent. A lot of talented people are passing away in various different styles these days. Dang.. really sad. Please.. Patrick S. don't die!!!
that's terrible. rest in peace.
So sad, his films are great
truly very sad, he will be missed, a craftman of quality films…
and guys, please, when commenting on a sad newsstory like this..maybe you could not do your "first" thing, seems a bit out of place to turn it into a competition to be honest
This is so unbelievably sad. He was an AMAZING director. you could just see his passion for story telling through his movies. RIP Mr. Minghella, thank you for some of the best movies i have, and probably will ever see.
OMMMGG =O
awwwww =(
awwww =(
Its sad but honestly people die, if you make it past 30 congratulations.
OMG. You go into a hospital and you never come out !
Brain aneurysms are silent with usually very few symptons, you can perfectly healthy and boom the next day you are gone age doesn,t matter. He was a great director and I loved the English Patient,I ve seen it numerous times and it still makes me cry
HAVE YOUR BABIES AT HOME BECAUSE HOSPITALS ARE KILLERS!!!
THE SAME HOSPITAL KILLED 'NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN'!!!
I wonder if he maybe had a blood clot in his neck(and perhaps the surgery was to remove it?) and it travelled to his brain? I had a clot in my neck once(I took drugs to dissolve it) and that was the concern; that it would break off and dislodge in my brain,heart,or lungs and cause an embolism or a stroke,and my Godmother had an aneurysm(as did her mother) and died while talking on the phone,calling her husband telling him she wasn't feeling good and to come home right away…he rushed home to find her dead.It tends to run in families.
oh my god!! so sad! I love his films, a great director…
Re: Krissie –
Krissie it's easy to think that, but that isn't the case. Thats just what you're focusing on at the moment. Chin up.
Cold Mountain is one of my all time fave movies. so sad.
That is so weird…I just started watching Jim Henson's amazing "The Storyteller" series over the weekend which he helped write before he did "The English Patient." I hadn't even heard his name mentioned in years…
so are you gonna find a reason to make it his fault for dying like you do when people get ill??!! you're such a fat little ass-hole - quit feeding your holes!!
Cunt shouldn't of smoked heh Perez (bloat)
How sad to lose his talent much too early [why couldn't Britney have donated one of her nine lives to him?].
But I'm glad I told him how much I enjoyed his work. I sent him a book to autograph, and he returned it, signed, and with a gracious letter.
An artist in words and light, and even a gentleman. Gods bless him and his family.
what exactly would be considered a 'routine' neck operation?
