She was 12 years old.
The news is especially sad for animal-lover Winfrey, whose Golden Retriever, Gracie, died less than a year ago after choking on a ball.

My cat died of kidney failure this year too, and my heart goes out to Oprah.
So sad…I lost my dog a couple years ago at 10 with kidney failure. It sucks!! He was such a great dog and I know how she is feeling. Very saddd.

Well, i am proud Oprah walked away from the Rev Wright years ago- and I am sorry she lost her beloved dog. I never thought I'd say I was proud of something oprah did or that i was sorry for her. She really loved her dog, just as i love my pets. And 12 years of friendship and companionship with an animal makes them very close to you. So Oprah, despite all the things I say about you, I am so sorry you have lost your Sophie.

It's a pretty universal experience. No one says you have to like people in the public eye. You don't have to agree with everything they say/do either. To slam them in a forum where they can't respond and use it as an opportunity to discriminatory feelings based on race, body type, lifestyle, etc., you have toward those more successful and influential than you, well…that takes a "special" sort of person, I think.
