AM and FM radio are free. If you can't afford XM or Sirius, don't get it. If you can't afford cable or HBO or Showtime, don't get it. If you can't afford that cup of coffee in the morning, don't do it….or you could get a second job or an education to get a better job. Everyone stop your crying. Life is not free.

  34. meg says – reply to this
    34

I have XM and love it. I have listened to Sirius and hate it. Why Sirius is all name dropping and crap like that. XM has what I like most, the music!

I just don't see this being a good thing. For the consumer or for those who work in the radio feild!

  37. DirkDiggler says – reply to this
    37

Consumers will benefit because these companies will offer their services a la carte, consumers will have all the major sports on one radio system. Not to mention that the companies will be better off financially so they won't have to lay people off to cut costs.

It's great for everyone. Better programing, more choices for subscribers of both services. Hopefully once these two great companies join forces, my Sirius satelite signal will be stronger. I work in the boonies and my signal often cuts out when I pull in the parking lot of my job. The Feds finally do something that benefits the common (wo)man. Yay!

Thank gawd this is finally happening. I've left XM 3 years ago because I couldn't stand the programming (with the exception of a very few stations) and have been happier with Sirius since then. Now this is happening and I can once again listen to my favourite college football team, my 90's on 9, & Lucy on 54. Life will be great again!

  43. RLM says – reply to this
    43

this is terrible news - who says yay for corporate conglomerates?

the consumer is going to have less choice and will therefore suffer higher prices….

    bad bad bad

    44

Finally! Now we can pick the channels we want to hear. We've had both in the past (currently have Sirius) and there are channels on both that we really like. I think this is great and maybe now our stock that we own in both companies will finally go up instead of down when its combined.

I'm not thrilled about this because I smell a price hike coming. Secondly, who gives a crap about the FCC? It's just another way for the government to pretend to know what it's doing.

I have and LOVE Sirius. I have listened to XM, and other than the Willie Nelson channel, it sucks!

I'm just waiting to find out that Rupert Murdoch owns both of them……………….

  48. Rom says – reply to this
    48

This isnt about screwing the consumer Perez, dont be so synical. Its just smart business for two struggling business plans. XM is great, way better then radio, & its not badly priced about 19.00 for 3 months.

  49. Dipshit says – reply to this
    49

    Perez you never get it!

This is a GOOD thing! This is exactly what puts the corp congloms out of business. This is going to KILL ClearChannel. Radio stations across the country are laying off thousands of people everywhere because there is NO revenue in FM.

This merger will give us subscribers more, a la carte programming, better reception, and many more choices. I know people who work at both companies and everyone is REALLY excited about this. My friends at FM however are not so happy, they know this is the death of radio.

Besides most of these DJ's hear of their stuff online anyway so they KNOW they have that competition out there. They wont charge more, it costs them less now without having to compete for audiences and have to bid for on-air personalities.

    Im in radio. Trust me.

Clear Channel is the Monopoly not this merger… Let people pay for better radio!! Perez we need your support on this.. It's the right thing to do. You can speak freely on Sirius and XM Satellite Radio… Just think.. 10 years ago the internet was being attacked by these same people.. Satellite radio lets people listen without FCC censorship… Please support this!

Howard Rules! The merger is awesome news for anyone who is a fan of Stern and the other amazing programming that Sirius has to offer to its subscribers! The BEST $13.95 I spend each month, and the price will now likely go down which is even better! Fuck Ryan Seacrest, Corola, and any other shithead on "Free FM"

  56. Erin says – reply to this
    56

Boy, Perez, nothing like telling the world how you feel without knowing shit. Not letting this merger go through would definitely put both companies out of business, as they both are operating with huge losses from operations. And besides, if the consumer doesn't want satellite radio, they don't have to buy it. Yet somehow, mergers that have proven to hurt the consumer immensely have gone through in less than 2 months–ExxonMobil, JPMorgan Chase, etc. Seen gas prices lately? Dumb shit.

  57. retarded loser moron(RLM) says – reply to this

    75

The FCC won't hold this up. The greater hurdle was the Department of Justice. The National Association of Broadcasters through millions and millions of dollars at lobbying against the merger and tonight I say to them: Fuck you! You bastards find it perfectly acceptable for Clear Channel and GE and Jefferson Pilot and other conglomerates to dominate the airwaves with the bullshit they put out + an ad naseum number of commercials. As a Sirius subscriber long before they were even talking to Howard Stern, I can say he's a very smart guy and a real treat to listen to and fun! And I love some of the XM programming so look forward to a merger of both. Mel K. will run the company and he's been a great bulldog for Sirius as CEO. The option will be keep your programming the way it is now and keep your price the same, or opt in a la carte to the other station's programming for approximately $4 per month. For those of you who love terrestrial radio because it's free, LMAO! I have in a rental car I have to drive for a few days and am reminded of the dark days of radio! THIS ROCKS!!

How very cute of you Perez. Copied it off of some news site, probably feeling all proud of yourself with people complimenting you on your supposed intelligence, when you probably don't even know what the FCC stands for. I worked for Sirius, & it should actually be better for the consumer. You'll get to pick & choose which channels you want from both XM & Sirius, effectively lowering the price for people who don't listen to 99% of the channels…and more choice for those who want more..lol, just a tidbit of info
