Pete's Suicide Confession!

Filed under: Pete Wentz > Mary J. Blige

In an effort to encourage students suffering from mental illness to get help, Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz has revealed that he was once so depressed he tried to kill himself.

Wentz has joined diva Mary J. Blige and Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan to front the Jed Foundation's Half Of Us campaign, which is aimed at cutting student suicide rates.

Wentz, Blige and Corgan sat for interviews, in which they detail their darkest hours. The interviews appear on MTV's college channel mtvU.

In Wentz's video he admits to being paralysed by anxiety and depression at the beginning of his career and he felt so lost and alone he attempted suicide.

"I got in my car. I remember I was listening to Jeff Buckley doing Leonard Cohen's (song) Hallelujah and sat there and took a bunch of (prescription drug) Adavan in a Best Buy (store) parking lot.

"And I called up my manager because I was, at that point, completely out of my head with Adavan. And I was talking to him and I was slurring my words, so he called my mom and my mom called me and she came and got me and we went to the hospital.

"I came home and we realised that we needed to do more than just keep (my) head above water. It's not really about keeping your head above water, it's about feeling all right and feeling safe in your own skin. It's not about keeping your head above water and barely keep going."

Hey y'all…see, if you are feeling helpless and lost, you aren't alone.

Suicide is never the answer!

Please reach out and get some help.

Re: fuckin cell phones – What the hell is wrong with you?! Just because you don't like his music or his band or whatever doesn't mean you should wish he was dead! How low do you have to be to actually wish for someone to die just because you don't like them? What is wrong with people in the world today!!! It's so ridiculous that you would ever wish somthing as horrible as death on another person! Children say things like that when they don't get their way, it's so childish!! GROW UP!!!

This is actually quite common. Some women are diagnosed with a severe form of PMS that could lead to suicidal thoughts. That's probably exactly what Ms. Wentz was suffering from. My only suggestion is that next time she or any other celebrity wants to get high on expensive perscription drugs, that they do so without calling it a "suicide attempt". I find it to be in really poor taste when I've seen people who felt so hopeless/helpless that they actually put a shotgun to their head and pulled the trigger. And they didn't do it for attention or to score EMO CRED. So please Ms. Wentz, the next time your cunt starts to bleed or you get sad cause your album goes gold instead of platinum, go get high with your friends, fuck your dead-behind-the-eyes girlfriend, or go write a decent song for the first time in your ungrateful life, but please don't have another "episode" or "accident" with your expensive pills for the sake of respecting those who HONESTLY want to stop living or wish they'd never been born at all.

P.S. What if Mommy had died in a car accident on her way to pick up her poor little baby from her Mercedes at the Best Buy? Now that would've been awful.

you're an idiot. he did this month's ago, probably before summer 07.

and his overdose was well publicised back then, before the media and the press and the fucking paparazzi gave a dam about him.

I THINK ITS REALLY MEAN FOR ALL OF U TO SAY THAT HE SHOULD HAVE REALLY KILLED HIMSELF.REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU LIKE HIM OR NOT, HE'S NEVER DONE ANYTHING TO YOU THAT SHOULD MAKE YOU WISH HE WAS DEAD OTHER THEN MAYBE ANNOY YOU (WHICH IS YOUR PERSONAL PREFERENCE) BUT THATS NOT A GOOD ENOUGH REASON TO WISH SOMEONE WAS DEAD.
IM A FAN OF PETES AND IM SADDENED BY THE FACT THAT HE WANTED TO KILL HIMSELF BUT IM GLAD THAT HE GOT THROUGH THIS.
AND I DOUBT HES DOING THIS FOR "EMO CRED"…. & INCASE U DIDNT KNOW WHAT THE DEF OF "EMO" IS….. PETES NOT EMO!!!!! SO LEARN WTF UR TALKING ABOUT BEFORE YOU TALK SHIT ABOUT PEOPLE! BCUS HALF OF YOU DONT KNOW SHIT ABOUT PETE, OR FALL OUT BOY, OR BEING "EMO"

I've known about Billy Corgan's depression for years now. His old blog confessions (which can still be found online if you look hard enough) were heart wrenching and sadly beautiful at the same time. The guy went through a lot of stuff growing up, and a lot of it is reflected in his music. He certainly helped me through hard times when I was just a kid. He's a hero and inspiration to millions of fans. Check out the interview on Half of Us. It's really good.

I always love to hear about Pete talking about his experiences with depression and anxiety. These are problems that probably the majority of world experiences at some point in their lives but due to the perceived illigitimacy of mental health, it gets ignored and suffered through. As a healthcare professional, I'd say 70% of the people I see have some sort of psychiatric issue. By talking about it, he makes it okay for other young people to get help before they get to the point he was at. Thank god for his manager and his mom being there for him to help him through or else who's haircuts would I have to copy!? ;)

This happened before Fall Out Boy's sophomore cd, and thank God for Pete's mom and manager and everyone who helped him recover.

      BY THE WAY:
Anyone who has anything even the slightest bit negative to say about Peter Wentz should not be commenting under this post. Instead you should be deciding why exactly that you are criticizing someone who is a very sweet person and has feelings and a personal life outside of some random music video you saw by his band that you consider bad enough to insult the amazing person who composed it. No one has any right to say anything insulting or offensive about this boy.

Yes it's Ativan pharm. Love the stuff, use it correctly though ;) Anyway I want to say this is great. I have bipolar disorder and am working in mental health awareness so it's great to see I'm not the only one working to *end the stigma*

you do realize that is was not pete who typed that? perez merely typed out what pete had said in an interview, so its perez who has the spelling problems. Anyways, as everyone else has already said, this is extremely old news. why dont you post something new? like the fact that Fall Out Boy is playing a concert in Antarctica? And that they're going to recieve a Guinness World record for it?
