Ethan Hawke sure wasn't filled with Irish cheer on St. Patrick's Day!
New York's Atlantic Theater was hosting a 24-Hour plays event and Hawke surprised the audience by taking the stage.
With acoustic guitar in hand he announced, "Someone I know wrote this song while shooting a movie in Paris during his divorce." Gasp, clutch! A ditty about Uma!
His song included lyrics about "not caring if [he] ever saw New York again," "the lawyers," and — most telling — "my wife." Uma!!! "My wife hates me," he sang, adding something about how she would call him a prick, how he longed to send for his children, tralalala singing stuff. We were intoxicated, both with beverages and with memories of Dead Poets Society. And then! "My wife is a big fat beast," he sang. We gasped, along with the rest of the audience. He called Uma fat! In public! Sheepishly, Hawke broke his musicianly stride: "Yeah, I was very upset at the time."
Wasn't Ethan's rumored infidelity the reason why they divorced?????

Aww, that's too bad. I just adore Ethan Hawke. I saw Reality Bites when I was debating a career change in the 90's and it just hit home. And Before Sunrise & Before Sunset are brilliant. Love him. He obviously had issues in his marriage, but who doesn't. He shouldn't have called his wife names in public, that's kind of dumb, but who hasn't gotten drunk and said something they regretted? Only difference is if you or I said it, no one would care. And no, he wasn't banging the nanny he's with now when his marriage busted up, it was some pointy nosed chick waitress-model wannabe from Montreal that he was boinking. I think they're both pretty awful. I agree - she's kind of fat. And she's never, ever seemed attractive to me in looks or personality. Just my opinion. I never thought he was that attractive either. I'm sure Uma could write a nice ditty about the fun time he had behind his hotel in 1997, while filming a movie in Texas. Little did he know that about four set security cops, and several crew members were in their vehicles, when he got all down and dirty with some unknown "lady" in the alley. This went on for thirty minutes, in a variety of positions and locations. Of course, he was coked out during most of the shoot anyway. It was before they married. Uma stopped by during the shoot, and they shopped antiques together. How special. (And, no, it wasn't Uma in the alley.)
