According to a new Gallup poll, Hillary Clinton has passed ahead of Barack Obama by an impressive 7 points — 49 to 42 percent.

This is the widest gap we've seen in polls between the two Dem presidential nominee wannabees in weeks.

The poll was conducted before Barack's acclaimed race relations speech on Monday.

But, according to Gallup's Jeff Jones, "the initial indications are that the speech has not halted Clinton's gaining momentum as she led by a similar margin in Tuesday night's polling as compared to Monday night's polling."

On another note, looks like John McCain is benefitting from the loooooong and tense Democratic nomination process. Grrrrrrr.

A new Gallup poll also showed McCain leading both Democrats. McCain holds a 4 point lead over Obama and 3 point lead over Clinton.

Such polls are meaningless when one candidate is being attacked. Such polls only tell us that people are watching TV in which there is a salient against another candidate–a "gotcha" if you like. Hillary and McCain have plenty of skeletons in their closets that are going to be pulled out at the right time.

A President must lead and educate americans. Obama's speech showed this capacity, a function of th modern presidency that we have not seen in the past decade. President Bush can not comprehend that leaders must teach. President Clinton got it after he left office. Senator Obama knows this before he even takes an oath. I support Obama because he is WILLING to address tough issues by bringing people together.

Clinton has done nothing less to wedge people apart.

As Obama said in his speech, we have a chance to take a stand, or continue to allow our problems — racial or otherwise — to be weighed down by partisan rhetoric and the politics of "I'm right."

So I will be taking a stand this year. And trust me, a lot of African Americans and other progressive voters will be doing the same.

WASHINGTON - A battle over Hillary Rodham Clinton's record as first lady broke out on two fronts Thursday, as a federal judge stepped into a dispute over the handling of still-unreleased Clinton phone logs and Barack Obama's campaign challenged her record on trade.

The latest twist in the debate over her time in the White House came in the courtroom of U.S. District Judge James Robertson, who forced the National Archives to undergo questioning about why it won't release 20,000 pages of Clinton's old phone logs.

Not enough resources, a lawyer representing the National Archives told the judge.
